The Pointer are so beautiful, so talented, so original. I really liked their earlier songs when there were four. They continue to touch so many people.
about 2 years before this was shot.. I was was behind the TV camera at a hole in the wall TV station in SF.. and nobody had yet heard of the pointer sisters. Be still my fucking heart !
I just ran across a version of Wang dang doodle and realised I like the song. So I have been looking for different version and realised this is the exact version I knew from groing up in Suriname. ❤❤❤❤❤ And now I am crying 🙋🏾🇸🇷🇳🇱
It is too bad that Bonnie left the group, she is pretty funny, has a beautiful voice and lots of energy, she brings to the stage. Love ❤️ all The Pointer Sisters. I think they were an amazing group who could sing 🎶 🎤 anything and was so good at it. R.I.P. June,Bonnie and Anita, your legacy will live on forever.
Man I grew watching amd listening to them I sort of took them for granted. Man they were awesome. I don't THINK any other group had a better sound. ...I forgot how sexy they too.
Let's all go back in time to The Pointer Sisters' living room in Oakland California when they were girls... and listen to their family's record collection
The Best Group of that era..they had real talent and stage presence..I just don't understand why all those Mannequins were seated in the Audience. This Performance was FIRE!
@Clubbin Mag okeeee! That explains the old saying "Can't scratch your head & chew gum at the same time. But honestly, the music, the movements, the stage antics & singing would have made me cut loose no matter how awkward I've would have been😀😆😅🤣
@@duragggura3695 I suppose you feel better insulting others that you don’t know. Good for you! Some performances & some venues aren’t meant to dance to. But you have the right to enjoy however you want to.
@@duragggura3695 look at them! (The audience) they weren’t ready for that! They (POINTER SISTERS) came out with a all original jump rope style neighborhood song! (Only black girls & people in the area know that kinda stuff) then they made up their own version of a jump rope song (so only the POINTER sisters themselves know the words to) then they sang a completely different version of a song that not only blues lovers exclusively knew. (Wang Dang Doodle) They sang it in a way that even those that knew the song, never heard it like The Pointer Sisters sang it. And they sang they asses off! They not only sang a blues song on a pop show, they sang it in gospel, scat, & jazz they showed out! How could that stiff crowd (who were use to Pat Boone) handle something so energetic and original as the POINTER SISTERS
They must have been very close since childhood to be singing in synchronicity. Singing together must have been second nature to them growing up. Ahhhhh-MAY-ZING.
I don’t know what they are singing, but, I love ❤️ the energy and the beat to this song 🎵 Love ❤️ The Pointer Sisters, listening to them, really gets me wanting to sing 🎤 and dance 💃 along with them. Great job Ladies.👏👏❤️🎵🎤🥰
a wang dang doodle is a party where you sell fried fish plates, sell moonshine, gamble, sneak off for some quick sex in the car, there are at least two fights that break out and you pass out and remember nothing the next day but wake up with somebody elses drawer's on! that is a wang dang doodle my friend!
The Pointer Sisters were so very noteworthy when they first started out, as we see them here. Not just the amazing singing, but the retro fashions they wore, and the choices of what they sang so well. There wasn't anyone else just then anywhere close to their specialness. I agree that this audience is mostly a bunch of uninspired and inert dumbbells. The Pointer Sisters deserved much better.
Thanx soo much for this. Takes me back to my teendays, singin in my living room w/my bro & sis, using hair brushes& screw drivers as mikes, while we did our chores.lol, It's still as much fun to hear!! (RIP June. you are missed)
Thanks for posting this video. I LOVE The Pointer Sisters. I happened upon this looking for versions of Wang Dang Doodle & I was happy to find the playground rhyme that was used as the song intro. I collect playground rhymes & I've added this version to my collection. Google Pancocojams Ladies, Gentleman, Children Too Playground Rhyme for that transcription. That post also includes this video, other examples of that rhyme, & some information about sources for lines in that rhyme. Thanks again!
I think someone needs to go check the pulses of some of these people. Good God how can you not feel the rhythm when these talented ladies are performing. I'd be jumping up and down, clapping. Their loss.
complete authority at the fatback drum chair - Mr Gaylord Birch - other LPs of note where he is key, Festival (Santana) and Thriller (Coldblood) - even a level above Mike Clark and Dave Garibaldi, who got a lot of talk in that day, with good reason
Warren Cox Agreed! Their 80s songs were fun hits, but nothing compared to those 4 women I first heard singing Yes We Can Can on my AM radio in the early 70s. They really were versatile. It's like the record company polished all their uniqueness away by 1981 & turned them into a hit factory.
I get what you mean, but to say Automatic doesn’t take talent is disgraceful. Females with that low of a range are super frikkin rare, no other Pointer could his those BASS notes but Ruth.
And I am here to say, Mark Sanders, y'all know what you're talking about. I am a fan of Mark Sanders drumming since January 1981 and can actually listen to that Scotia club show, where Mark was new part of the mighty Tower of Power- Misty Moon Cabaret was the club - it's here on YT thanks to cat named BIll Boutilier. An artist named Michael Jeffries charms the house as ToP lead vocalist - examined on LP years after, he is incredible, greatly underrated where he was like others in shadow of Lenny Williams. Gaylord meanwhile must be a legend by now. Mike Clark lists him & Ray Torres as funkiest, ever around CA. Gaylord offers a textbook series of funk accents in Reach Up by Santana; & always amazing, Coldblood take on You Are The Sunshine of My Life; the bebop track Little Pony with the Pointers - unreal. BTW the family name Birch is the oldest African-Nova Scotia family name,. Mark you put hooks all through Dinosaur Ttracks material - IMO that disc is a must for ToP fans. Best regards & success to you in 2018.
LIVE, people. That was done live. Mindboggling by any standard but especially today's.
I've always loved the Pointer Sisters...what a talented group!
This was such a special performance seeing all 4 of the Sisters together.. their harmonies in this song is amazing I love The Pointer Sisters
wow. I've never seen any group of singers do what they just did. It's on a whole other level...
Back in the day they can do it all you name it jazz , r&b, pop, country, and funky!
The Pointer are so beautiful, so talented, so original. I really liked their earlier songs when there were four. They continue to touch so many people.
I don't know why they didn't continue in this vein. The latter stuff could of been anyone.
I can’t watch these ladies without hearing “salt peanuts, salt peanuts,,”. 🎶😎
Exactly
I must have seen them perform Wang Dang on TV in '74 because the chorus has been stuck in my head for 44 years.
Incredible! So much vintage soulful goodness in one family! I loved these women! They could REALLY put it down!
about 2 years before this was shot.. I was was behind the TV camera at a hole in the wall TV station in SF.. and nobody had yet heard of the pointer sisters. Be still my fucking heart !
4 of the classiest ladies in the business!!!!!!!
That’s what talent looks and sounds like.
They were the original back up singers for Sylvester in the early 70's
Really I've never heard that wow
These girls were the TRUTH!
I just ran across a version of Wang dang doodle and realised I like the song. So I have been looking for different version and realised this is the exact version I knew from groing up in Suriname. ❤❤❤❤❤ And now I am crying 🙋🏾🇸🇷🇳🇱
Hottest jazz vocal group together with Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. I'll never forget these great creative times.
I am back to listening to the amazing sisters - hopefully their legacy stays, they desirve it,
I love the energy of the Pointer SIsters!! They love to make the crowd happy!

