yea same. it brings chills to my skin. it reminds me of how homer only wanted to make his dad proud and instead his dad wanted homer to be like him. his dad was a tough guy but deep down inside had a big heart. When he showed up to homers last launch I got teary eyed, when he past i think because or cancer, i got teary eyed lol. i rate this movie a 10 out of 10.
+dablocishot77 he died of black lung disease, miss Riley said I don't these kids breathing in coal dust for the rest of their life's that's what she was talking about
It's sheer beauty, that's why and like you, it's in my guts and heart. One of the melodies reminds me of Homer, going down the elevator into the coal mountain...but looking up and seeing a comet/satellite and heartbroken that his dream *was* up there. But the true heart is the end....when this music is playing very solemnly, and Homer's Father launches the final rocket. The whole town stops to see it....Homer's Dad puts his arm around him finally being proud of Homer and accepting his accomplishment.
*Homer Hickam Jr.:* You know the rocket won't fly unless someone pushes the button. It's yours if you want it. *Homer Hickam Sr. pushes the button* *The rocket "Miss Riley" (Auk XXXI) blasts off soaring to 30,000 feet* *Homer Hickam Sr. puts his arm around his son's arm finally showing how proud he is*
This music... and the movie that goes with it is so beautiful . It makes you think that there is still hope in this god-forsaken world.....................
You know Dad...it wont fly unless someone pushes the button...she's yours if you want it. And it's at that point someone starts cutting onions every time I watch this movie
As a musician , what you see is a conversation between fingers and soul, I never could read sheet music but I can play whatever I feel, and I feel this!
October Sky is an amazing film and the soundtrack is very touching. I want this to be played at my funeral because of it's beauty. Keep up the great work!!!
I am very grateful to this song and the film, so I got the school's first class scholarships and outstanding graduates, but this year's graduate entrance examination failed, ready to test again! Be the same as Homer!
Similar to Aaron Copeland's Appalachian Spring, certain music really captures the feel of fate filled mountain life, whether you're destined to break it's bind or end up having it break you.
whoever did the arrangement is awful. the first bit was way over each other. out of sync. Maybe its the players but it sounded like ass. then they all got together. amazing either way
Look at it go Homer. This one's gonna go for miles

It was definitely a satellite. Sputnik, impetus for the plot and sign that the sky is not the limit, only the beginning. My favorite scene.
Same here, and I mean who wouldn't? It's a beautiful song.
For our weddingceremony, we used this piece in place of the traditional wedding march.
One of the best movies ever made about life in my birth state, West Virginia ❤
Such an important and inspirational film. Go Homer!
