And admittedly, I do wish they had given smallish updates (stuff like adding in an originally scrapped character like Robo-Ky for Xrd, or maybe even adding in a graphical toggle [Strive Style -> Xrd Style, and vice versa] as a tribute to Daisuke's nearly 3 decades of work on the Guilty Gear series) to their older titles when the rollback updates started coming around.

This is a weird place to ask this but I genuinely don’t know where else I would, so Mr. Masher, I have a question: Strive was my first fighting game, and over the past year or so since I started playing it I’ve tried KOFXV, SF6, and Skullgirls (Strive is still by far my favorite but damn this genre is fun, how did I miss out on fighting games for so long?). I recently started playing +R to see what came before and am enjoying it a LOT, second only to Strive, but I’m having one big problem: throws. Every time I try to throw, I get 6H, even if I feel like I’m close enough to smell the opponent’s breakfast on their breath. This is happening with both air and ground throws, it being 4/6H instead of 4/6D is absolutely killing me and has to be the number 1 thing I prefer about Strive. Having seen you do incredibly precise things like throwing bursts, it’s clearly a me problem, sooo… any advice on how to more consistently get throw? Love your vids btw, been watching since I started playing strive and you’re the main reason I decided to go back and try +R!
I love to hear it bud glad you're enjoying the old games too. Main thing is making sure you're not trying to run and throw. You can only throw when walking/standing still. Make sure you're also holding 6 or 4 only, not 3, 2 or other directions. I used to have that problem trying to air throw since i was holding 9 or 7 instead of a straight left or right. Also for air throws you have to be a bit lower than them to get the best spacing, if you're above you may not get them. Since Plus R has a fantastic replay mode, i suggest going back to a match where you swore you threw. Use the replay take over feature and try again and again to see what works. Good luck my dude keep at it

unique defensive mechanics are always a headache for zato since you're kind of forced into very linear blockstrings when tag teaming with eddie however seeing the absolutely rancid dumpster fire pressure sequences that are neccesary to open characters like jam and baiken up makes it worth it cause you have to do really dumb shit to stay safe. i'd love to see a vid like this on zato since going chimp mode with him is seldom talked about since he's the resident tech god but i believe that theres just as much depth in being an idiot while controlling 2 characters as there is depth in the more talked about smart shit

Nah twice. Go into run 236s then do the split kick with k then do 214k. However to do it easier you can do the 214 before you split kick and just hit kick twice, giving the fastest overhead
There is something magical about +R and Xrd that Strive or even Centralfiction could not replicate. These dopamine moments are what's worth all of your learning effort: BALLING HARD!!! Heck, I'm convince that if you put Happy Chaos and Nago into this game, they would be strong but not as broken as they are in Strive when things like this exist and NO GUARD CRUSH!!!

I don't think it's inherently good or bad because i think it works well in the game it's presented in. 1f throws would not work in bbcf but i think it's a fun to play around and use in gear. Air throw as a defense option is a legitimate thing because of this mechanic and i love it
@LucidButtonMasher I understand air throws but grounded throws are some of the lamest stuff to deal with in acr especially with the tech frames being nonexistent even if I can predict a grab. It just doesn't feel right to be able to grab someone the moment you wakeup just cause they didn't use a grab invulnerable move or didn't pressure from afar. It feels wrong to have to guess like that on your own offense. At most I'm fine with guessing a dp or reversal cause that's what they are in the game for but adding frame 1 throws to the game now means I can't just keep my offense going I gotta guess on my turn, say I jump to predict a grab but their heavy slash somehow still hits me THATS RETARDED and let's say I wanna condition this guy into thinking I'll always jump so this dude will use an anti air and he does use one but because I blocked it its his turn now it makes knockdown so lame imo.
Really the only thing I don’t like about Jam in Xrd is her broken English in her dialogue, otherwise she is an absolutely goofy goober and an agent of chaos.

@@all-starsilver1835 well, jam is a Master of ki manipulation, wich is extremely powerfull, and a funny thing, Sin is only 1/4 gear(1/8 considering ky took one of his eyes but i dont know how this works and im just as dumb as Sin) but hes just as powerfull as his mother, and my headcannon is that in his intakill he creates a explosion that is slightly weaker than the emotional gamma ray, and the split thunder has a similar power to the St. Elmo thunder, and for me when Sin activates "instakill mode" i like tô think the animation is that his gear cells are so powerfull they can pierce the eyepatch restrain(his eyepatch works like Sol's bandana that puts his gear cells dorment), i found so funny that in many series, humans are so weak and demons are the strongest, but the half human half demon is naturally stronger than them all for some reason, but i got a little side-tracked, i dont know the extent of gow powerfull ki manipulation can be, and i wonder if Sin can do the gamma ray (Sorry for the poor english)

I mean, i like Xrd Jam, I really do. But when +R Jam has no whiff animation on parry, doesn't have to use the dumb followups, and doesn't have to route into those stupid 46PK combos, the choice always felt easy to me.
Those "dumb followups" means Xrd Jam can actually get good damaging confirms without cards, unlike +R Jam. What used to be a nice damage bonus to your already existing combos in past XX games became mandatory in AC/+R just to have boring wallstick loops.
Relying on cards more isn't exactly a problem in a game with 22D. Honestly, I always find it weird that a lot of her previous XX iterations made cards so optionnal. It's supposed to be the whole character's deal. @@GIR177

Your oki relies on spaced normals, throw invuln moves, or jump in meaty so you don't get hit by the 6h. It works just fine imo

Really the only thing I don’t like about Jam in Xrd is her broken English in her dialogue, otherwise she is an absolutely goofy goober and an agent of chaos.
Yeah jp and China don't have the best relationship so making her speak like that made it weird

@@all-starsilver1835 well, jam is a Master of ki manipulation, wich is extremely powerfull, and a funny thing, Sin is only 1/4 gear(1/8 considering ky took one of his eyes but i dont know how this works and im just as dumb as Sin) but hes just as powerfull as his mother, and my headcannon is that in his intakill he creates a explosion that is slightly weaker than the emotional gamma ray, and the split thunder has a similar power to the St. Elmo thunder, and for me when Sin activates "instakill mode" i like tô think the animation is that his gear cells are so powerfull they can pierce the eyepatch restrain(his eyepatch works like Sol's bandana that puts his gear cells dorment), i found so funny that in many series, humans are so weak and demons are the strongest, but the half human half demon is naturally stronger than them all for some reason, but i got a little side-tracked, i dont know the extent of gow powerfull ki manipulation can be, and i wonder if Sin can do the gamma ray

I mean, i like Xrd Jam, I really do.
But when +R Jam has no whiff animation on parry, doesn't have to use the dumb followups, and doesn't have to route into those stupid 46PK combos, the choice always felt easy to me.

Those "dumb followups" means Xrd Jam can actually get good damaging confirms without cards, unlike +R Jam. What used to be a nice damage bonus to your already existing combos in past XX games became mandatory in AC/+R just to have boring wallstick loops.
Relying on cards more isn't exactly a problem in a game with 22D. Honestly, I always find it weird that a lot of her previous XX iterations made cards so optionnal. It's supposed to be the whole character's deal. @@GIR177
