The best tips is NOT to come to Gotland! We have far too many tourists around 1 million every year and 700 000 every summer, and we are only about 70 000 living here permanently. The island is suffering very hard under the pressure of all these visitors and summerhouse owners. Islanders that have lived here for many, many generations cannot afford a house due to most houses being sold to rich people from the capital only using them for a few weeks every summer and also destroying hundreds of years old farmhouses when the renovate according to the latest trends...Nature is suffering under one million pair of feet tramping all over every year, to see the sights...people throwing garbage, making fires (even though it is forbidden) using what little water there is...This is a magic and beautiful place but it will not be anything left soon if we cannot get strict restrictions and regulations when it comes to tourism and who is allowed to by land here...And travel in itself is damaging Mother Earth...
