Full 22° arc, 46° arc, 22° upper tangent, 22° lower tangent, Subsun below the sun, subsun sundogs, parhelic circle and 23° upper parhelia. It all is caused by ice dust floating on the air. These rare halos are caused by specific structure, position and angle of ice crystals. Indeed very nice catch! Regards beginner of photographing halo phenomenon here in Finland!

Assuming you're not lying, and assuming what you saw WAS a sun dog, these are clouds which change the position they are in all the time and never are still. They're traces of ice inside ice crystals, in the same way there are traces of water in water vapor which is what clouds are made of. The fact that people need to explain this with the Flat Earth shows our education system failed.

I'm 54 years old....ive saw one sun dog in my life ....back in 1987 or 88 I was coming out of church and there was a sun dog....it was beautiful....ive never seen one again.

Because of pollution and global warming, you probably wont see this commonly as it wont be cold for shards to refract a sundog
