An average guy here in Donegal went to Medugorje and had a wonderful conversion so much so that he became a priest. He was renowned for his fasting and long hours of prayer and even became an exorcist. Some would say he died as a Saint.

Fatima was a true apparition, as was La Salette and to Marie Julie Jahenny , all times Our Lady only gave serious messages, not tripe every day. They said a fetus gets a soul at four and a half months, and tried to do away with the dogma of the Catholic Church that outside the Church there is no salvation . But then this was what Fatima was about, Vatican II and the apostasy that would begin at the top. Today most Catholics who went along believe in nothing the Church taught as essential Catholic truth.
I get sceptical when “ visionaries” make lots of money from miracles.

J.M.J. I was there in 1988, my eyes cannot unsee what I saw, it is from God, scores of thousands of Confessions, conversions, graces are bestowed on the millions that have gone to visit in the 35 years or so, since the beginning. I was blessed to be there, and be the Altar Boy for our Masses.
I understand that most of the priests hearing Confessions at Medjurgorje did not have faculties from the local bishop. That makes these Confessions invalid and illicit, null and void.
I was there in 1998. I saw people fabricating "miracles", assuming authenticity and visionaries holding Mary to their schedule. What I saw was good people being duped and the locals getting rich with religious gift shops and tourism of the backs of well meaning yet nieve faithful. I also so the effects of genocide and ethnic hatred between serbs and croats. This site is only made possible by the disobedience of missionaries sent behind the iron curtain. The spirit of fornication is rampant there.

I was there in Medjugorje in 1987, one year before you. I went six years after the first apparitions started fearing that they would cease any time, and I wanted to be testimony. I was testimony of a primitive way of life by the local peasants, and maybe the Virgin Mary did appear, and I was happy. Thirty four (yes 34) years after my 1987 pilgrimage the apparitions have not stopped. The Madonna supposedly appeared over 14,000 times repeating messages over and over again. In the meantime Medjugorje has become a den of thieves and businesses. Now I have very serious doubts, while remaining Catholic nevertheless.

Don’t be deceived yes the devil can try to manipulate and play with their emotions because there’s so many things more evil going on there. One priest said that if sending one email he can convert the world to The One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church but by doing so he has to be disobedient to his superiors, he said it’s better to not convert the world in that way. The Franciscans in medjugorje are disobeying the local bishops, so even though there are healings, conversion it doesn’t matter because this is not the will of God. And also it’s demonic inspired. What religion or sect of Christianity do you believe is the true church of Jesus Christ? I am very open and interested in hearing your views, arguments, and would even consider converting to your suggested Religion. Then again it is your duty to evangelize me.
This is similar to Garabandal. There is something that is holding back the church from approving these apparitions. However, they are not condemning them so anyone is free to go there.

Bayside New York apparitions were deemed not worthy of belief but I coverted back into my Catholic Faith because of my belief in it. I don't believe it anymore. My point is it isnt enough to say "you will know them by their fruit" because many conversions happened because of Bayside. Furthermore other factors play into a person's conversion, like good will of the converted and the Holy Eucharist which is the main part of our faith i have been a good practicing Catholic for 35 years and prayed my rosary and recieve the Eucharist daily. I conclude that God is ever Present that the Blessed Mother exists ASIDE from and DESPITE an alleged Apparition and we must put our faith in that truth. Our prayers reach heaven whereever we are.

Amen. I think there is an issue with discernment. People will look at the fruit of conversions, but then purposely ignore the bad fruit of the alleged seers. Someone seeing the beautiful scene of many people praying the rosary and taking their faith seriously is a powerful conversion tool. But if a blind surgeon somehow helped us heal, it doesn't change the fact that the surgeon should have disclosed his blindness rather than risk the operation.
The seers have become filthy rich and live extravagant lifestyles. The whole town knows it, but hardly speak of it in public because they all benefit financially from the tourism. The seers also asked for donations to build a retreat house which was used to build a for profit four star hotel. They have finally stopped receiving messages because they ran out of steam being creative. If you look at the original priest involved, it had a huge political angle. The whole thing is a mess.
I cannot pretend that I am not happy that people convert from going there. However, I also cannot claim that I want people to be misled for the chance to convert, since Christ will find a way to convert those who are ready - and does not need false apparitions to do so.

