I know as the title says chicken and dumplings. That’s all it should be….. but I tried to make it once, and I ended up using gnocchi as the dumplings which worked out really awesome by the way! Minus the price tag. And then I was compelled to put in carrots and celery……. it was so so so good! But I’m a Yankee, so next time I make it, I will stick with the southern traditional way :) ty Merry CHRISTmas🎄
Why does everyone think what they are cooking is southern. First off no self respecting southerner does this. Dumplings are made with corn meal. Chicken pastry is made with flour and not cutinto squares but strips and rolled out thin. Unless you were born and raised in the south and learned how to cook with mom and granny., then it ain't Southern cooking, so stop calling that mess your making Southern. Just burns my butter. Bless your heart.
@cb-qh4zf If you’d taken a few minutes to look at my site or learn anything about me, you’d see that I’m as Southern as they come. I was born in a tiny town in South Alabama and have lived my entire life here. My family has been here for generations. I learned to cook from my mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. So, by your self-professed guidelines, that makes me pretty dang Southern. As for the recipe, not everyone makes it the same way. In fact, in my entire 43 years, I have NEVER heard of anyone making dumplings with cornmeal. However, one trait of Southerners you missed is kindness. So pulling from my roots, I’ll be kind and not say your version isn’t Southern - just different. Maybe next time before you blast a stranger on the internet who’s just trying to do something he loves and provide for his family, you’ll take a deep breath or do a little research first.

Yum! Easy recipe. I am going to try using half AP flour/Selfrising flour.😊
Pureeing the cooked vegetables from your vegetable stock adds flavor, I don't throw those out of the dish!
Who else has heard it called chicken slick?
Just water and flour for the dumplings?
@@connierodriguez8281 Yep!
I also add a little salt
Grandma added chicken broth to the flour for more chickeny dumplings.
❤ I can't wait to make . Cold weather and chicken and dumplings makes for a beautiful meal.
wouldn’t chicken broth make it too salty or does it just enhance the flavor?
I’ve never had that issue with it being too salty, but it does add some great flavor.
