can we apply Chi square test of independence when data is in Five point Lickert Scale and respondents are not in category. for Example a statement is " my school values my contribution" and responses were measured on five point Lickert Scale. can we use Chi square test on such statements

Sir I am sorry but this was quite confusing, why expecting values here when we were just testing the association. Second thing is why pearson r's value when its a non-parametric test. Kindly guide.
