Hau isn't really a rival or an obstacle. Hau is just, well, Hau. A rival is supposed to be an obstacle for you. Gladion is more of a rival then Hau, but that doesn't mean I didn't like Hau. Hau was pretty great.
Emmanuel Webster Hau considers you as his rival which in turn makes him one of your rival. May/Brendon shouldn't be a rival by your logic since they are easy to beat. Like almost as easy as Hau.
I dont agree as otherwise Berry, Dawn, and even Blue wouldn't be considered rivals as their goals were never to get in your way. A rival should be a trainer you consistantly battle to test your abilities and push you to be better.
The gen 2 remakes was probably the game I played the most of and have the most memories of playing as a kid.. I'd always pick Totodile, and I absolutely loved Silver as the games rival.. He was such a good rival! Cocky and rude, he made me feel awesome whenever I kicked his ass with my Feraligatr :D Nothing will beat him as my favourite rival, I'm sure. Funny story, back when I played HG & SS as a kid, I nicknamed Silver "Red" because of his hair.. It wasn't until a year ago that I discovered his name is actually Silver.. I thought it was Red this entire time.. xD

I can relate to having Blue show up randomly, and it's always right after you've battled who knows how many trainers. It's like "dude, why? All my Pokémon have, like 25 hp and no PP left. Now you decide to show up?" XD Silver was my favorite, but then once Gladion came along… Silver became my second favorite. I loved Silver because he was a cool jerk (and because of the Pokémon Adventures Manga) as well as his backstory. Gladion is almost like a 2.0 version of Silver. What I liked about Gladion was that not only is he cool, but he's also integrated into the story very well; I loved it when I found out he was related to Lillie and Lusamine, and that he stole Type: Null. When I was little I would constantly play my Pokémon White copy. It would get to the point to where my relatives got annoyed when I would Talk about pokemon. Every time I would choose Oshawot. That game was my absolute favorite pokemon game I've ever played. Although it may just be nostalgia.

My number one favorite rival is Gladion. In fact, whenever I see one of these videos, I always check to see if they have Gladion for number one, or at least on the list. If not, then I'm seriously disappointed. Of course, everybody has their own opinions, but still.
Wally is still my number one from the moment I had the victory road fight in ORAS, the expression on his face that changes as the theme starts and the determination in his words really does show some of the greatest growth of a Pokemon rival. Whereas Blue, Silver, and Gladion represent growth through arrogance, defiance, and despair, Wally grows through perseverance and determination alone. His theme is also the best the whole series, no question.
For my number one it would have to be between gladion and N. both are extremely deep characters and probably the most well thought out characters in the game

Back when I just wished to win due to my life at the time and owning Lucario just brings back memories of when I first treasured Lucario and things started to improve. The great thing about SuMo was that you got one of each rival: Friendly and 'Mean'. Both are great characters that I love. I like to think Hau and even Lillie and your character kind of help soften Gladion up a bit.

Well, in Pokémon sun and moon, technically Team skull leader Guzma is sort of a rival in the game because he battles you a lot, and he even battles you on the beach after he disbanded team skull, and then he even battles you in the battle tree too, so, in my opinion, Guzma is one of the rivals to your character in the game.

I liked how they hyped up Wally. From the dexnav, they slowly build him up on the news “New Trainer just took down the 6th Gym” & when you see him after defeating Groudon. Also, if you check the namings, they hype him up by showing he already beat the gym before you even got there. I always take exp share when I replay so it’s personally a challenge for me when I face him. Very fun battle (even though I’m still 1-2 levels ahead of him.)
Silver and Gladion are practically the same when you think about it. Both look down at you at first, both stole their first Pokemon (well, Gladion did it out of pity, Silver just wanted a starter), are somehow related to the villainous Team of the game, have an evil parent that they hold a grudge against, have similar Pokemon in their teams (Crobat and Sneasel/Weavile) and throughout the game they both develop some sort of bond with the player. Gladion was basically a re-written Silver.
I thought I would like Gladion more than I did. Don't get me wrong, he's hilariously edgy and I absolutely loved him (one of my favorite rivals) but I thought he deserved more development than he got.

Barry's strategies are completely ridiculous. I always remember the "Make sure all your attacks hit! Avoid enemy attacks for sure!". I mean, yeah, that'd be an unbeatable strategy, if you could do it, but you can't. Barry's overconfidence and ridiculous strategies are actually why I like him. He's my favorite rival.
I think Wally could've been better if we had more battles and interactions with him in ORAS. Only facing him twice in the main story was kind of disappointing to me. Battling him a couple more times to see his progress would have made ORAS better in my opinion. But the Mega Gallade was a great way to show how far he came. Gladion is good because of his connections with Lillie, and the pain he carries from Lusamine's abusive relationship that she forced him into, unlike Silver, who just up and left. He cares for his sister, and wants to keep her and type:null safe and sound, he cares for his pokemon, relatives, and tries to do something!
Hugh was a god. You didn’t hate him, he was salty at the beginning, but he helps you a lot. He ends up respecting you, and he doesn’t cry. Shauna wasn’t really your rival. More like your friend. May/Brendan were terrible and bland. Blue was bland too, but he actually does stuff. Bianca and Cheren were absolutely terrible. I hated them. Bianca had some character developement, but she was boring. Hau was pretty good. He’s your friend, and he has personality. He has character Developement. Blue wasn’t the best. I hated Wally. My favorite Rival is Hugh, he's serious, he's technically a Friendly Rival, but he's more than a Friendly Rival, he wants to get his Sister's Purrloin so bad that he straight up punched a Team Plasma member and threatened him to get his sister's Purrloin back and he frickin hates Team Plasma so much, but he has one of the best Backstory of any rivals (other than being your childhood friend, but it's not appealing), he wants us to be strong and has a great team and his Battle Theme hits hard.. there's more to tell how great Hugh is, but it's unlimited..and he's also the reason why Black2 and White2 are my favorite Pokemon games.
Bianca's Anime counterpart was Obnoxious as HELL! Also, I completely forgot Hau existed throughout my entire Sun and Moon/Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon playthrough.

Hugh was a god. You didn’t hate him, he was salty at the beginning, but he helps you a lot. He ends up respecting you, and he doesn’t cry. Shauna wasn’t really your rival. More like your friend. May/Brendan were terrible and bland. Blue was bland too, but he actually does stuff. Bianca and Cheren were absolutely terrible. I hated them. Bianca had some character developement, but she was boring. Hau was pretty good. He’s your friend, and he has personality. He has character Developement. Blue wasn’t the best.
I hated Wally. He’s weak, then he’s strong. Very little development. N was awesome and unique. Silver was great. My Top 5(worst to best)

I had a feeling it would be Gladion as your number one when you introduced Silver.
My favorite Rival is Hugh, he's serious, he's technically a Friendly Rival, but he's more than a Friendly Rival, he wants to get his Sister's Purrloin so bad that he straight up punched a Team Plasma member and threatened him to get his sister's Purrloin back and he frickin hates Team Plasma so much, but he has one of the best Backstory of any rivals (other than being your childhood friend, but it's not appealing), he wants us to be strong and has a great team and his Battle Theme hits hard.. there's more to tell how great Hugh is, but it's unlimited..and he's also the reason why Black2 and White2 are my favorite Pokemon games.
The reason why Wally is my favorite rival because of his god-tier theme in OR/AS and he got a lot of attention in OR/AS.
