I'VE BEEN CALLING HIM "WHEELER MICHINOKU" FOR MONTHS! That's hilarious.
Shota in that ring gear looked like a Young Tanahashi. Can't wait to see how he develops when he heads back to NJPW.
Shota has always looked like a young tanahashi… and soon enough, he will be pushed like a young tanahashi as well (same goes for ren narita as a young shibata… and maybe yota tsuji can be the young nakamura). He’s been marked for stardom since his first matches as a youngboy. And not just getting pref treatment bc his dad is the head ref for njpw… he is hard working and talented enough without that connection to deserve the spot he’s going to be put in.
Bouffant is a hard noun. They make for the best insults.
@@NLaBar if they trusted Narita to go against Shibata at WK, I think they trust him with anything
This was just another match to feed Jericho's ego and another stepping stone to the never-ending feud between Jericho and Kingston. I don't even think it's over after Blood and Guts because Jericho didn't tap to Kingston. Now poor Claudio is already Wheelie's new babysitter. The funny part is Uncle Dave gave this match 4.75 stars, yet ironically never gave any Forbidden Door match 5 stars.
What makes it ironic
@@TeamKP1 Because Meltzer is a massive mark for New Japan and AEW, and the fact he didn't hand out 5 stars for the show is telling.
@@matthewhostetter8974 People who watch New Japan hates meltzer cause they think he is harsh on them. He also called it the best show of the year. It’s one dudes opinion meltzer love and hate is so confusing to me lmao people are obsessed with this guy
He loved The Forbidden Door all the matches but the women's match got 4.5 or 4.75 stars
@@matthewhostetter8974 dude he doesn't rank the matches he does polls so it is the people that give a match whatever star rating not Meltzer he hasn't given an actual match rating since the pandemic
Takeshita is honestly really impressive from what I've seen, I think they have something there.
Yawn
Take-Shitta is dope
good looks and good size gachiHYPER
His entrance theme is dope
AEW is like the inside joke that all the dorks in class know, but no one else does.
Exactly! Led by Tony Khan, the 40 year old virgin.
Well u know and is talking about it. Guess u are part of the dorks
*AEW is like the inside joke that all the dorks in class know, but no one else gives a f*ck about because they’re all dorks.
all wrestling fans are dorks by default tbh
As god is my witness, my old man said the exact same thing about wheeler Yuta that he has Taka mitchinoku vibes. Holy shit this scares me that they think alike.
Wheeler looks taller and more muscular than Taka(at least Taka in the WWF). And what's wrong with Taka...he got over pretty well in the land of the giants until they put him in Kaientai and made him a comedy wrestler.
Honestly, if Regal has any say in who goes in the BPCC, and he picked Yuta, that's endorsement enough for me.
Kingston is a bum. I don't gey why people like his promo. Just find some 90's rap. You'll enjoy it more.
@@itscarlyj I don't remember any one bringing him up. Since we're talking about wte, I just ate the best apple ever.
@@russellcampbell3500 Did you listen to the clip because clearly Brian did. Since we're just going off topic. I can't wait for the new season of Stargirl. Love that show.
The Fabrege Egg has me in tears 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Brian makes a great point at being able to predict spots and sections of matches. I don't get why the fans care, the Bucks did a flip, great, so what we expected that. Kingston and Suziki chop each-other, yeah we expected that too. I don't get the excitement for what you expect to happen. I mean I love a flip, but I've never watched a match for one or sat there waiting for it. I don't it it, the logic of 'oh we need to watch Kingston's match him a Suziki will do that thing they always do.'
I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about or if you're being sincere here, but can you really not fathom excitement outside of surprise? Is that the only way you think excitement can be earned? By surprise?
@@brandon-e6q9w When the same things happens every match it feigns interest.
@@RoomofMima That doesn't really seem to negatively impact other sports. I don't really hear people complaining about Jones throwing a front kick, or GSP taking people down. Point is, fighters have styles and signature moves. Saying they they do the same thing every match kind of misses the point about what this is all supposed to be.
But all you heads, get upset when you see something new anyways. Corny is always like "have you ever seen that" then gets excited for a Brock, and Reigns match which is the same 10 moves. All wrestler have a set amount of rules, people only complain if they don't like the wrestler, or tries to be cool by acting like they only like old shit.
