Excellent video. For those of you replacing the condenser fan motor, I would suggest: a) wipe the fan blade with something like Clorox/Lysol wipes. Unbalanced fan blade makes sounds and may prematurely damage the motor b) while the condenser shroud is off, use a condenser coil brush and vacuum to clean the coil as much as you can. That means inside and outside! I know the video was focused on replacing the fan motor, but considering how dirty that condenser coil was, they should have at least mentioned cleaning it. good luck!
hey kevin, are you saying I may need to only clean the fan blades to get rid of the noise? mine just started making noise. I'm not sure if it's the fan or the motor?
I have a very similar refrigerator and been so frustrated even finding a repair place that could repair it. My freezer stopped freezing anything but water and I couldn't figure out why. My dad came over, took a quick look, we opened the back and voila, this was the issue. Had to reopen it to take pictures so i knew which motor to get. Can't wait for the replacement motor to arrive.
Nice job, well done. Looked like if you were repairing your own fridge you could possibly cut the bottom sheet metal with two cuts about an inch or so and bend down metal to make taking out easier. Bend up when done and cover with aluminum tape. Never done this repair but was looking to see what I may run into when I check on a fridge later today.
Typically the clip goes facing away from the motor it is attached to. Depending on the manufacturer they maybe using the fan to pull air over the condenser or push air over the condenser. Pushing air is the most common situation.
Thank you for your videos. I have a problem with the fan on the back not working and the lights on the door not working. I cleaned the dust around that area, I was gentle, but not sure if that caused an issue. The defrost thermostat was not working as there was snow build up inside the freezer. I tried to troubleshoot from the back panel and not sure if I did something then. Please help me.
Light: Probably the switch relay at the door, typically just pry out and replace. Defrost heater probably has a short/broken connection, replace with new.
Great question, most manufactures push cool air over the hot condenser, this is done to help not only cooling but move any amount of dust or lint out of the coils. Lint and dust build up significantly reduce the efficiency of heat transfer, cleaner the condenser the better the system works.
Hello I hope someone can help, my condenser fan wasn’t working so I replaced it with a brand new one, when I plugged it it worked fine, fridge was nice and cold, however when the compressor and condenser fan stop when they should, Only the compressor restarts, the condenser fan doesn’t start, if I unplug the fan from the PCB board and reconnect it it starts to work again until it stops, please someone help my fridge is a whirlpool side by side.
No need to pull the whole plastic shroud assembly, first just take off the fan blade, then undo the two screws holding the motor onto the bracket and remove the fan motor.
That is exactly what I did because mine couldn't be taken out. I've tried every twist and angle combination it wouldn't come out. I couldn't bend either because the assembly is made of metal.
I did mine this way just today thanks to your comment. I tired removing the whole assembly like shown in the video but was unable to do so. It has only been four hours since I finished the job, but it is already running better than before.
It's worse than you think. I just opened my GE to clean the coils. The only way to thoroughly clean them is to remove the fan assembly. The assembly isn't too difficult to remove, but as can the seen in the video, you risk rupturing the copper lines when you do so.

Thanks for the video. Could you please let me know how do I know I should change the condenser fan motor? Thanks
Thank you... You helped me changed my GE Profile fan. Now I have to get a good control board.
Thank you for this. Im planning on removing the fan and its bracket/housing so I can clean inside the condenser.
Very clear instructional video how to replace. Thanks!
Excellent! A little tricky! Thanks a lot!
I have 3 wires to my cond. fan motor yellow ,blue and white wires how can I wire it up for a fan for something diff. ???? AC OR DC
Well, my name is Vagner, I'm from Brazil, I would like to know HOW TO REPLACE CONDENSER SIDE BY SIDE ge?
looked impossible , but you did it . nice . why are there 4 wires on the motor ?

I took one of these exact fans out and it was pain in the ass. I'm probably gonna do what you just suggested when I put it back in
Ur video is edited time wise or straight?
👍🏽👍🏽
Thx !
They design refrigerators like this to make it difficult for the homeowner to fix their own. What a world we are living in.
I cleaned the fan blades but forgot how it goes back on the motor
How does the fan go on with the metal clip towards a compressor or towards the condenser

I replaced my fan but it still isn’t running. Any ideas??

Great vid. Exactly my model and I was wondering how to remove that plastic assembly. Thanks

What an idiotic design. A part that's almost 100% going to fail at some point yet it can't just easily slip in/out.
seriously i just finished replacing mine and omg!
I should give an F for the engineering whoever design this. Some other models are very easy to access for repair.
Your never clean condenser coil looks like it needs cleaning
Not really easy to remove
Why in the heck are you not using a drill driver?
What a disgusting, pathetic design...
😂😂

I have seen some videos on fan replacement, which are great. But I would like them to show the fan working at the end of the videos.
