You explained it so well. Im no mechanic I bought a 71 Chevy C10 with a 307, I converted 2 B to 4B. The way you showed how to hook up vacuum lines helped and improve my vehicle. Thank you.
This is awesome! I have a '77 P30 and we spent the better part of the day trying to figure out how the vacuum went. I'm glad someone finally explained it all. You're the man!!!
thank you brother.I have a 73 cheyenne super 10 that someone slapped a 350 in a 454s place and i could not for the life of me figure out where they went my truck runs horribly until i hooked this up. i appreciate you!
This is useful information clearly and simply detailed. Well done! A perfectly working PVC is important to the engines health. The air filter housing looks great. Simple things like that make a difference. I bought a 1985 C10 last week and am going through all the vacuum lines removing most along with the disconnected or defective air pollution control items.
Your video os still helping people. It just helped me tremendously! Thanks!!! NO ONE could tell or help me with my vacuum lines. 1971 Chevy been sitting for months due to carburetor vacuum lines connected improperly. Even rebuilt carburetor thinking that was the problem. Thanks again!
FYI - the charcoal canister . . . when the engine has been running and then stops (taking a normal trip somewhere) the the fuel in the carburetor will expand/evaporate and the evaporates vapor gets pushed down to the canister. Then, when you start the engine, those vapors are pulled back up and get burned by the running engine. This is an environmental thing and is not a requirement for the engine to run.
This video came out when I was 12, I love old school set ups. This information is very helpful to learn about engines and how they work. Thanks og, hope your well and still wrenchin!
Thank you for your clear instructions on the nightmare vacuum lines. I have a 1972 c 10 that needs attention, again thank you for this simple video! Makes me happier than a kitten in a creamery!
everyone pulls that off cause they run so much better without that crap on there.. that extra vacuum to the charcoal canister is the power robber.. i hooked all that up one time and the car got slower.. same set up on a 72 monte carlo.. the emissions systems on those years was bogus crap... literally .. the charcoal canister is the vent to your gas tank..
Thank you for this very helpful video, I just installed a new Edelbrock 600 cfm on my 1973 Elco and was having a hard time how to understand the vacuum system on the 350. Now I need to change my brake booster vacuum line to the manifold port. My Elco is also a Cali girl, stock 350, working on getting rid of the smog crap.
Dude you’re THE man. Inherited my papaws truck and little things like this where there’s NO info out there helps so much. My grandpa being who he is had most of the line to the charcoal canister plugged off lol. I’m reworking everything and want it put together right. Thank you.
Thanks i just got a carb similar i did not know there was a vacuum line behind the choke i could adjust my carb now i know why im gonna check to see if i got that line
I don’t have a Cheyenne but I still gonna give it a like cus like u said u can’t find this info. Usually forums n users point to a “diagram” but some of us learn Bette from seeing the actual thing
I just bought a brand new goodwrench 350sbc for my 69’ Chevy c10. Everything all brand new from hoses, to carb, manifold, I mean every single thing new lol. Year later the damn thing just stopped staying running I turn engine over and as soon as I let go of the gas pedal it’ll die! So now I’m going to use your video and hopefully figure out what the heck went wrong! Thanks for posting
You helped a lot. Nobody breaks it down like that. I tried re routing vacuum on my classic i6 200 (ford) after I rebuilt the head. You just made my life easy, subscribing now!
Enjoyed your video. I just finished doing same job on my '72 C10 with 350 I've owned for 30 years now. Noticed you didn't change the hose running from the charcoal canister to the front lower vent pipe to tank. I noticed in the Chevy service manual (section8-12 , figure 16) that there is a small plastic "restrictor" with a small hole in it 1 .25 " in line from the canister end. I cut into my old hose and there it was so I shoved it down in my new hose. Not really sure what it does other than restrict flow. I would not have discovered this without having seen the illustration in the factory service manual. Hope this helps anyone changing these hoses and wanting to keep the system stock. I could have easily thrown my old hose away without knowing there was anything up inside it. Also I installed new filter (made from a dust mask) in bottom of the charcoal canister. I removed battery and tray to get to it. Thanks for letting me comment, love my old truck. Thanks.
Hi, my friend, congratulations on the pair of videos, which are of great help to us mechanics, I have put and replaced the hoses and also the thermostat of the carburetor but I have not managed to get my truck in the morning to turn it on by itself , I have to be accelerating until it warms up, I hope you can help me and once more happiness for your videos
Thanks. I have a 1969 Chevy C-20 with a 350 and a Rochester. Still mostly all original, air pump and all! Maybe I should post a video of it. I really like the cable linkage you have.
Yup, it helped me! ...but you should still care about emissions EVEN if you're not legally required to! Older cars have a wildly disproportionate effect on overall air quality, and it'd be the proper thing to make sure all emissions systems work. That's actually why I'm here: my dad's 69 Chevy is totally missing the heat riser and THERMAC vacuum hoses (he says he had it removed years ago because some mechanic thought it was causing problems), and I want to be a good citizen and pollute as little as possible :)
Thank you for the video and the information it will be a big help. My engine is newer (1983) and bit different in configuration but I learned more which I can use.
glad i came across this video -i was looking to hook up a 3 line charcoal can to my 77 c20 cheyenne as they didnt come with them because emissons only applied to 1/2 tons and cars in 1977 - ive ponderd using a vacumm switch etc but tee-ing into the pvc line looks like the way to do it
I appreciate it i needed info on the Canister and pvc I figured i would have to T them off my edelbrock carb on the center port but now i have correct info that i must I appreciate. 75 Monte 400SBC 64cc skip white aluminum Heads Mild cam Th350
FYI - the air filter snout valve -- is not about smog It is about helping a cold engine run better by drawing warmer air from an air tube between the exhaust manifold and the snout when the ending is cold. The warmer air helps the gasoline vaporize for better combustion. As the engine warms and the choke opens, the snout close off the "warm air" inlet and will begin taking air from the engine compartment rather than from the tube bringing air from around the exhaust manifold. If you have not tube connected between the snout and the exhaust manifold (like the engine in the video) then there is no need for any vacuum lines. This feature is usually negligible help to the engine except for sub freezing temperatures.
Holy shit! I’m glad I found your video. Been stuck not knowing where my lines go after rebuilding engine.. it’s been sitting.. now I’m gonna hook it all up. Thanks!
You are the most helpful person ever. Trying do the the lines on my 350 out of a 75 blazer and its a nightmare or tubes and wires right now. Any chance you have a video for doing the wiring to do a engine stand fireing?
awesome tutorial but i would recommend doing what i did and just cut all that crap off except for the vacuum advance. I took that charcoal can off my f100 and all that vacuum crap off because its not needed. But this is a very awesome tutorial for someone that wants that stuff. :) Very well done.
Fine your chevy 71 chevy truck has three vaccum lines but my Suburban has 5 vaccum lines now o got Re-Arrange that mess for my modified 383 stroker with cam and quadrajet or dump q-jet for Holley
I'm helped as well. I need vacuum tees, I'll get them asap. I have a 76 ElCamino Engine and need that Vacuum Diagram. Any Suggestions on how to connect on a Rochester Carburetor?? Thanks for the informative video.
This just helped next week ima make sure I’m set up like this can you make perfect video of adjusting your carburetor and is there a way I can adjust my carburetor if I wanted to race?
So i have the exact same truck same model same year and all that, i did my gas lines by watching this video thank you by the way. But what i need to know is how to put that same choke back on i beleive that is why my truck will die in the middle of driving it, i have checked my gas lines, just replaced the fuel pump, i just can not figure out how to put that choke back on. if you could please post a video and send me the link. thank you
I do have a crazy question. What size Is the fuel line fitting? I now have hose and trying to put on a remanned qjet, but I don't have steel lines anymore, can you help me out what size fitting I need?
Sir I have watched all the videos that you have posted about the Quadrajets. I am a Novice Mechanic. I am working on a 86 Chevy Monte Carlo. On the Quadrajet that I have I am referring to the Vacuum breaker. Even after the engine reachs operating temp. The Vacuum breaker is not releasing Vacuum to allow the Secondaries to open at all. Do you have some helpful advice for me so I may fix this problem?
this is a huge help. I am working on a 75 c10 , and this is similar enough to explain quite a bit. Can you explain what the pieces inside the air breather are supposed to do though? It seems good to know that you dismiss the parts so easily, but what should those 2 vacuum lines accomplish?
Thank you very much, 7 years later after this video was posted. And it's still the most helpful one I've found so far
You explained it so well.

