Finally an intelligent review... Most reviewers are speed-talking without taking a breath :)... and jumping around, creating more confusion than helping. Your review helped me greatly, many thanks!
4:3? so your telling me that you're buying a 500 dollar tablet with a super amoled display just to read some books that you can buy a 150 dollar low end tablet? The reason why you want a beautiful display is for the purpose of media consumption. On top of a smaller tablet and it has the same ppi? manufacturer always say stuff that doesn't really make sense. Tab S is the clear winner, lower price, large display, better aspect ratio.

Jeremy Jackson same, the screen and aspect ratio is awesome. I love the design too. I hope samsung go back to the old aspect ratio and release a Tab S3 that looks pretty much the same as a Tab S 10.5 but has metal frame and a much faster cpu and gpu. Because the Tab S is definitely slow by today's standards. If not then ipad for me next year.
I've had mine since Christmas 2014 and it's great. I was looking at this video because I recently dropped it flat on the floor and basically splintered the screen (but the screen protector held everything together. This video helped me decide to just buy another Tab S 10.5 instead of getting the S2. The S2 has a faster processor and 32GB flash compared to the Tab S having 16GB flash, but that's about it. I actually use the infrared controller on my bedroom and living room entertainment systems. I enjoy the longer battery life and I don't have to tell you how great it is watching Netflix, RUclips or digital movies/TV. Beautiful picture quality in 16:9. I only wish there was a 32GB version of the Tab S because just by adding apps over the years, I'm running too low on memory occasionally to install or update apps (even with most of them installed to the microSD card.) I'm not worried about the speed. I don't really play racing games or shooters on the table so lagging isn't really an issue. So I'll be grabbing another Tab S from Amazon and it looks like the pricing is below $200.00. Update: I found a Tab S with 32GB flash on ebay. So essentially, I'll be getting the same features as the Tab S (plus the IR blaster.) That makes me happy.
I cannot express enough how perfect this video was for comparing these 2 tablets. I was all set to 'upgrade' my Tab S 10.5 to the Tab S2 9.7 after reading a couple of reviews, but this video made it perfectly clear that I would probably be wasting my money. So thanks for helping!
Thanks for the large comparsion to show the small differences. But at the screen-ratios you seem to brought a little tension in. You showed a 16:9 movie on the 16:12 S2 that brings 1/4 black frames. But at the 16:10 S1 you showed a 16:10 movie, that looks perfect, but a 16:9 movie would also create some frame.
Great review! Please note: Speakers! The S2 is less suitable for movies. The speakers are both on the bottom. So no stereo sound in landscape. The S has them on both sides when watching a movie. Also the headphone jack on the S2 is right there where you would hold the tablet for watching a movie, wheres the S has the jack in a clear area. The textured plastic is nicer to hold. Yes the S2 feels more 'premium' but in the end the S is less likely to slip out of your hands. Yes, the S2 has a more portrait orientation. However in portrait mode the screen is less then a cm wider! So there is not much advantage in portraitmode for the S2. In portrait mode the S has just a longer/higher screen and loses just a tiny bit on the width. The colors on the S2 are a bit more blue. The S has a warmer display. This might differ from unit to unit and might change with aging of the oled. The S2 has a 'premium' aluminium frame. When reading in the sun you will be constantly reminded that you have a premium metal device, because the sun will reflect badly in you eyes via the corner of the frame. The SD card not changable without the pin! On the S you can open de slot with your nail. On the S2 you need to bring the pin. Why would you care? Well, transfer via usb to the sd card is kind of slow... So as the reviewer says, the S2 is not alway a better tablet, just a different one.
All they had to do was release the original Tab S with a faster cpu in to stop on the lag, they could have changed the design slightly and left it at that.
I noticed in this video that at minute marker 2:19 when you are comparing the aspect ratio on both tables, you get confused and name both tablets as Galaxy S2. One should be S2 and the other should be Galaxy S. Same mistake happened when you compared the texture on the back of both tablets in previous frames of the video.
