The Germans, who love driving, don't seem to care: What did Autobild, Germany's top car mag, say about Prius? They said it was "expremely impressive...the complex hybrid powertrain works perfectly" in a story about Germany's most reliable cars. Speaking of which, when a car runs for 400,000 easily, as many taxi drivers will attest, it's not a joke in my book.

Toyota did knock it out of the park with this Prius; they transformed one of the dowdiest looking cars on the road to one of the absolute best looking, especially in this silver. The only thing that would be of concern to me if I were to buy this would be the sight lines and the ease of entry/exit, which is why a thorough test drive is needed before making the purchase decision (which is almost impossible these days since no dealers where I live have popular Toyota hybrids like the Prius in stock and many customers put themselves on long waiting lists and buy it without a test drive!).

My Gen 3 Prius has a spare tire and unfortunately have had to use it on several occasions. Once was on a trip at night in a remote area with tire damange. Took me 10 minutes to get back on the road with the family. I would have been stranded for hours without a spare and would have had an expensive tow. I would have had far more downtime the next day trying to source a replacement. I just cant buy a car without a spare for myself, more less my wife and kids, without a spare. 3:34 - I gather the point of the tiny rear motor was to apply just tiny bit of “oomph” exactly when and where it’s needed for acceleration: The car will of course rear back onto its rear wheels when you “put down the pedal,” and at that time and place, even a tiny bit of extra horsepower can improve acceleration more than we’d think. It’s far from a night-and-day increase, but it’s substantial.

Happened to luck into putting the first 1200 miles on a 2023 Prius from a Budget Rent-a-Car, if you can believe it. Severely tempting in so many ways. But, I'm of similar dimensions, and yeah, I get in and out, but it was a grunt every time. And that was in great weather... bad weather, ick. And, yeah, the rear visibility is painful.
I'm a near-hypermile driver anyway, we had beautiful spring weather and were doing a lot of 50 MPH 2-lane sightseeing, so my 1200 mile real-world average was 62.1 MPG! Yet the handful of times I needed to give her the beans, she totally had them. Got two parking lot checkout and chats, impressive in a part of the country where Teslas don't turn heads at all any more.
If you could put this build quality and all the rest into the just-a-tiny-bit-higher/bigger practicality of a Kia Niro, it'd be perfect.

A dealer here is asking $2k over MSRP in Prius and Prime. But I don’t need a car since my 2017 Lexus ES350 just hits 39k miles. I will wait a couple of years for its price to go back to MSRP or wait for the 2025 Lexus ES hybrid. Just bought my wife a 2024 Lexus NX350H at MSRP and no add ons, I remember for the last year or so every dealer were asking $3-5k markup, I refuse to play that game.

The only issue with the Prius. They didn’t think it through on the front bumper. Nobody wants a big rectangle block on the front of there vehicle. With more and more sticker front plates coming along you can’t even blame that.

Its almost time for 2024 versions to come out and ive yet to see any dealers within 100 miles selling these. Youd think maybe its because people on a waitlist are getting them first but where are these guys? I havent seen any of these on the road yet.

These Japanese JVIN cars take longer to import and are slightly higher quality than the north American built Toyota cars.
In Japan, they take care of panel gaps and more quality control. Look at the car care nut channel on RUclips. He has a Prius that is under 6 years old with 341,000 miles with original brakes!! Insane.

Good luck finding tires as the size isn't standard in America. Also know toyotas expected goal was to sell 35,000 this year and sales numbers thus far aren't even getting there so don't expect these tires to become common, they won't. Toyota sells that many rav4 in a single month. This will vary depending on where you live but where i am I checked around and only place i could find a tire for it was 45 minutes away at a dealership, dealerships closer to me didn't have it. Now imagine blowing a tire out of town... yeah, this could and honestly very rightfully should be a deal breaker for many people.

This or elantra hybrid, and why?
I put 1500 miles on an elantra hybrid..averaged 50mpg and I wasn't easy on it. Mostly highway 60-90mph. Fully loaded 30k msrp..only thing I didn't like is the sedan feel after having suvs for a couple years now. I put 450 miles on a maverick hybrid and got 34mpg at speeds of 75-109 mostly around 85 and flogging it the whole time. Would love to pick one of those up, but it's nearly impossible to find one at or below msrp and I'm not paying over msrp for anything.

the "perfect" car to overprice. all dealerships in the area are adding $10,000 to the price. It's a shame that it's still happening even after the chip shortage. Really nothing but a game with these businesses trying to profit from their customers.

Gas here in NW Oregon is well over $4 a gallon for regular and climbing. I would elect to get the 2023 Prius model LE this delivers the highest MPG than all the other more expensive sub models of the Prius. MPG is going to be the most important issue soon with all vehicles as petroleum is going to be more expensive.
It is beyond stupid for the U.S. major car companies that could not design a vehicle such as a Prius when they had over 2 decades to do so, and now we have to buy a car made in Japan. GM blew it when they discontinued the Volt in 2019. They could have expanded that line and had hybrid and hybrid plug in vehicles approaching and breaking the 60 MPG barrier.
