This is probably one of my very most favorite songs ever, (specifically this very exact version,) and Janis Siegel's voice and technique and vocal mastery and storytelling in this gem is very much how I've tried to pattern my own singing style after. Or at least try to implement as many pointers as I possibly could from it. The dynamics, the smooth pizzazz, how it pops, the way it so seductively sways and invigorates as it takes you on such an exuberant ride makes your ears and mind so very satisfied on such a soul level. OOOOOOF.
This is the definitive version of this song for me and I couldn't figure out where I'd heard it from! Now I can rest at ease. Seriously, nothing beats this band or Janis Siegel on vocals. Such a hot, swingin' arrangement.
Yes, I did, because I danced like that in the 1940s. And yes, I'm that old. Of course we didn't do some of those really dramatic maneuvers, but we did pretty much of what is seen in the movie. And, the girls wore skirts and they would go up and over their dance partner's back and that was not considered a big deal. We were having too much fun to care. That was dancing! Today's kids call dancing to stand in one place and wave their arms in the air. In those days there were no overweight children.
I seriously have no idea how a song could possibly get more perfect than this. It hits and satisfies every aspect and requirement for musical perfection on every possible level. Completely. And my obsession with it has been going hard since I was in 6th? grade. Even longer than my Tool obsession. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is my one musical obsession that can rival my undying, relentless love of Tool.
I fell in love with this song many many years ago. And love listening to it when I have time. I also love playing it to younger people so the new generations can appreciate Big Band music.
These were almost my very exact same thoughts and words verbatim! I used to have to carry the cassette tape of the soundtrack around with me so I could listen to it and reference it at will, because it sure wasn't available any place else for the longest and I am so fucking thrilled this is here and more readily available than a cassette player! 😂❤🤘🏻
I heard a version of this recently and thought "this isn't the version I know". A half-hour later I found it. Didn't realize this version had such an impact on me. Great movie!
Bei mir bist du schön, please let me explain 'Bei mir bist du schön' means that you're grand Bei mir bist du schön, again I'll explain It means you're the fairest in the land I could say 'bella, bella' even say 'wünderbar' Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are Bei mir bist du schön, please let me explain 'Bei mir bist du schön' means that you're grand I could say 'bella, bella' even say 'wünderbar' Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are I've tried to explain, 'bei mir bist du schön' So kiss me and say you understand I could say 'bella, bella' even 'sehr wünderbar' Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are!
This song was a big hit in Germany until the Nazis learned that "Bei Mir Bist du Schoen" wasn't a southern German dialect as they'd initially thought, but was in fact Yiddish. Their response hardly need be detailed.
As wonderful as this is, it's a tragedy that the full recording was never released to the public... If you watch the film Swing Kids, there is an extended trumpet solo that is not present in this recording. It was edited out for the CD release. I don't know why.
Only 10 years ago, these folks created one of the best versions of this timeless classic, which we hope will outlive russian agression by ras"putin"...
Swing songs! There are a ton all over. Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Benny Goodman are all artists from the era with amazing songs. Many swing songs are faster, but there are tons of slow-paced ones!
This had been stuck in my head for 3 years, felt like it was the right time to come back to this.
This is the best version of that song!!!!
Without doubt
Too bad this version isn't on Apple Music but yes, I agree!
Thank you, Google Doodle of May 26, 2021!
Same
Just came from that rn
I have loved this song for the longest time!! I was so excited to see it used in the swing dancing google doodle!!