A wrestling match has a story, peaks and lulls and building up to a specific outcome. Even WWE C-show matches from the early-mid 00s are more interesting than most wrestling these days.
I was just thinking when I saw Wheeler Yuta that he looks exactly like Taka Michinoku aka Takao Yoshida, he even does his Michinoku driver finisher!
Jericho and his Sports Entertainment opened the show great and closed it terribly with an afterbirth.
Jericho was the man in this PPV. He pinned the Japanese guy to win the match for his table, he later further disrespected him by throwing a fireball at him. To put the cherry on top he got to be in the finish of the show lol.
I'm a fan of Shota. He and Takeshita have been enjoyable. I was kind of disappointed they didn't have "red shoes", the njpw ref, come in and referee a match. Since he's Shota's dad. Also prefer him over most of the AEW refs lol.
I think he retired.
@@TimTE01 Red Shoes Unno still refs in New Japan.
Would've been cool to see a ref bump and red shoes run down..since the heat stems from jericho putting the walls on shota when he was a young boy on the outside of the ring to taunt red shoes who was the ref and shota's dad.
Travis needs to make Corny's face with Suzuki's crazy ass hair lmao that would be gold
I remember as a kid seeing Jushin Liger for the first time. I was like wow. Who is this dude. 😳
When did this trend of "I let you hit me, no sell it, then we both just stand there while it's my turn to hit you, and repeat" start?!
Imagine if Austin and Bret Hart did that in their WM 13 match, which looked way more like an actual fight than any of these "Japanese" style matches.
It's popular in AJPW, I think
It represents ‘fighting spirit’ it’s a hugely popular spot in Japan to show how tough you are. Pretty sure even guys like Rikidozan, Inoki, Baba did these type of spots. You will see it in most Japanese wrestling matches now and it always pops the crowd
Literally every wrestling match has a point where the two wrestlers stand in the center of the ring trading shots. If it didn't work by drawing the cheers of those who like it and the ire of those who don't then they wouldn't keep doing it.
It's boring , eye rolling , channel changing stuff depending who is in the match
@@josephwheatley5488 It represents "stupid".. because it's just plain stupid.
I'm over Kingstons whole Japanese obsession. I like the dude a lot, he is super talented and has great charisma, but the whole slapping, chopping, spinning back "fist" shit looks terrible, especially when everybody else is throwing superkicks and pile drivers...
why would anybody assume that a "palm strike" to the side of somebody shoulder would do anything when they are no selling flipping powerbombs and chair shots... The guy needs the learn how to throw a punch.
Never saw the appeal in Eddie he just another loud New York Guy u see on the Train or Bus nothing special there
@@Kalbuir66 all the umph in the world doesn't make a karate chop into a fist... and nobody in that company knows how to take it.
@@greatestever2560 The thing that makes him special is that he is capable of breaking the "sports entertainment" wall and making it seem like he is being authentically him. The problem is that nobody else in the company gives a shit about authenticity, so long term it kinda just makes him seem like a real serious failure. lol
Also, Jericho is poison to anything he touches, and unfortunately he puts his grubby little paws on anything that gets a little bit of attention.
@ItzalriteTV Cheers.
Those chops in the corner were terrible
Eddie Kingston is really souring on me. Over the top acting.
He reminds me of Scrappy-Do.
To be fair, politics gave us multiman matches. Okada is known for epic 1v1s not multiman nonsense. And all this wasnt helped by the fact that it was a couple weeks before the G1 starts. Historically, the weeks leading up to it the wrestlers are going light because the tourny schedule of the G1 and expectations are high for their workrate in it.
Can’t wait for the blood and guts review.
Such a cluster fuck.
I can
Anything with Jericho is the shits. He doesn't benefit anyone he works with. Now Claudio is stuck in this cluster fuck.
@@savagereaper6291 bingo.
The moment I saw Suzuki and Kingston are going to be involved in this, I already knew there was going to be a spot where they start hitting/slapping each other, no selling it like a bunch of idiots.
Me too.
