Nice purchase. Please do Not over complicate this car, stick to the KISS (keep it simple stupid) principle and you will get it ready and running great with not too much effort. Will be fun to make and for us watch episodes with just tackling all the issues on a list and work them off per episode. Keeps everyone motivated and shows more details. I love to see you run this Opel GT down the track.
My dad bought an Opel GT in 1986 when I was 5 or so. It was in and out of commission most of my life, but I did get to drive her some in high school and fell in love. Just a couple of years ago, after she sat in the garage for 20 years, he finally gave her to me. I've got her back on the road and I love it!
I have always like the looks of the Opal GT (mini Vette). That is a nice set up for drag racing in a vintage car. It's probably a handful on the track but a good driver should be able too tame it down the track. Good luck with it.
this looks like the old Rick Millard , from Rossville, Georgia, drag car from the late 1970's/ eighties. the car had a big block in it back in the day and he ran this car primarily at the brainard optimist drag strip in the chattanooga/ ringgold area.
I’ve studied Mr. Millard’s car pretty extensively because I thought the same thing. I have found some differences but still hopeful that it’s his old car.
I thought it was Rick Millards old car "Trac Man".. I remember Floyd Cheek ran a white opel gt also back then. I think Rick sold his opel when he bought the "Black Jack" roadster from Jack McAllister. ruclips.net/video/ZYh_59ZBHf0/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Love the Opel , my dad told me he wanted to buy one but found out my mom was pregnant with me & well... lol Keep on preserving history & thanks for sharing your obsession with us !
Awesome ! Maybe you guys could race the Sleeperdudes Pinto or Gremlin . That would be an awesome video . I bet that little Opel would get on down the track.
These are a great drag car. There was a blue and white one used to come to my track back in the '70's with a 454. I first thought that someone must have shrunk a Corvette!
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I had to tell you---about another Opel GT. A few years ago, I reconnected with old friends, who were part of our small group of dragsters in SW Pa. They ended up racing in Div 3 and retired there. Never a person to sit still, Joe decided to build an Opel GT street rod. 392 Hemi-powered. I have thought very highly of those little cars since they appeared and I really hope to see yours on the track!
That's really cool!! I wonder if Josh would be willing to put the Dollar Gentral or Grim up against it in a little friendly race, just for bragging rights 😁 Thanks for sharing!
Yes sir, that was Ernie Lankford. My dad and Wally Smith painted that car for him...it was a good running car and had a nice appearance. Ernie wishes he had never sold it...he's currently building another one.
That looks like one that ran at Greer SC back in the late 1980's, let me dig up some photos from back then at Greer. IIRC it ran in Quick 8. Car was red with WELD wheels and lexan SB chev, light car.
This car may have come out of Clarksville. Jeff (not sure what his last name was) built a car just like this for a guy in the Army. It started with a chassis kit. Was built around 96. Not sue if it that car or not. Color front suspension and a couple of other things look like it.
I've been digging around a little and have found some previous owners that had it here in the Chattanooga area in the early '90s. May not be the same car, but I appreciate any input I can get. Thanks!
Them Opeals are Awesome !! The "Rod-Shop" aka Wayne County Dodge run One for years, On yours i wonder Why they Didn't put the Batteries as far towards the passengers side, ?? It Look's like there in the Middle ?? Either way it Looks Great !! Im Serious if, you put it up for Sale Im INTRESTED !! Please let it be known cause im in. Fo Show..
I have a 72 in my garage. Got it for $500 maybe 5 years ago. It's stripped and rolls around the garage on a dolley. Has a roll cage, trans and rear were already rebuilt, came with an unfinished inline 6 cyl, 6 tires on 6 old school cragers....I gotta get to work on it. Has no front suspension. All metal except for fiberglassed flared wheel wells. Have spare glass, door and hood.
Hey will that opel ever come up for sale or trade in the near future? Got a 48 Austin a40 Devon that’s in about the same state the opel is in. running a hilborn injected 355 on methanol, powerglide 9” rear. runs drives and stops
Frank and Linda Mazi from Ohio, Jimmy Zakira, and Virgil Cates . I found pics on the net of Red Opal GTs with similar noses and round rear wheel well openings!
@HotRodHoarder thanks for the reply. Yes, it looks like the mazi car. First 2 bodies had rounded rear wheel wells. The current and 3rd body has elongated wheel wells. My friend Tom Joblinski bought that car 3rd body around 85. Unfortunately he has passed away and I now own that car. He put the God of Hellfire lettering on it, and that is how it is currently painted. The current engine is a 426 injected, lenco and still Dana60. When I am able, I will bring it back out for everyone to see
@@HotRodHoarder basically the place we've got here refuses to sell parts on a bunch of old cars that they have over the hill but they won't sell the complete Cars either because of legal reasons or so they claim. I'm not looking for anything that is insanely hard to find. Just need a couple of parts to get my 63 Lemans back on the road.
@@HotRodHoarder I'm certain by the time you get it tuned to run a 1/4 or 1/8 mile, that old Ford 9" and four link are gonna put all of that Small block to the ground, save maybe 50hp in drive line. No matter what can't wait to see what she does.
I don't see junk, my friend. I see a whole lot of treasures. Awesome little Opel that burnout was sick. 💪
Definitely a lot of treasure...some of its junk though haha.

