I thought the opening game was really interesting. Everything was 3/4’s… slower serves, not driving through groundstrokes. Just really focusing on placement. It made for a slightly drawn out game with her errors, but it worked well against Kenin. She kept Sofia moving which produced a ton of errors from her. Then she seemed to get a little in her head and pulled back too much on her shots. But when she needed to produce, she pretty much always did. That’s the difference with Coco 2.0. I’m glad she got through this. I expected it to be a little nervy. My only worry was her moving in general. She seemed so much more cautious in her lateral movement. Almost like she didn’t trust her footing. Makes me think the new shoes need to go. They seem clunky and probably are getting to much tac on the court.
Coco was definitely playing very safe in the first set not being aggressive. But after the first set, the green light came on she stepped up her level and played some brilliant tennis. Glad she got the scrappy match out the way the 1st round !
The match was so stop and go. No rhythm because for a few reasons but Kenin just had no flow in her game, and Gauff served 9 doubles. It's hot as hell too.
She actually played kind of rough here! I think maybe playing a fellow American who had a winning head to head against Coco might have had her a bit nervous! But that United cup form 🥵 sheesh if she can build to that, she’s going to be tough to beat
each opponent hits the ball different. kenin guides the ball more than someone like iga or sabalenka so gauff had to adjust her game to her pace so her balls wouldn't fly long. gauff has way more power than kenin. thats why she was so cautious. what you saw at the united cup was master counter punching. that will come out in the later stages. trust me
@@arslaanpasha3334 Well her U.S. Open win was definitely a fluke because she never won it. I wouldn’t consider her slam win or Andrescu’s slam wins a fluke - they’re both really injured. Raducanu yes - definitely a fluke. She won in a pre vaccine pandemic year where many players skipped the slam.
Too bad for Kenin. She is making a come back career wise. Unlucky to match against one of the top top seed. Anything below 10 and Kenin would have gone to the second round.
Let’s gooooo Coco. If Kenin can find her stroke again and get that serve back to where it once was she can become a top 10 player again she has the game she just needs to Idk find another coach or something the talent is there it’s apparent
Coco was making so many backhand errors. I hope the adjustment to her forehand isn't hurting her backhand. Kenin was also making errors that I don't see normally from her.
Unlikely seeing 2 grandslam champions and Americans in the first round. I would have loved to See if Kenin would have developed through the tournament to get her confidence back up. Congratulations Coco. Let's keep it going. Unfortunately it will either be you or Naomi in the finals since they have you meeting in the 4rd or fourth round
She needs to perform better outside of the slams to be seeded tbh. She’s obviously gotten very unlucky the last 3 editions of the Australian Open (Azarenka, Iga and now Coco in R1) but she just hasn’t shown up in singles in years outside of a handful of events. You run the risk of a bad draw when you’re unseeded at a slam.
She’s had tough first rounds ever since the year that she won it (Kanepi 2021, Keys 2022, Azarenka 2023, Swiatek 2024, Gauff 2025). I definitely agree that she has to pick her up ranking bc she usually gets caught in the danger zone where she’s more susceptible to drawing someone ranked super high. But even then she drew Iga last year while being ranked at 33 (highest rank w/o a seed) and drew Keys while ranked 11 a couple of years ago so I think she’s just unlucky lmao
These first rounds can be tricky. Level usually rises going forward. Kenin's father is a nightmare!! I can't imagine how all he's negativity helps her. I never see him clap or give her a positive response. She needs to dump him again fast!!
Finally some highlights longer than 2.5 minutes!!! 🙌🏼
Despite the score Gauff seemed less aggressive in the first set but picked it up in the second. Let the games begin!!
that was probably the plan. just ease into the second round by not playing your best.

