Loved The Martian. Gripping. I just finished The Archived -- all thanks to your recommendation. Not disappointed at all. What a wonderful reading month you had!
Great Wrap-Up! My favorite book that I read in July was probably The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson. I swear I want to pick up all of Sanderson's books now. He's a genius.
+Morgan Blanch True dat!! I just got The Way of Kings by him which is gigantic but I'm so excited!!! I want to get the rest of his books too. Like Warbreaker, Elantris, The Rithmatist, etc.
Sophie Luvs Books that's so funny, I read mistborn last month and I immediately bought the way of kings... it's sitting on my bookshelf currently because i need to prepare myself to read 1200 pages!
Oh no! I'm reading Where She Went right now. I'm only two chapters in but I definitely don't like it as much as If I Stay so far. I really wasn't expecting the perspective switch. On a brighter note, the Scott Pilgrim series is just about the greatest thing in the entire world and you will LOVE it. Especially if you enjoyed Seconds! If you do check it out, I definitely recommend the color versions over the black and white ones although it's fantastic both ways!!!
I totally agree with you on "Where She Went"... I can see how people like it, but I got confused and sometimes bored, but I did finish it and I did like the ending.
I literally lost my shit when you hit yourself in the face with Where She Went oh my gOODNESS. That little clip literally sums up my feelings every time I don't love a book that everyone else does xD
Yes, keep reading the Grisha series! I am so excited to see your reviews! I read Nimona this month and I THOUGHT IT WAS FABULOUS. GOSH JESSE, YOU READ BOOKS SO FAST THAT I WON'T BE SURPRISED IF THE CW MAKES A SUPERHERO SHOW OUT OF YOU. XD
Jesse I remember back in December you and Kat and Xtine read Blankets by Craig Thompson! he has another very big, hard back, bulky graphic novel like Blankets and it's called Habibi. it's a little bit darker and might be a little more explicit than Blankets, but it's still a really great one and I think you should definitely check it out!
I read The Martian last month, too. Loved it so much. Extremely satisfying. It definitely made into one of my all time favorites. It had been too long since I'd read a hard-science fiction novel that left me in a book hangover because of how awesome it was.
A middle grade book that's good is the 100 Cupboards Trilogy. It blew me away when I was younger and to this day it's shaped the way I think about some things.
Just finished The Grisha Trilogy and loved it!! I saw bummed that it was over. I really liked The Martian and yes some of it was over my head with the science and math details. But beyond that it was a great story.
I also just read Where She Went for the 7 in 7 Readathon I was also like that's it like you said it does nothing for the previous book. I currently have already read 4 novels this summer. I'm currently reading The Night Circus for Booktubeathon.
I read Second in July too and it took me by surprise! My favorite book of July was probably An Ember in the Ashes, but I also read the Lunar Chronicles which were SO GOOD!! I also am a huge dr Seuss fan and I loved your video for Oh the Places You'll go - that book has such a great message!
a middle grade series i am loving is the books of elsewhere by jacqueline west, book 1 called the shadows, it has really pretty illustrations, with talking cats!
My top three was Heir of Fire, Clockwork Princess and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (thank you for recommending it, it was PHENOMENAL). I read 6 in total but I just couldn't choose between these three.
Just bought Gotham Academy over the weekend and it is SO GREAT. I'm especially excited about it as a Batman fan since there are so many character name-drops, references, and cameos (and that ending aaahh!). I'm collecting the issues now because I just can't wait for the next volume!
Just finished Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children (mostly because you recommend it) and LOVED it!! It was so different and interesting! I couldn't stop reading it!
I totally agree with you about The Martian! And my favorite book of the month was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban! It's my first time reading the HP books and I'm really enjoying them! :D
I haven't read Dr. Seuss in such a long time! I loved his books as a kid. I didn't read any of the books you read (I only managed two books), but my favorite book I read last month was probably "The Wrath and the Dawn" by Renee Ahdieh.
I loved The Martian! It was really interesting how the author speckled in facts and humor within the plot, even though I agree some parts could have been sped up.
I loved the girl with all the gifts too. I recently heard an interview with the author and he said that he wrote the book while simultaneously writing the screenplay for the film. So, I'm really looking forward to seeing this played out on screen.
my favorite book for the month of July was Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children...I know I'm late getting on the bandwagon but I seriously loved it and went out and bought Hollow City!
