    The NBA decides how they officiate games. They made a conscious decision to completely reinterpret a bunch of the rules of the game in favor of the offense. The current iteration of the NBA is an embarrassment and it has more to do with the NBA's perception of Millennials then millennials themselves.

    • @bb1111116
      @bb1111116 Месяц назад +4

      Yes, the NBA changed the rules. But why? I think it was to appeal to casual fans, including international casual fans, who want to see more fast breaks and 3 point shots.

      @@bb1111116the problem with this assessment is that the casual fan who gets what you've described in a game, gets bored. The NBA all star game this season is an example. No defense and chucking up 3's to score 211 points. The fans looked bored in the stands. Why? Because there's no defense being played. You can give a fan/person what they want but it doesn't mean what you have given them is a good thing to get.

      Spoken like a narcissistic Millennial, blaming everyone but themselves. Ever heard of this thing called the National Basketball Players Association? If the players don't like something the NBA front office is doing, that's why they have a UNION. They can stop all of the reinterpreting of the rules any time they want.

    I like the long shot vs dropping it down to a big guy who plows over the person defending him. And so they started doubling the big man and they would kick it out to a 3 pt shot a lot. So the trend of the 3pt shot has been a long time coming....it wasn't all of the sudden. The further the shot, the harder it gets to make. I think it's great and I watched Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Kareem, Olajuwon, Kobe, and the 3 pointer was becoming more and more significant in winning big games. If they doubled your big man, kick it out and sink the 3. It was a huge factor.
    Now you come down the court and come off a screen to shoot the 3. It's amazing how much they make it. Maybe back it up another 1 foot but defensive grinds can be boring to watch. It's hard to appreciate hard fought points in the paint denied unless you've played the game. And it's about winning. America and even the world forget quickly who finished 2nd place.

That’s when guys like Fouts, Montana, the 83 draft class ushered in a new era of the sport. Teams adapt to these changes and evolve their strategies accordingly. No different in basketball. What's wrong with 3 pointers?

    • @kellykarcher7179
      @kellykarcher7179 Месяц назад

      Are you kidding? Everything is wrong with 3 pointers! There is hardly any interior game of posting up the defender, driving to the hoop, or mid-range jump shots. There are way too many 3-pointers taken (and missed) and it has made the game completely repetitive and boring. Plus, there is hardly any defense being played. This is why the scoring is astronomical now! The game has been completely watered down and as a result, the TV ratings have plummeted...

    The players are more talented but damn there is no concept of defense in the NBA and the players also don’t bother to play it
    The games are also damn near exhibition games like the All Star Game.
    They need to get the refs be less lenient on the foul calling and allow some toughness back into the game

  • @MrGarysugarman
    @MrGarysugarman Месяц назад

    He blames the players then reels off reasons that have to do with the commissioner, league officials and coaches. The players can only play the game according to the rules set out for them. "Defense is different." -- Euphemism of the week.

    NBA overcompensated when they cracked down on the rough & tumble era highlighted by the Detroit Pistons "bad boys". The owners wanted it b/c they didn't want their mega earning players to get injured by teams like Detroit that had no layups rule, they would absolute hammer you and tackle you like the NFL to not give up an easy shot. NFL has done the same thing, you can't touch a QB hardly without getting a roughing the passer. Even if a QB runs the defense has to go 3/4 speed b/c if they slide at the last second and you touch them it;s a personal foul.

  • @believe1335

    Too much scoring to the point where it’s expected for a superstar to score 100 points. There’s no excitement because defense is no longer the foundation. Athletes are getting more talented now and that’s okay. NBA just needs to be creative in finding ways to make the game exciting and competitive again. It’s not by scoring 100 points because it’s saturated now. Probably make the court bigger and create a four point shot.

    By Bob's logic The Patriots would be the current "America's Team" to be supplanted by the chiefs. Best QB - (was Tom Brady during their run) - check. Number of Super Bowls that have been to: (from 2001-2019 9 appearances 6 wins). The trump card for me is that after September 11 2001 - a year when we were hurt and healing as a nation - The Patriots win over a superior opponent through grit, teamwork & being smart/wily.

    The NBA is unwatchable. Especially the playoffs. After this play-in stuff, 1st round should be best of 3, 2nd round best of 5, then your best of 7. There's no urgency.

    Bob Costas was more than patient with Gayle! She loves to interrupt, she knows nothing of the history of the NBA, she's there it seems to throw a different opinion into the fire for reaction. Hatorade??? No, Sir Charles & Bob Costas lived it. The league has gone 360° south in last decade. Gone are the mid-range artists. Defense at the 2024 All-Star Game was non-existent. And the abundance of recent 60 point scorers is not normal. Does that make them greater than the players from decades past? Those players revolutionized the game: Russell, Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Magic, Bird, Michael, Jabbar, Olajuwon. Sure every generation has its superstars, the last one with Steph, Durant & Lebron...But they're playing in a diluted league with 3-pointers by the dozens, no defense & no rivalries. The game is boring!!!

    I think Chuck has Millennials mixed up w Gen-Z … most Millennials are in our mid/late 30s to 40s now! Yes, he listed LeBron, who is a Millennial, but he played against Gen-X players for the majority of his career & was dominant back then too!
    & As a Pats fan, let me know when the Chiefs have a dominant 20 year reign …

      Millennial generation is from '81-'95. The youngest millennial is 29 while the oldest is 43. I would say the millennial generation did start the 3-point chucking era considering Steph Curry started this current era and he is a Millennials. Gen Z has now taken it to the next level of 3-point chucking.