Good warm-up match for Coco. A quality round 1 opponent to kickstart her Aussie Open campaign 🙌
Wasn't her best, but she got the job done.
That's scary still 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Kenin is not such a pushover you have in mind..
@@JohnBopape-o1y Yeah, but for Coco to beat her in straight sets is still VERY SCARY.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@JohnBopape-o1y shut up.
Nobody is going to play there best in this year AO watch and see because the unseeded bringing there A game to push them
gauff's forehand definitely seemed stronger in the second set than the first. solid start anyway
That's was fast. AO Is going ahead of every other tournament 😊
USO says hold up wait a darn minute.
Nope, they saw how USO did things and had to level up and kudos to them for doing so! 👏
FO/Wimby, pull up! Lol!
uso has full matches uploaded within 2 days lmao
Coco's game took a massive leap this year even though she is Grand slam winner already, am rooting for her
The sound of the ball coco smashing it 🔥

Congrats Young Lady ! Do it Little Sis! 👸🏾👊🏾👣🫡🌟
It was a good Team USA match. Shout out to Craybas' commentary.
JOSH, you're back!!! I've missed you in these chat streets!! 🤗🤸💞
The commentary has really picked up in 2025
Yay Coco! Keep it going!
Coco deserves whatever success comes her way. Physically , she looks at her strongest yet. Go go Coco.
New Balance has the best outfits so far, this is a cute look. Coco really changed them for the better.
New Balance looks like they’re going to continue replicating Reebok’s old Venus Williams dresses 🤭
Lol! I said the SAME thing when I saw this outfit today. But she said it's an homage to the Marvel characters.
Doesn’t matter. Venus looked outstanding in those outfits and Coco’s looking amazing, too. Young, fresh… love it all!
I cheer for any of the girls because I love both of them. Sofia is an excellent player
Yup. Right?!
Why does she walk so fast though?
Bravo, beautiful Coco! Bravo! Keep it going. You're headed straight to the top. Stay humble, respectful, classy and professional. God bless you!
❤Love you Coco, on to the next

Yeah it just felt like she was jittery at times in this match

6:30 I want to see more drop shots from Gauff. I hope she keeps working on them.👏
Incidentally, her serves are getting better. 💪
Bravo Coco..lets goo🎉
Too bad for those two to meet this early.
Watch the full match…Kenin didn’t even run for half of the balls she could have. Not sure if her movement/fitness is off or if she is checked out.
Yes. It would be nice to see Kenin get back to her previous top level.
@@tennissir1986kenin is finished. Her us open win was a fluke. Same with radacanu and andreescu

Tough 1st round match up for two former GS champions.

Both did a great job
Gauff for No.1!
Good job Coco👸🏽👏🏽👍🏽💪🏽🎾
❤Kenin played like she’s reserving her energy… I don’t blame her due to the heat. Unfortunately she had to face Gauff on the first round
a good revenge from 2020 at the AO!
I know tennis isnt about the outfits but Coco has been slaying
Coco is the new Serena. Very athletic.
loved the thumbnail!!! but seriously though, what happened to Kenin?
Go Coco Winner takes it all ❤🇺🇸
All the best COCO. 2025 Championship year , AO for you my love 🏆. Book me a ticket for this finals COCO

I remember Kevin being a very tough opponent - just didn’t come together for her. Well done Coco!
Gauff turnt it up
Kenin has such a graceful but quietly powerful game.
Coco just working out the kinks🎉❤
Love Coco's outfit....
that was fast...first
Congratulations baby girl!
LOVE HER !
💞🦾💣 > WOW > COCO 🏆 POWERFUL FOREHAND DROP SHOT 👏 WAS ON 🔥 FIRE IN 2025 AS LIKE SHE DID IN 2024 🎉🎉❤
Let's go Coco!
eventually kenin will get a good draw in a slam, bc she’s had nightmare draws at slams for 2 years now
Coco looking real good though 🎉
How are all these former grand slam champions meeting in the first round???
Women in the 1800s and early 1900s played 5 sets!! TIME TO BRING THE RULE BACK. EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL EFFORT!
Good job Coco!
Two 1 slam wonders pushing it back to each other, LOL
Not a fan of Kenin but draw was degrading for/to a former champion.
Being a former champion doesn't get you a special place in the draw. She needs to get her ranking up if she wants to be seeded at Grand Slams again.

She has been on a decline. Her game today showed that.

Weird how her level against Iga was 10x the level she played here.
Sweet revenge! But mot a top performance.

Whatever happened to kenin you can hardly tell she was a champion here few years ago.