Other than listening to the majority of the Harry Potter audiobooks I only read two books in July which I loved pretty much equally; The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J Maas and The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E Pearson! Hoping to read a lot more this month!
I felt the whole point of If I Stay was to see if Mia decided to stay or to die, so I didn't understand why there is a second book. I still liked Where She Went but I didn't love it and as you said it didn't bring much to If I Stay. Your videos are really great thank you very much !
The Girl With All The Gifts is one of my favourite books, I'm glad it's getting some booktube recognition and that you enjoyed it. :) I also picked up Nimona from the library a couple days, I'm really excited to read it!! Unfortunately I accidentally called it pneumonia to my librarian.....awk. hahaha
I read Where She Went hoping to love it because it had really good reviews... But it didn't happen I felt exactly the same that you describe... I understand what you are talking about I just felt the same. I love your videos JESSETHEREADER!
Woah, kudos to you! You read so much in July! My favourite book I read in July was "The Silmarillion" by Tolkien. I am still in awe, it was so beautiful
My favorite book in the month of July was Dear Killer. Amazing, dark, nerve racking, philosophical; a psychological thriller and then some. Just trust me, read it. five out of five stars
Scott Pilgram is one of my favorite graphic novel series(6 issues total) and one that I always recommend to people who want to start reading them. It's super good! The art is adorable, the story is interesting, and the dialogue is hilarious! Everyone should read Scott Pilgram!
I really liked The Martian! Also, if you want a really good middle grade novel, you should definitely pick up The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester. It's so good. Seriously. Not enough people know about it. Also, there's finally a sequel coming this October. Only seven years after the first one came out.
I read If I Stay and Where She Went and I didn't like either of them, I thought Where She Went was marginally better though. I also read I Was Here which I thought was a little better than that duology but I'm not going to read any more books by Gayle Forman.
I haven't read any of these books as of yet, but The Girl With All The Gifts just went onto my TBR list. I don't know what my favorite book for July was...I read a few YA books and a classic, and think my favorite was the classic. Puddin'head Wilson by Mark Twain. It actually had me laughing out loud.
Inspired by the amount you read this month! I'm still struggling through "lock in " by John scalzi. It's marketed as a thriller but literally nothing thrilling is happening. I get my bookish fix at the school library I'm a librarian at... Today I got to draw a giant Matilda ...it was only appropriate as my favorite children's book :)
You're not alone with where she went ! Except I didn't like if I stay either ... But that's the beauty of readers ! Everyone is different :) great video !
the best book I read this month has to be "The Echo Chamber" by Luke Williams. It's about a girl named Evie who is completely 100% aware of her surroundings since she was inside the womb and has the ability to hear any and every sound. The story is written as if Evie is writing her own memoir. The most important parts of her life.
so many books! i really want to read faking normal it sounds intense! the martian was amazing! i listened to it last month and holy moly that was intense. I definitely agree some of the science talk i felt was unnecessary! god everyone is talking about miss marvel i should really pick it up
My theatre class put on a prodution of Seconds as a Musical and Seeing it brings back so much stress in my life, i liked the book, but oh my goodness the stress.
My favorite book of July was definitely Cress! I marathoned the Lunar Chronicles in July. My new addiction... Can't wait for Winter! I definitely check out the Martian because here in Czech Republic everyone is reading it but no one actually talks about it on Booktube which is weird. xD
Some things went over my head too don't worry lol. When me and my boyfriend were reading it together, I had to ask him all the science related questions since he understood what Mark Watney was talking about when it came to gases and such lol.
Book tubing skills ON POINT! how in the world did you read that many books? Yer a wizard Jesse! "boy you need to chill." LOLOL The Girl With All The Gifts needs to be on my shelf.... like now. aaah I need Seconds too! It has been calling my name. NIMONA TOO! okay i just need them all my favorite book In July was The whole selection shindig because GAH! Awesome video Jesse :)
I read where she went and I hated it. I hated if I stay too but the ending was a cliffhanger so I read where she went straight away and it picks up 3 years later and just :((
Deanna Hall Comic books are usually an ongoing series, they also tend to come out weekly. Graphic novels are a complete story arc. Does that makes sense?
Faking normal sounds so good! Defiantly gonna order it from the library right now! Hahaha omg Jesse I died when you threw Where She Went at your head!😂😂👌 Are you okay??
And Noelle Stevenson has a graphic novel series coming out in 2017 called 4 Wizards
TeaLeavesAndBookBindings YASSS I'M SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS.