Great review and exactly what I was looking for. I have never owned a tablet and was trying to decide between the S and the S2. This video made my decision easy. I wanted a tablet with 32 gigs of ram and I found the S2 for less money than I could find the S. I plan on using it for reading and internet use and not watching movies so the S2 was the obvious choice. Thank you.
this is such a helpful video!! thank you for the comparison. the wide-screen black bars on the s2 really sold me on the s. I think I'm picking the s up today- super excited!
www.staples.com Apparantly has it "available only in-store" but I just got off the phone with a man who works there and he said no Staples has it in stock.. right now I just texted someone from Kijiji who's apparently selling a new one. I spent so long deciding which one and this one's perfect, UGH!
That's a shame. the tab s really is the better tablet. I think they are available on amazon, last time I checked anyways... good luck, hope you find one!
Derek Hammersley I saw some on amazon for $800+ So ridiculous! The price is unjustifiable especially since the tab s3 is coming out soon 😐 guess I'll just have to wait for s3 and hope for the best. Thanks though!
When samsung leads we get the awesome tab s 10.5. The screen is amazing and the 16:10 ratio is great for movies and it is PERFECT for comics. When samsung follows we get an ipad clone. The 4:3 ratio basically means you are watching movies on an 8 inch screen.
Tab S is the winner. The 16:10 aspect ratio of the Tab S screen alone is the reason to NOT get the Tab S2. If Samsung had been smart, they would have kept the same screen size. The decision to go to the 4:3 aspect ratio killed any notion I had to upgrade.
+Dan K For you. For me it's the reason to get it. And you got it right the first time, the Tab S is actually 16:10 (16:9 is so horrible only Microsoft dared to use it on their tablets... they got wiser later, of course)
I adore my Tab S and don't want anything new. The 10.5 screen is the best! It is 3 years old and until 3 weeks ago has performed beautifully. One day, it started boot looping on start-up...and it has not stopped. I have taken it to Geek Squad, sent it to Geek Squad City, talked to Samsung technicians...every one wants upwards of $200 to fix it. Sakitech...do you have any ideas for me to try? I can tell by this great video you know your Samsungs inside and out!! Thank you!
Thank you. Ive been looking for a good comparison video. and I found it. again, thank you. Im gonna buy the ( S ) to save some money since they are both similar, as a first time buyer. :)
people are complaining about the 4:3 aspect ratio, I think it's exactly what makes the s2 better than the s, for me personally. All of you talk about watching films or videos or whatever in 16:9. This is not what I use my tablet for, there's something called a television screen, or even a laptop/computer to do that. A tablet is not exactly something you can fit in your pocket, plus your phone will most likely have a 16:9 aspect ratio. The main use I use my tablet is to write notes, specifically for my studies. This works better with the 4:3 aspect ratio, since this is as if I am writing half an a4 piece of paper. The 4:3 aspect ratio gives the tablet a better shape, in my opinion. This means that both in portrait and landscape, the tablet can be used comfortable since 4:3 and 3:4 are not as different as 16:9 and 9:16. Another thing is that when the s2 is in landscape mode and multitasking, this means that each screen will have a lovely 3:2 aspect ratio (half of 3:4), rather than the awkward jump from 9:16 to 9:8. I would never even want to watch a film on my tablet. Even if I wanted to watch some RUclips videos in 16:9, I would leave the video playing without putting it on fullscreen, because I usually read comments while watching the video since most the videos I'd watch would be short anyway.

As a newbie to purchasing a tablet, I found this video very helpful. Question - does not having the flash for the video/camera make a big difference in taking videos or photos?
When you were resizing the app windows and reducing them to floating bubbles, is that new in the S2? Because I can't do that with my Tab S. I can only run two windows side by side and resize the width. If I try to drag my finger from the top corner like you did, all it does is either pull the notification bar down or pull out the multi-window manager from the side (or both).