They were stunned! Can’t dance and watch at the same time! 😂

When I was little my mother would put this song on & me & my brother & sisters would get down.😄
They were just fabulous performers...that's a fond memory of my youth is watching them jam 😊
Count the different styles and genres that they just displayed in one performance and on one song. Never saw that before.
They were having a blast doing this, you can tell.
simply awesome they were the greatest...They took me to the church ..can I get an Amen?
I have always loved The Pointer Sisters!
This is the same energy and harmony I saw and heard in their concert in Atlantic City. They just added some soul and harmony to this. 😀👍✌
Entertainers! In 2021 who has this kind of talent and style and family bond, musically??
They must have been very close since childhood to be singing in synchronicity. Singing together must have been second nature to them growing up. Ahhhhh-MAY-ZING.

pamella williams LMAO. Pretty much in a nutshell. A really BIG nutshell, but a nutshell nonetheless.
Fucking, fighting and fixing flats.
LMAO! Oh, you are bad Miss Williams
Same group did "Fairytale" in this same era. Slow country song. Their range is just astonishing, especially in the early era
Thank you. I was right back home in Suriname. ❤❤❤
*That’s EXACTLY where I was in ‘74 … 😂*
Rest in Groove Peace Bonnie
June has impeccable range
She sure did! RIP June!
so talented - dem girls had good genes,
Será que não vêem que são pioneiras?
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS

Love me song Pointer sisters!
Love all their voices. Ruth is my fav. 💖

Sitting quietly and listening to the music? Not drowning out the beautiful finish to the song? Yeah. What a terrible audience.
Ruthie gives me lifeeee!!!
Good God almighty, they were so great.
And they did all that dancing and choreographing with corded microphones. I'm surprised no one fell and broke a bone.
People are alive when the Pointer Sisters
Put down the funk
The harmony of the Shirelles, with the stage presence of the Andrews sisters. My favorite female group of all time.
Thanx soo much for this. Takes me back to my teendays, singin in my living room w/my bro & sis, using hair brushes& screw drivers as mikes, while we did our chores.lol, It's still as much fun to hear!!

Miss this kind of mysic ... REAL music 💗
The Sisters swing alwright - so good!
Before their Disco/dance era, they sang Jazz, Bebop, Blues & R & B. They are so much more talented than "He's So Fine", "Automatic" etc.

June sure did hold that SOPRANO
We’re gonna HITCH A WAAAAGON!
I hope they'll reunite and make a jazz album.

♥♥♥ It!
If that's Gaylord Birch, he's so great. One of best drummers ever.
That's Gaylord, and no mistake. Unique drummer. If you want more of his work, check out Reconstruction (1979).