+Morgan Blanch
True dat!!

I really enjoyed Gotham Academy! I want a tv adaption. It'd be so fun!
I literally lost my shit when you hit yourself in the face with Where She Went oh my gOODNESS. That little clip literally sums up my feelings every time I don't love a book that everyone else does xD
I'm going to give THE MARTIAN another chance. And great mix of adult/YA/genre! ^_^
XD
I totally agree about Where She Went! I expected different
Jesse your bookshelves are goals!! Love you.
You are one of my favorite BookTubers. You are just so energizing and electrifying to watch please don't ever change that.
I loved Scott Pilgrim! It takes place in Toronto and I don't live far from there.😂
I didn't really like Where She Went either. Totally agree with everything you said about it. The Girl With All The Gifts sounds really interesting!
Jesse your bookshelf(ves) is goals! I'm working on my collection.
Jesse I remember back in December you and Kat and Xtine read Blankets by Craig Thompson!

aaa yes the martian was amazing!!!! i luv how sciencey it was & the funny diary entries!!!!
Loved, loved, loved The Martian! Totally one of my favourite books this year so far.
A middle grade book that's good is the 100 Cupboards Trilogy. It blew me away when I was younger and to this day it's shaped the way I think about some things.
I read 12 books this month which amazed me! I read fantasy the whole month and a couple contemps!
i read where she went and i thought it was amazing and yeah i agree with you on Adam's attitude within this book jessethereader

I listened to 'The Martian' as an audio book and love love loved it! Now going to buy myself the hard copy as well to see if I enjoy it as much
Just finished The Grisha Trilogy and loved it!! I saw bummed that it was over. I really liked The Martian and yes some of it was over my head with the science and math details. But beyond that it was a great story.

My favorite book I read in July was probably Rebel Belle. I bought it a while back and finally had the chance to read it and I loved it!
Nimona is so amazing. I followed it as a webcomic and it just crushes your heart.
a middle grade series i am loving is the books of elsewhere by jacqueline west, book 1 called the shadows, it has really pretty illustrations, with talking cats!

Pretty much felt the same about Shadow and Bone.
I need to get my hands on that J. K. Rowling speech!
I haven't read Dr. Seuss in such a long time! I loved his books as a kid.
I didn't read any of the books you read (I only managed two books), but my favorite book I read last month was probably "The Wrath and the Dawn" by Renee Ahdieh.

GAH! I just got Shadow and Bone and I am way to excited!
I completely agree about The Martian's trailer. I watched the trailer before reading the book and felt really spoiled. :(
I got to get together and read more. I've only read 57 books so far this year and only one so far in August.
Hahha when you threw the book at your face - laughed so much! I absolutely get the feeling of not liking a book that everyone else seems to love
Other than listening to the majority of the Harry Potter audiobooks I only read two books in July which I loved pretty much equally; The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J Maas and The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E Pearson!
Hoping to read a lot more this month!
Great wrap-up! It's nice to see you read variety of books. :D
I've heard such amazing things about Shadow and Bone. Glad you liked it, but it was nice to have someone temper my expectations a bit!
I liked the book but it definitely is overhyped! Just keep that in mind haha.
So many books... Wow
Dang you read a lot in July! I was looking for my next graphic novel read, so I'll have to pick those two up!

Did anyone count the number of books he read? Posting at 6:55 so, don't know if he mentions it by the end :D
the best moment was when you threw the book at your face 😂
I've spent like £40 on books in the past couple weeks and now I feel I will be spending more... DAMN YOU JESSE
Leanne Violet McMaster SORRY!
Some things went over my head too don't worry lol. When me and my boyfriend were reading it together, I had to ask him all the science related questions since he understood what Mark Watney was talking about when it came to gases and such lol.

Completely understand your feelings about Where She Went. It just didn't add anything important. Or anything at all really.
i love young avengers so much!!!!
sydney c it's so good!
I didn't really like Where She Went either, I agree with everything you say about it here.
I don't mean to be ignorant but can someone explain to me the difference between graphic novels and comic books 😬
Deanna Hall Comic books are usually an ongoing series, they also tend to come out weekly. Graphic novels are a complete story arc. Does that makes sense?
The comics and graphic novels had me wanting to run to the bookstore right this very second
Faking normal sounds so good! Defiantly gonna order it from the library right now! Hahaha omg Jesse I died when you threw Where She Went at your head!😂😂👌 Are you okay??
I was halfway through The Martian when the trailer came out and it totally spoiled it!! Still loved the book, though.
You should try Pretty Deadly by Kelly Sue Deconnick or Through The Wods By Emily Caroll. Reaally good graphic novels\comics.