Your review was so very informative, even though I recently purchased a refurbished Tab S it was great to hear and see the comparison. My biggest reason for buying the Tab S...I wanted an IR blaster for my Chromecast. My Note 5 doesn't have one and after reading all the specs for the S2 I found out it does not have an IR blaster either. Also, I wanted a Super Amoled screen as well as a larger screen (for my aging eyes) than my current 7" tablet or Note 5. I'm very glad I chose the Tab S over the S2.
Im super happy with my Tab S...i dont think i need an upgrade any time soon...i would like samsung to come out with a tab this size with both options of windows and android...with a stylus pen and bluetooth mouse and keyboard that can do office work...that would be the bomb
I just ordered the Tab S in bronze from the HH Gregg website. They apparently have an exclusive on the bronze, while Best Buy has the white. The white one is 399 at Best buy, the bronze one is 429 at HHGregg. I signed up for email updates on the hhgregg website and they sent me a 10 percent off coupon, so I bought the price down to 386.95 (plus tax) which is cheaper than the white one at Bestbuy. I think that I will prefer the default landscape orientation on a tablet with such a large screen, rather than portrait.
Review is a bit confusing at a couple times - you mixed up the models when comparing at 1:55. You state "tab S" both times when comparing the back cover feels. Then again at 2:18 you state "Tab S2" both times when comparing the aspect ratios. But good review otherwise. Maybe you can edit and add pop-up correction notes on screen...
this video is realy world class! I like it a lot because you took every aspect in a very objective way! congrats I have de tab s and works awesome!! keep on with the work!!
What a great review! Thank you for the time you spent making this. Although as a first time buyer I still dont know which to go with! (Very insignificatn but i think you may have made a small mistake by calling them both S2 around 2:26)
@saki - Thank you for your review on the 2 tabs. Great job! I was really thinking about purchasing the Tab S 10.5 but to be honest I like the new tab S2 also. So going from a 8" Lenovo tab to one of the Samsung tabs is a "Big" upgrade for me. Keep up the great work for the video reviews you're doing and again, thank you!
What a great review. Very precise and informative. Can someone make a full review of Samsung Table S2 versus Apple Ipad Air 2 please? The videos available are just too short to make sense (most of them less than 3 minutes).
Just a few minor corrections, not that it matters at this point but the original Tab S DOES come in 32gb as well as a gold model. It was a best buy exclusive when I purchased it last November.
Touch, feel on first-time hand holding is most important. Most iSheep avoid this to hide their Apple fanboy biases. So thank you for mentioning this. Watching this on my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, so it would have been good to know how it compared. The processors here are slow? I had hoped to do some multi window video editing, so GPU performance is important. Pity you did not test GPU. RUclips is 16:9? Watching your video on my Samsung here wasted some screen space as well. Is this here also 16:10? Comparison tables would have been useful.
Thanks for the most comprehensive review. I need this one to handwrite a book that can be stored as a digitized ready to edit document. Please suggest me an app specifically for this purpose! Thanks.
I disagree about reading magazines. Comics and magazines have an aspect ratio very close to the 16:10 of the tab s. With magazines it is no big deal, but for comics part of the experience is seeing the whole layout of each page. The tab s is the best comic reader ever made.
You have given de dimensions of the tabs wich is good, what also interest me is de screensize in mm, can you also measure only the visible screensize without the border? I am trying to figure out wich how big a comic actually is on each screen. Maybe it's beter to read on a 4:3 tablet but maybe the comic is actually bigger on the tab S. I can't tell. Thanks for measuring.
I was thinking on getting the new Amazon Fire 10.1 since I have Prime which comes with movies, music and books, (have the HDX8.9 now), also have the Nexus 7 (2014) for my Play Store apps. Then when I search the web I bump in to the Tab s 10 and Tab S2 they both look amazing. Now it got me thinking I should go with the Tab but now I don't know if I should get the Tab S 10 or S2. Any advice?