I'm surprised Jim has never heard of Kenta Kobashi. It would be interesting to hear Jim review some of Kobashi's more notable matches from All Japan. Jim has name dropped both Stan Hansen and Jumbo Tsuruta, and Kobashi had some amazing matches with them both, so maybe that's a good place to start?
He's had to have heard of him I just find it hard to believe he hasn't
Jim doesn't like Japanese wrestling
@@Sinnach87 No he's not a fan of the new school shit he appreciates the old school for the most part
Kobashi literally worked with ROH, not at the time Cornette was booker, but like lol come on
@@texasyoshi he literally had a video on what Buddy Murphy should do after leaving WWE. This after commenting a few of his matches.
When he came out in AEW, he said he has no idea who this guy is, and nobody in the arena does either.
He is either going senile, or straight out lies in some of the videos only to crate controversy.
How can you not like Minoru Suzuki...the guy is tought as nails and despite being older, can still tell a great story. Sometimes it's hard to tell what Jim wants from wrestlers...either their too small, too jacked, too many high spots, not enough high spots.
Suzuki is a throwback to the guys Jim likes and for some reason doesn't like him in this match...ok Jim.
He thinks Lawler vs Funk No DQ was a good match.
He really isn’t a throwback to the kind of wrestler Jim likes. Suzuki is a 54 year old man who looks older, has no discernible physique and thinks wrestling a match is about showing off how many slaps or kicks you can take. There’s nothing worse than starting to get into a match just for it to be stopped in it’s tracks for ages so that they can take turns standing there and blatantly letting the other guy hit them. May as well just have the ref bring in a measuring tape and whip the dicks out. Nah. Suzuki is a washed up old guy trying to pretend he’s some sort of badass. The only people who believe him are the squaredcirclejerkers. It doesn’t matter how “tough” he is. He’s in the wrestling business. There aren’t any wimps choosing to make a living off this. He’s nothing special and it’s ridiculous to pretend otherwise.
It's hard to tell what Jim wants from wrestlers? He probably wanted to see them in matches that aren't complete garbage?
☝️ there you go
@@wloffblizz He likes Lawler and Funk so they can't do no wrong in Jim Cornette's eyes.
I wish MJF had beat Jericho in that match where the stipulation was that Jericho never wrestled again in AEW if he lost....
Jericho just will not go away.....
@@crazercrazer
Yep, he’s turned into the final turd that just won’t flush; he could have easily put MJF over in that series, pretended to retire, and then either just did commentary for a while, or take a few months off- maybe go on the road with Fozzy, or just enjoy a bit of a break.
Then, because we know retirements in wrestling are very seldom permanent, he could have announced he was coming back; they could then have done an angle, where Jericho wasn’t being allowed to return, due to the previous retirement stipulations he’d agreed to.
If he was returning as a babyface, they could have then had Jericho be all gracious about not being allowed to wrestle again, and instead return on commentary; then, after a few weeks of announcing, perhaps one of the heels starts making fun of Jericho for not being allowed to wrestle again, and say how lucky Chris is to not be a wrestler anymore, because he’d (whichever heel it is) love to beat the hell out of Jericho, but he doesn’t fight over the hill announcers…or something like that.
Then they could have built up to a match between the two, with the stipulation being: if Jericho wins, he gets to return to wrestling; but if he loses this time, not only would he still never be allowed to wrestle for AEW again, he’d never be able to return to the company in ANY capacity…
Or at least something along those lines would have been better, than just beating MJF; MJF is an up and coming talent, who could really do with winning those kind of matches, to keep his heat, so he can crow to the fans that he beat their heroes.
And it wouldn’t have hurt Jericho to do the job to him.
The, when they brought Jericho back, they could have had the heel that antagonises him, be one of the old timers, like a Christian Cage; they could have made it about Christian saying he always knew he was better than Jericho, and that Jericho was forced to retire because he just couldn’t cut it anymore…
It could have led to a nice little conflict between the two; but, more importantly, it would have given MJF his win against him, and, even more importantly, kept Jericho off television for a few months haha.
But, alas, we can’t always get what we want…especially when the ego of Chris Jericho is involved haha.
My daily dose of Cornette, it's like a multivitamin. I liked Forbidden Door, though fell asleep 3 times while watching. The first match was so so. Good thing I DVR'D it.
