  • My own take on a lovely little song. (without the George Formby style). From lockdown 2020. The Charango ( from Bolivia) has a body traditionally made from an armadillo shell, but happily these days they are mainly hand carved from a solid block of wood. (like a dugout canoe!) with a pine soundboard and hardwood fingerboard. They still however, retain the armadillo shape, and more upmarket ones exhibit fine armadillo style woodcarving. My instrument is made of orangewood by Alba of La Paz. The headstock is almost as big as the body! It is a close relative of the Canarian Timple.