Hello, I wanna buy a Tab S(2?) for my dad, he's reading a lot but I'm not sure about the choice. Is the Tab S2 the best choice for reading? And I know he prefers black/dark colored devices, I didn't find a dark version of the Tab S on the sites which I usually use to buy my high tech devices. Does it exist? Beside the white and bronze versions? Thanks.
+Kenshinigami Tap s 2 will be good for reading ( 4:3), the price is $399.99 today at bestbuy for black friday. S2 is little lighter weight easier for older people . your dad will be enjoy it.
+Kenshinigami Better OS better apps amazing screen quality 2 apps multitasking better in every way possible we can contact if you want i can answer any question i am an ipad air 2 owner
Hi Sakitech, Thinking of getting a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (first time user of tab, been loyal to ipad), to sync with my 40" Samsung 4K tv, meaning can i watch movies from my tab and watch it in bigget screen on tv wirelessly like bluetooth? thanks.
yeah..you can...buy a google chromecast and put it in hdmi of the tv...you can wirelessly cast your RUclips videos, google play movies and many more apps videos directly on your tv...with chromecast app you can cast your whole screen...it requires an wifi internet connection though...and no double data required..your phone merely acts as remote control when you are casting...only your chromecast will consume the data when you are casting...
I have the tabS 10.5 and plan to stay with it. I also have friends who have both have s 8.4 and 10.5 and just got the new tab s2 - 9.7. I don't have a smaller version of either and while I would probably prefer the 16 to 9 screen ratio, I think there are definite benefits in the tab s2 over-the-top tab s in the smaller format. My conclusion - If you're buying a new tablet or replacing, the 8.0 inch tab s2 is a better choice over the tab S 8.4, but in a larger model I think the tab S 10.5 is the better version.
Hi friends, my SM-T805 can't read SIM and microSD card in 5.0.1 but in 4.4.2 i have no problems. Please tell me what i must to do, step by step. thanks!
As a first time buyer, I am tempted to opt for the tab s instead of the s2. From a price point in the UK, it is fairly similar. I agree that such a brilliant screen should be exploited for Media use like movie watching, rather than book reading etc, which is why the s 16:9 aspect ratio appeals to me more. What I am wondering (mainly to lucky owners of both tablets), is how the processing speed and the battery of the tab s2 compares to the S? Is it worth gettin the s2 or S?
thought of upgrading from Tab S to Tab S2......but it seems not much difference.... Ok, i will then patiently wait for Tab S3 (if there is any) Thanks for thge excellant review
Yeah dude no need to update this time around. personally I prefer the widescreen display of the original tab s. And the specs are almost exactly the same, some aspects are even a little worse on the s2 lol
perhaps it will never receive android marshmallow...because samsung update update support is very bad..they dont update their mid range devices, they stop updates for their high end devices after 1-2 years from release...they somehow manage to update their high end phones but the update is rolled out ages after google releases new version of android.. they have bad update support because they dont want to spend too much money to develop new update for their each model their policy is that: stop the updates,so that people will buy new samsung phones for the latest android version...
for the 4:3 ratio, it means every video there will be the black space on top and bottom? or it only happens on RUclips video. Anyone can advise. thankyou! 😊
I'll be getting tab s 10.5, that sounds like an awesome tablet. One problem though. I use samsung note 4. Great phablet, but it OVERHEATS!! Does tab S 10.5 have that problem?
+oudom sok. it depends on the use the tablet would have. if you like to see movies, tab s; but if you like to read and use office, tab s2. PD. both tablet are made for games, some game need 16:10 and other need 4:3
I actually saw a secondhand tab s 10.5 for 300 dollars at a pawn shop. I might grab a second one at that price. They are pretty hard to get and that price is a steal.