Something I find most interesting about these visions and visionaries is that one claims the Holy Mother has given her, the visionary, an actual physical document on which is written 10 prophecies. The document is not on paper as we know it to be. The document is to be kept secret from the world until such time as the visionary is directed to share a prophecy that is ripe for realization with a priest of the visionary's choosing, with the understanding that the priest will then inform the world. But no one can see this document or read it. Not even our Pope, the Vicar of Christ on earth, the one leader of the church who sits in Peter's chair. So different and unlike other visions and visitations. So different from Lourdes and Fatima.
In her book “my heart will triumph” Mirjana says herself if the holy father ever asked to read the scroll she could not deny him. She would allow the Pope to read if he asked. He has NOT.
@@jessicabarker6721 I am encouraged that she would. That was not something revealed in any of the information I read, though I have not read or researched very much about it. I am less encouraged that none of the Popes have asked her to share her story. For my part, when it comes to my attention, like right now after reading your comments, I just say a short prayer to the Father and Son and Holy Spirit, to the Holy Mother, that God's will be done, that the truth be revealed in His time according to His plan, and I thank them all for the way these happenings have inspired and renewed the faith of so many.

He believed her and a month before the apparitions started he had prayed to the Blessed Virgin to begin appearing on earth specifically in a communist country. He knew he needed her help with converting the world. He believed the visions in Medjugorje were an answer to his prayer.

Well, their still is a Catholic presence there. But not because of the alleged apparitions.
Again it's the Sacraments and the faithful that practice the Faith.
I guess you could look at the worth of the Vatican before one questions the worth of Medjugorje.
The Vatican never acts right away on the request of our Virgin Mother, look how long it has taken them to consecrate Russia, now because of the war and after so many innocents have died, they are willing to do it. I went there in 1998 and have studied since. As a result of that study, I am now a seminarian working on my 6th degree. On my trip, I saw people fabricating "miracles", assuming authenticity ahead of the authority of the Church, and visionaries curiously holding Mary to their schedule and proclaiming cyclical messages that when followed for a short time appear to say the same things over and over. I also saw good people being duped by no fault of their own into believing falsehoods and the locals getting rich with religious gift shops and tourism on the backs of the same well meaning yet nieve faithful. I also saw the effects of genocide and ethnic discrimination between serbs and croats which played a critical part in the creation of this site. This site was only made possible by a combination of the divergence of missionaries sent in isolation behind the iron curtain who groomed "seers" as children. The spirit of fornication is rampant as many I know who have visited there return to live conjugal lives out of wedlock. As many good fruits can be attributed to faith and the Holy Spirit, as many, or more rotten ones can be attributed to the disobedience of proponents who rationalize this site as authentic ahead of due diligence. The cultural and ethnic tensions of the region fuel a distrust of the Church authority and treats it as if it is the Communist government. All the Bishops appointed in Medjugorje to include the conference of the Yugoslavian Bishops have all concluded there is nothing supernatural happening there. The local ordinaries have spoken from the pulpit there and been arbitrarily dismissed as nothing more than a figurehead. Nevertheless, the phenomenon continues unabated. Why is that one may ask? The proponents of the site myopically twist every explainable circumstance toward a self proclaimed ratification of the site. This fact alone should be enough to discredit their claims. That it does not, has something to say for a pilgrims need to believe blindly. I am sure God loves them and like myself, will reward their pursuits for truth with discernment and understanding as they move forward. None of this, ratifies Mary has actually appeared in Medjugorje or continues to do so at for Mirjana (who has purchased a Hotel and sanctioned illicit and thus invalid confirmations of children by a defrocked priest despite the pleading of the local Bishop not to do so) and for Vicka at her house where pilgrims gather or for Ivan whenever he chooses while on illicit tour of parishes in the US for which he was banned by the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, to support his luxurious mansion near Boston, Mass where he lives for 6 months of the year.
Lastly, lest we forget the priest who initially groomed the children seers, Fr. Tomislav Vlašić, who was called to obedience by Rome after impregnating a nun and instead choose to renounce the priesthood. This claim has born no vocations in any of the seers as it has in other site approved by the Church. While I have been on many a pilgrimage and retreat, my own vocation has come as a result of not only faith and reason but obedience to the Church and her teachings. Not my visit to any one place. My conversion began with baptism and my reversion began before my trip.