Love the sound of the engine! Got something to be proud of. Thank you for sharing this car.
💯👍👊
Thanks for watching Terry!
Probably my favorite HRH video to date. I want to see her on the track in the spring
Thank you! I’ll be sure to post about our progress.
I always wanted a little steel stingray, but I just couldn't catch a break at the right time. You guys enjoy your adventure.

Glenn mcCary also had an open gt back in the 80s or 90s

Love them opel gt had 5 of them back in the day rebuilt them all took years to redo but loved every minute of it
Wow, very cool! Hardly ever see them on the road or at the drag strip any more.
I remember watching that burn out episode, congratulations on your acquisition, have fun 🤩
Thanks for always tuning in!
Sounds GREAT!
Thank you!

One of my favorite body styles for a drag car…the proportions are perfect!
Love it
You need to put some big meats on one of your cars so we can have a fair race.
Denny is a great guy!! I was at the burn out in Pikeville. I wish it still happened.
Yes sir, he's one of the best!
Definitely, would be a great toy, for the Dragstrip, maybe local car show!!!!!!
Very cool. Hope you can get the Opel to the drag strip in the future.
Thank you! We're looking forward to it!

oh that thing sounds great! so glad you got a runner for a change, love your archiving but theres somethin about a runner..
Oh yeah, it's a good feeling to have one that'll run and drive under its own power.
Looks like a lot of fun there horder should be a blast to drive sounds really healthy B careful
Hopefully we can make it a little safer and go have some fun!
Cool car!
Known back in the day as the poor man's Corvette. My older brother bought a new one when he came home from Vietnam.
Also known as a Baby Vette
Or a K Mart Vette .
K-Mart Vette is funny. I like that.
Yes sir! They are super neat cars…hardly ever see them any more.
Those Opels are way cool.
I’ve always been a big fan and thrilled to have this one in the shop.
We calld them SidewalkVettes..we hept a Fren build one wit a blown 350ci.. fun (dangerously so) leetl ride
Looking forward to watching it go down the strip. It sounds pretty rowdy.
It should be a lot of fun!
But what if its not?............. LOL!!
Have fun,Keep us posted.@@HotRodHoarder

The Opel is yet another keeper in our collection. No intentions to sell this one.
My aunt had one back in the day called misty mountain top it was BADASS
Nice!
power to weight ratio on that must be intense
The little 327 probably isn’t going to break any records but the super light body should help is scoot right along!
Frank and Linda Mazi from Ohio, Jimmy Zakira, and Virgil Cates . I found pics on the net of Red Opal GTs with similar noses and round rear wheel well openings!
Definitely not the Oddy , Mazi car. It is a steel body car with a fiberglass nose. Cool car though
I have a nice collection of Opel drag car pictures…one day I’ll find a match.

I raced at Norwalk in the late 80s. Frank and Linda had a 3rd gen firebird by then.
Do you by chance have any good junkyards near you? There aren't any here that are worth a damn and I need some parts for a 63 Lemans two-door.
The old junkyards are going away quick! Some of them still exist, but many of the old junkyards no longer sell parts.

Tommy please bring the opel to shown go or brainerd!
Please bracket race it some !!
We may try to do that. I'm sure it would be good for that...light weight, not a tremendous amount of power...it would probably be pretty consistent.
That harness bar is sketchy too thats gotta get fixed! Its gotta be one piece. Find someone to bend yall up one and replace that.
Yeah that’s probably the most alarming issue on the car.
Those look like 1977-1981 formula scoops in nose
👍🇺🇸
Thank you for watching!
It looks like the car Rick Millard ran years ago
my dad used to have an opel gt he wanted to use for this hung from the roof of his shop but we ended up hauling it off for scrap
Ahh man! I’d say the majority of Opel GT’s have been scrapped. Hardly ever see them any more.
The good old days that's what Jimmy oddy ran out of gorden automotive except he had a big block Chevy with a blower 😊
Big block chevy with a blower would be nice!