On top of a smaller tablet and it has the same ppi? manufacturer always say stuff that doesn't really make sense. well said, could by a nook if I wanted 4:3. tab s is for media
+2007Suprasport Yep. Totally agree with you! Well said.
geoff :)
second that. Samsung heading down the Apple path, phones included.
Studat definitely agree, I guess apple with its cheaper tech with premium price equals a larger or higher net profit influence samsung.
was waiting for this type of comparison as a Tab S owner, Thanks
This review is so clear and so perfect!!!, Congrats!!!, Also your english is great, very clear for non english speakers.
I've had my S 10.5 for about a year and a half and i absolutely love it.
Agreed
i have one also..so nice..

same here but still tab s expensive. .

I am using S3 and miss the sharper screen of original S tablet. It is a big difference.

Crisp, in-depth and well articulated review! Good job, now I've finally made up my mind to go for the Tab S.

Really good comparison and more than fair and balanced conclusions.
Which of them the tab s and the S2 make make normal call's please reply
What kind of s pen can you use on the s2 for drawing
@sakitech Can you run the Ipad air 2 on geekbench and compare it with the tab s2?
this video is realy world class! I like it a lot because you took every aspect in a very objective way! congrats I have de tab s and works awesome!! keep on with the work!!
Excellent, thorough review. Best I've seen.
Most useful video I've watched so far. Thank you!
is there any way of getting rid off black bars on tab s2
What a great review! Thank you for the time you spent making this. Although as a first time buyer I still dont know which to go with! (Very insignificatn but i think you may have made a small mistake by calling them both S2 around 2:26)
what about Games ?? Sir why you didn"t comment about performance during Game playing
The videos available are just too short to make sense (most of them less than 3 minutes).
once again totally outstanding comparsion!
Fantastic review...very detailed...answered all concerns....
does samsung not make tab s anymore?
I can't find it anywhere...
I only see tab s2
ebay
Excellent reviews-great delivery-many thanks-peace from London. Micky x
You are very good at this. I'm waiting for the S3 and I hear it's coming out any day now.
Me too😃just want to see it
I am too but i have a feeling they are going to stick with the 4:3 ratio and if they do i will probably buy the tab s.
Comparison tables would have been useful.
i think you messed up when talking about the aspect ratios. you say s2 has 16:10
Thank you so much for this review, professional and straight forward. Keep it up!
What an awesome review. Subbed
thanks for all your Hard work!
Great comparison, this was really helpful to help me decide.
Thanks for the most comprehensive review. I need this one to handwrite a book that can be stored as a digitized ready to edit document. Please suggest me an app specifically for this purpose! Thanks.
Where do I find this dock for s2?
I disagree about reading magazines. Comics and magazines have an aspect ratio very close to the 16:10 of the tab s. With magazines it is no big deal, but for comics part of the experience is seeing the whole layout of each page. The tab s is the best comic reader ever made.
Outstanding comparison and video, thanks!!
why didn't you do that 8.4 instead of 10.5?
Thank you for the thorough review -- just what I was looking for to help me decide!
Hi which is better between tab pro 10.1 and the tab s 10.5. I would mostly be using it for watching movies, youtube videos and browsing the web.
The Tab S has the better screen.
Great comparison. Thanks man, really helpful to me.
Any advice?
This is good and legit review! I like your diction and high quality video, Cheers!
This video actually helped me decide! Thanks!
This is a good review, has been very useful, Thanks a lot.
Banana Pie Thanks for the answer, already bought it a month ago and he's enjoying it so far :)
+Kenshinigami Should have bought ipad air 2
Clementine Why? I'm about to get a Tab S2 for myself.
