Somehting also worth mentioning is how a lot of Ringo's adolescence was spent sick and infirmed. He was isolated and away from family and friends for a very long time as a boy, so I imagine that had something to do with his outlook on life and how he captures it with his photography.
Thanks a lot for your video! Ringo once said: When we came back from Japan, each of us had a Pentax camera. Later on he used the Nikon F as you showed. I love this playing around with the fisheye lens and not shying away from shooting people very candidly. Also Linda McCartney benefited from being very close to the group.
Hey Tatiana, Jose from Puerto Rico. Wonderful journey you took us. I moved to Puerto Rico in 1969 when they were at their peak. It's a great thing to see RIngo's perspective through his photography. Not everyone has a privilege like that: a front row seat view to one of the most iconic rock bands of the past century.
So true, his was a very privileged outlook and it was so cool to go through the book and make this video to share with everyone! Thank you for watching Jose and much love to Puerto Rico!
I like your notion of images/photographs embodying unquantifiable time like Salvador Dali's clocks. I guess that is why I love b+w photography, the timing cannot be measured, only inferred. Where it is the story in the image which is important where that story is the photographer's. Always enjoy how succinct your vblogs are. Thank you.
The Beatles all used Pentaxes (my dad bought a Spotmatic new in 66; I'm pretty sure it was the model Ringo used in A Hard Days Night), and they were given Nikon Fs as gifts when they visited Japan.
@@TatianaHopper yes! I think that was in the I Want to Hold Your Hand promo vid. I always thought it was a paid Pentax promo, because the big camera was quite random otherwise.
I really love this series (of famous musician photographers and their photos). Thank you so much for these. I've had Ringo's photobook saved for later in my amazon shopping cart for months. I'm gonna buy it one of these days but not this month. Thanks and peace! :)
Hi Tatiana!! Great to see you again!! I really enjoyed this one...wasn't long back that I discovered Ringo was an avid photographer!! I too thought.."Wow" talk about an unique view of the world and history being a Beatle. Only 4x people knew what that was like, and only 2 left that still do. I gotta get out and take more pics of friends. As I get older...well, I've lost one that I knew since I was 11 yrs old, so, need to keep sharing and documenting the time with those still here on the plane with me. :) Have a GREAT day and looking forward to seeing you again soon here on RUclips! Thank you so much for stopping by and what a take from this video, yes go and document and maybe create some fond memories! Glad you enjoyed the video, thank you so much for watching!
Wonderful video Tatiana, I never knew of Ringo's photographic works neither it looks like I'll be adding another photography book to my library soon. 🙂❤
Great Rich, its a good book and has a lot more than just photos it functions like an archive I would say photos, personal notes and what not! cheers for watching :)
I don’t know if you have made a video about David Sylvian yet, a pop musician who reached the spotlight in the 80’s, and through the years he became a photographer of exquisite taste who have made collaborations, books and exhibitions in important galleries of Europe and Japan.
✌️😎✌️ RUclips doesn't have a method for comments and photos... shame about that... I'm a lifelong photographer... I take pictures of.. literally... everything... and I write.. they go together... I came away with the idea that a photograph should tell a story... so I have been practicing... I just moved this year's efforts onto a memory chip... 10,000 pictures... most of them from this year when you have something to say, they really really help.. ✌️ so do these little emoticons ❤️ ✌️❤️ 🌟 ❤️ 🌟 thanks 💍 Ringo for all the years of music for saying Peace and Love for teaching me how to play the drums for being nice thanks Sir
Another great celebrity photographer documentary. How to believe that Ringo Star was such a fantastic photographer. However, as you said in your documentary being famous as the Beatles were, must have held him back creativity. If he tried to capture a deserted street in Paris or Frankfurt early on a Sunday morning, no doubt a fifty to hundred people showed up 20 or 30 minutes later!
(Can one resist saying, "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!"?). The paradox occurs to me that, the more one succeeds in capturing a specific time and place, the more it becomes timeless and universal. Thanks once again!
He has a good eye. Has anyone documented the cameras the Fab Four used? There's also an epic album cover of Cream showing Eric with two cameras around his neck, one is visible unfortunately the other is not.
I wonder what Ringo's ideas were; in thier early movies. I wonder what scenes he helped develop. What camera angles he lined up. Probly; alot of them! I like the film that shows his Beatle Boot driving the Bass Drum; in the movie Hard Day's Night. I wish I could find a pair of those boots. Pointy toes, suede, and to the zipper up the side. My big brother had a pair of those bad ass boots. They made him look real tough.
I recently saw where Paul McCartney found some negatives which he thought were lost. The photographs are now being shown in a London gallery. Are you aware of this? Will you be doing a video on his photography?
You usually transition into your sponsor's ads smoothly, but this segue was phenomenally clever and unexpected. Bravisima. OK. Love Ringo's photography and how you describe the way his photos touched you and inspired you and I can see why, but I also find myself wondering if many of them are considered special because of their subject matter and who created the images. Yes, I get what you mean about memory and the introspection photos such as his inspire, even if they are way different from what I make, yet I also wonder if some of his images are not just considered "good" because an expert said so. This happens to me with some work by renowned photographers, BTW, such as Eggleston, Winogrand, Avedon, Helmut Newton, & Ron Galella. Yes, some of their work is genius, but much of it also makes me wonder why it is held in high regard as opposed to what others do that is similar yet dismissed or completely overlooked. Even with Maier's "groundbreaking" photography, as it was heralded a while back, there were some great photos, yes, but lots of it was kinda "meh." Actually, I found Ivashintsova's photos that you shared more compelling. Though, perhaps part of the reason why is due to how the photos were developed/processed. I still wonder how Maeir and Ivashintsova would have developed their images, what the resulting photos would have been like. And so for me, that is the bottom line: It is all so subjective, idiosyncratic. Yet, poring over such photographers work (and taking in observations about their work like what you share here) and understanding why it speaks (or not) to me is a learning experience, as you stated here and, often, elsewhere. It helps me ground my own work in the broader photography landscape. Thank you.
Fantastic comment Fernando, totally see where you're coming from and that's why its all an exercise of subjectivity, to open our eyes, some things might be for us and some inevitably won't. Glad you enjoy the videos and these exercises, thank you for watching!
All of the Beatles were given free Pentax cameras. Pentax used it as a marketing campaign because most likely they would be photographed using the cameras.
He really does like rings that's why apparently he chose the name ringo (and also because he belonged to a band called the texans and he needed a name that suited the style of the band) - at least this is according to what I read :)
its sad that you didn't mentioned Dezo Hoffman, first photographer that took Beatles pictures before they become famous. Also he was their only photographer and he teach them how to shoot. You can see him on the left on this picture ruclips.net/video/8HvpSYfRRmM/видео.html.
Somehting also worth mentioning is how a lot of Ringo's adolescence was spent sick and infirmed. He was isolated and away from family and friends for a very long time as a boy, so I imagine that had something to do with his outlook on life and how he captures it with his photography.
True! Thank you for pointing it out Brennan and for watching
Also his decolored eyebrow is because of those illness
I love the Beatles and I love Ringo's drumming. I now love his photography.
Fantastic Keith 👏
Would you love it if you did not know who is the author?
Nice find! Never knew Ringo was such an avid photographer- and a good one too! Some of those portraits of his band mates are excellent.
Thank you Gerald!
My favorite sequence in the movie "A Hard Day's Night" is when Ringo wanders off with his camera.
This is by far the most entertaining and interesting kind of music trivia out there, I always love a more personal look on band members
He is a great photographer. The compositions are quite strong.
Thanks a lot for your video! Ringo once said: When we came back from Japan, each of us had a Pentax camera. Later on he used the Nikon F as you showed. Very true! Thank you for watching Klaus!
the portrait of paul mccartney in france with the cigarette and the smoke is just sublime. wonderful video as always!
I loved that one, and in the book is really quite a thing to see in person, thank you for watching!
I always knew Ringo was a keen photographer.. but never seen his work …this is definitely interesting.. thanks for showing this..

