- In this video I will show you step by step how to install and upgrade your iMac RAM. It's very easy to do and your Apple warranty will not be affected.
In this video I upgrade the Apple iMac 27 inch Core i7 Mid 2011 from 8GB to 24GB of RAM. This is performed using a Crucial Technology Memory.
Crucial Technology also gave some insight into how memory upgrades can effect Mac performance.
While synthetic benchmarks are a great way to measure certain aspects, they don't always capture what the desired outcome of a memory upgrade is, being increased system performance and a better user experience. In actual use, higher RAM with 64-bit operating systems allows more, and larger, applications to be run entirely from RAM at an access latency of under 20ns, whereas accessing data on the hard drive can have access latencies in excess of 4 million nano-seconds. The result being a much better user experience, snappier UI and overall increased productivity.

Thanks for the video, I have 4 slots that only have 2gb on each so I've bought 2x8Gb, question - should I leave 2 of the 2Gb in place making the total 20gb or just have the 2x8Gb? Thanks
Hi, you can use all 4 slots and have 20 Gb in total
Brilliant, thank you.
I have a mid-2011 27-inch monitor, 4GB of RAM, and 16GB of RAM bought from Amazon, so I've got 20GB total.
Great 👍
I'm glad to see this up-close.
Would the same ram fit a 21.5 inch 2011 iMac?
Hi, yes it's the same.