+Kenshinigami Better OS better apps amazing screen quality 2 apps multitasking better in every way possible we can contact if you want i can answer any question i am an ipad air 2 owner
Hi Sakitech,
Thinking of getting a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (first time user of tab, been loyal to ipad), to sync with my 40" Samsung 4K tv, meaning can i watch movies from my tab and watch it in bigget screen on tv wirelessly like bluetooth? thanks.
yeah..you can...buy a google chromecast and put it in hdmi of the tv...you can wirelessly cast your RUclips videos, google play movies and many more apps videos directly on your tv...with chromecast app you can cast your whole screen...it requires an wifi internet connection though...and no double data required..your phone merely acts as remote control when you are casting...only your chromecast will consume the data when you are casting...
Please tell me what i must to do, step by step. thanks!
what are the buttons at the behind used for????
MR BoombastiC. They are for a Samsung case that snaps onto it. It's very nice.
douchebaggins7 oh really!! i use a tab s so i just wanted to know
2:17 So they both became the Tab S2?
please do ipad air 2 vs tab s2 comparison
Great in depth comparison.
Is it worth gettin the s2 or S?
how can change my Google play store to American?
thought of upgrading from Tab S to Tab S2......but it seems not much difference....
Ok, i will then patiently wait for Tab S3 (if there is any)
Thanks for thge excellant review
Yeah dude no need to update this time around. personally I prefer the widescreen display of the original tab s. And the specs are almost exactly the same, some aspects are even a little worse on the s2 lol
Hey if I buy the tab S , will it recieve newer software updates like marshmallow
perhaps it will never receive android marshmallow...because samsung update update support is very bad..they dont update their mid range devices, they stop updates for their high end devices after 1-2 years from release...they somehow manage to update their high end phones but the update is rolled out ages after google releases new version of android..
they have bad update support because they dont want to spend too much money to develop new update for their each model
their policy is that: stop the updates,so that people will buy new samsung phones for the latest android version...
Thank you so much, your knowledge between the 2 helped me out!!!
$250 for tab s 32g brand new.. Think that's a good deal?
Yes for this product its a verry good deal
Great review. Well done.
Can someone make a video comparing the tab S and the tab s4?
great video and helped me to decide which one to buy as a first tablet buyer......s is the winner!
in the benchmark results it shows the s2 with octacore and the s with quad core.
Great video,is very helpful thanks continue like that.
very nice review i love it. good job
Thank you so much for the best and clear explanations .
for the 4:3 ratio, it means every video there will be the black space on top and bottom? or it only happens on RUclips video. Anyone can advise. thankyou! 😊
Yes, it mean every videos have black weird thing.
Best Value, Is the Tab S, with the larger OLED scrren which is the future of the best tvs and awesome blacks and colors.
Great video. Thanks! Now you got me thinking. which one should I get. I have nexus 7(2013). Time for update
+Dr_Gallifrey Thanks. That's what I'm leaning towards. I mainly want to get it to watch movies. tab s2 ratio is not the best for that.
+Dr_Gallifrey Right on! I'll get the tab s 10.5! How's the battery on it? I mean not the size, but the every day use? Does it last a while?
+Haleem Khan ok
thanks man
I'll be getting tab s 10.5, that sounds like an awesome tablet. One problem though. I use samsung note 4. Great phablet, but it OVERHEATS!! Does tab S 10.5 have that problem?
Ok thanks bro
what is the best for gaming gta sanandreas, asphalt 8, ...?
+COBbassmaster i can play all the game on the tab S? because i very like this 10.5 inch
+COBbassmaster The screen size of 9.7" for the Tab S2 is better for games as only movies run in 16:9 widescreen usually.
In my country both device are the same price. which one should i buy?
+oudom sok. it depends on the use the tablet would have. if you like to see movies, tab s; but if you like to read and use office, tab s2.
PD. both tablet are made for games, some game need 16:10 and other need 4:3
I actually saw a secondhand tab s 10.5 for 300 dollars at a pawn shop. I might grab a second one at that price. They are pretty hard to get and that price is a steal.
They dont sell the Tab S 10.5" anymore? :(
Check Amazon.
Check Amazon.
Ebay.. Got mine for $189.99 shipped. Rooted and with Kodi!!
Can the S2 make calls