8 years later and Still the best explained in RUclips, thank you and to those 74 technicians upload your video instead
Hard to find help like this thanks. No body dose older vehicles thanks.
Swapped my carb on my 305 and could never quite figure out the vacuum lines, definitely had a leak, now I understand a lot better! great video!
Thank you so much! My 1971 is running so smooth now, I couldn't figure out how they went since the previous owner didn't know what he was doing!
This is useful information clearly and simply detailed. Well done!

Excellent, clear, precise & straight to the point description of only the "necessary" vacuum lines! Ty!!!
yes sir I'm with the guy below me as well. your video found on accident and I really needed this info and I'm glad I ran across it!
Straight to the point. Thanks for this short and simple yet very informative video

Thanks for posting this. I'm doing a simple build for my boy. It's been a while since I've done this and I needed a simple refreshing.
A great help to us across the pond too. Thanks for taking the time to share this.

I have an almost identical setup on my newly acquired 1970 C20. Thanks for the help, you just saved me a few hours of internet thrashing.
Thanks i just got a carb similar i did not know there was a vacuum line behind the choke i could adjust my carb now i know why im gonna check to see if i got that line
I found this video by accident but I'm wowed by the great information. Thank you for your knowledge and experience. Be blessed
Thanks for the description on the vacuum diagram. Helped me out.
Thank you! I had the hardest time finding where to put the loose small hose (behind the auto choke).

Thanks. I have a 1969 Chevy C-20 with a 350 and a Rochester. Still mostly all original, air pump and all! Maybe I should post a video of it.
I really like the cable linkage you have.
Awesome. Thank you for the upload. Its still helping people :)
I love your truck....so much!

Exactly the video I was looking for. Same truck motor and carb. THANK YOU 🙏
Great video, thank you! Trying to get my 71 GMC going.
Thank you Sir...I have a 73 Chevy Nova L6 and I was worried about changing my air filter housing

Fantastic, found this on accident. Bookmarked.
Off course is a lot help because no one shows how connected those vacuum lines thanks so much

It is about helping a cold engine run better by drawing warmer air from an air tube between the exhaust manifold and the snout when the ending is cold.

thanks for this, restoring a 78 suburban