Since Chris Jericho is a heel isn't it about time for him to change his entrance theme since the Fans are singing it and it's getting Jericho more over as a heel?
He should put some Japanese worlds in his song so the crowd won’t able to sing it lol
He should come out to it but have it playing backwards
This the only time he ever gets to hear a crowd sing a Fozzy song, god knows it has never happened at a concert.
He will never give it up. He enjoys it way too much.

As much as people slurp up everything Kingston does, his rapid slap spot is one of the dumbest things in wrestling.

I see why half of the wrestling world hates Jim cornette
Usually its the half that do stupid stuff and don't like hearing the truth. Not saying Jim is always right. But 75% of the time he's spot on about these matches.
I loved the Kingston Vs Steen rivalry back in ROH 10 years ago, Kingston is real.
The Taka comparison is perfect. The way he stands & moves is Taka
Yet Dixie Khan has him working like Lesnar lol.
People dont understand how to smartly book a good worker but with little body and charisma. Concentrate on the in-ring work, make him lose to other people of his position but who are gonna be stars, or make them a victim for a monster, at first. Meanwhile you tell him to bulk-up and give him tips to have at least improve a bit his presence in the ring, he will slowly turn to an underdog that people will cheer for and get behind because he works hard, and that's WHEN you make him have an upset, a fluke or something, so people dont lose hope, but you gotta do it gradually. Not throwing them in the midst of people way above them, it will just highlight his flaws and thus nullify partially his strenghts. Its like in ECW, did Heyman put 911 against Malenko? No, he kept it simple, as a sideshow act to get the most of the guy without exposing him, had he put him against any legit wrestler, that wouldve killed the act.
So am I right in assuming every match at this event was just mini battle royals? Or six-man tornado matches or whatever?
Any regular 1v1 matches?
yeah. i think on the acc ppv there were three 1v1s

Wrestling comes in lots of styles and flavours... and Jim only likes one style of wrestling. Anything else (Lucha, Hardcore, Strong Style, Indy stuff) he hates... and AEW purposely presents all wrestling styles, so at this point it feels like Jim is an old man going into a restaurant and being angry that they serve anything other than the ONE meal he likes to order.
Yep. Like Jim said himself long time ago, "choccolate and vanilla" if you don't like one flavor, you get the other.

But when it comes to his chops, he goes back in time to 1997 & turns into a 15-year kid trying to do the same chops he saw kobashi use in his low quality, overpriced ripoff ajpw VHS’s from rf video (before feinstein got caught trying to prey on little boys online)

I’m a real big Japanese wrestling fan so this was the first AEW Ppv I watched! I think a lot of the Japanese talent were taking it easy for obvious reasons, a lot of those guys have to do the G1 soon and don’t want to risk getting injured. Have to give major credit to Tanahashi for still busting himself at his age and still being the best performer on the show. It's not just the trading of haymakers or chops when invited or the machine gun chops in the corner but the Tope Suicida is done way too much. If a guy is 5' 8 and barely 200lbs and bouncing all over the place doing Summersaults that's his thing. The issue is nearly every modern wrestler now does a Tope Suicida move, if you have 6 or 7 matches on an AEW Card I bet 5 or 6 of those if not all of them have that move in it.
There is no law against it but it's lost any impact or wow factor because everyone is doing it. I know TK won't stop them from doing it but from a performance standpoint the wrestlers have to look at their own shit and go "everyone is doing this I should do something else to stand out"

I haven't seen a single minute of AEW programming. And I don't have to watch it ever since Jim is reviewing it on his podcast and apparently it sucks balls just like WWE!
@@sonicplys64 xD thats awesome! good for you!
@@ivaldiolea1974 I think Jim hates the wrestling world being made fun of because of their style of wrestling like their sticking 2 fingers up at wrestling in general! Jim has praised as many wrestlers as he's railed at when he thinks they deserve from any company! He is searingly honest at times cos he's so passionate about wrestling! No worries with your English I understood you perfectly! 👍👍
when a baseball bat being used as a weapon doesn't lead to a finish in a multiman, non-title match, you know modern pro wrestling sucks
Time to reset what moves do what.
It's gotten silly.
Orange Cassidy killed Aew to me