The Beatles all used Pentaxes (my dad bought a Spotmatic new in 66; I'm pretty sure it was the model Ringo used in A Hard Days Night), and they were given Nikon Fs as gifts when they visited Japan.
I found a photo of them with a gigantic Beatax look it up online, it was actually a prop made for them by Pentax (according to what I read)
@@TatianaHopper yes! I think that was in the I Want to Hold Your Hand promo vid. I always thought it was a paid Pentax promo, because the big camera was quite random otherwise.
Paul was holding his wife's camera. You should do a video on Linda McCartney now. She did many famous photographs of bands.
I've already done it a few months back 😉

As someone who owns it; it’s really worth it! A nice look into The Beatles years and of course Ringos life! A really nice personal look:)
You really outdid yourself on this one. Such a great video. I had no idea that Ringo Starr was that prolific of a photographer.
Neither did I only found out when researching for this video and after a viewer pointed that out to me :)

Watching this was a lot of fun! ;-) Very nice work, Tatiana! 👍
Thank you Walt! 🙌
Great video! Fun to watch. Just wanted add that in 5:04 it should have said late 60's. As they were barely famous in the late 50's. Cheers

3:38 fyi a few years ago or so they tracked down the teens in this photo and they recreated it!
That was fun! Now you have to at least mention unsung Beatle Astrid Kirchherr their friend, stylist and first photographer !
Let me write that down on my list!
@@TatianaHopper The movie "Backbeat" is uber cool.

In the movie Hard Days Night you see Ringo with a camera a lot especially when he's off "parading" in the movie
Such a sensational video, greetings from brazil
I have that book I use my 2016 Ringo and All-Star Band ticket stub as a marker. I should get back (no pun intended) to it.
Loved the Dali reference so eloquently put.

I know Ringo was documenting MArc Bolan and T.rex life and concerts in the 1970's and make movie about that named "Born to Boogie"
I had no idea there was also a photographer by the name of Ringo Starr

Mike McCartney's photographs are worth checking out.

Considering Ringo was a movie actor, he should’ve also been a great movie director
Honestly they are no more than snapshots. The significance of the photos come from who is in them. The Beatles.