My mom introduced me to Medjugorje many years ago. At first, I naively believed it and enthusiastically followed the apparitions and messages and fasted and prayed. I soon realized that the monthly messages are simple and repetitive. And I found it odd that they recommend fasting on bread and water, as I come from a culture that traditionally don't eat bread. I still do water fast every once in a while. It also struck me odd that apparitions continue over many decades, unlike the ones in Fatima and Lourdes. And I've taken my late father to both Fatima and Lourdes on a pilgrimage. Pope Francis is speaking common sense here.
I believed that Our Lady appeared to the children at Lourdes, didn't she say this was her last message to the world? Or was it there at medjugorje? I cannot comment as I have no expert knowledge on the subject. I'd love your opinion on the Rosary as a result of your honest opinion mentioned above
Good for you. I never been there but thought the messages were legit. Came to find out these poor kids put false words in Mary's mouth that she would never utter and that is heresy.
I appreciate this, I'm a recent revert after 30 years away, and many of the ladies at my church are big fans of Medjugorie, but I'm very skeptical. I've heard that the Blessed Virgin "almost dropped" the baby Jesus once, when a man startled the seer during a vision and that She said that God loved all religions equally.
I also heard about the sex scandal, the wealth amassed, and the lack of religious life among the seers that you spoke of. These all make me seriously doubt the authenticity of all of the apparitions.
I think the religious ferver can be explained by wishful thinking like prodestants have when they all fall down with Holy Spirit and speak in tongues for no reason. It makes a spectacle and tus can lead people to conversion.
Just listen to any exorcist, and they will tell you how good the devil is at manipulating our senses, especially our vision, and you can explain the so-called miracle of the sun.
Since I'm not required to believe in Medjugorie by the vatican, I will stick to fatima or lourdes.
I already pray the rosary daily, so I don't need a reminder from Medjugorie.

I went there with my dear late father 1999, my father sat in Father Joso's chair..that church had fire from heaven come down, I could almost see it..I shook Visca's hand and it was electric - literally - I felt an electric current - I walked the hill where Mary fist appeared there to the children..barefoot, stopping at each station of the cross doing the Rosary. When I returned to the UK at the coach station was when I experienced "the Love", the most sweet, faith affirming love, I felt like a small child.
Never under estimate Our Blessed Mother ! She continues to bring souls to her son !
Why in the world would you believe this heresy? The Catholic Church is the ONLY entity that elevates created human beings particularly Mary into having something to do with salvation. Gavin Grinny I’m not sure what you mean. The New Testament is translated into English in many ways and brings the same message. Catholicism made up additional doctrine that minimizes Jesus and elevates created human beings and ignores what Paul said, “ To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” when describing death of Jesus’s followers. (Just to name a couple of issues).

I think the Pope is only being cautious about encouraging a sort of "dependence" on Medugorje... I think his main concern is that especially new converts will be Medugorje-centred, rather than Bible or Church-centred. I too was converted at Medugorje, but my faith isn't dependant on the continuous messages from the Madonna (but in the beginning, it was!!)
I think we have to see the ongoing apparations in a different light from those of Lourdes an Fatima and Kibeho. We live in the age of electronic and social media... and if the Madonna had only appeared 5 or 6 times, people might have long forgotten about Her appearance & messages!!!!
So it's no coincidence that God chose this moment in time, where He knew that the messages would be translated and transmitted throughout the entire world in a matter of a few hours!! These messages from the Madonna have been drawing people to Medugorje from literally all parts of the world -- and whatever criticisms anyone might want to make, there is, as Pope Francis also admitted, NO DENYING the millions of conversions!!
We all know that the Catholic Church is very much under attack from within and without. Many churches, tragically, have been destroyed or turned into museums or whatever, and millions have become lukewarm or abandoned the faith!!
Honestly, without help from our most loving Mother of God.... where would we be???

I think those that are corrupting the church would not want these kinds of messages known. Is the pope part of the corruption? That's for each of us to pray about.
I used to be strongly against Medjugorje ( i am now all for it). But it was the fact that pope francis was against Medjugorje that started making me think that maybe Medjugorje is legitimate. Funny old world! :-)

Asked by journalists about the alleged appearance of the Virgin Mary at Medjugorje, Pope Francis said the original apparitions more than three decades ago deserve further study, but voiced doubt in the supposed ongoing visions.
He stressed the need to distinguish between the two sets of apparitions, referencing a report submitted to the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith by a commission set up to study the apparitions by Benedict XVI in 2010.
“The first apparitions, which were to children, the report more or less says that these need to continue being studied,” he said, but as for “presumed current apparitions, the report has its doubts.”
“I personally am more suspicious, I prefer the Madonna as Mother, our Mother, and not a woman who’s the head of an office, who every day sends a message at a certain hour. This is not the Mother of Jesus. And these presumed apparitions don’t have a lot of value.”

It's so sad that he is so lost. One day, he will have to give an account when he is judged, in how many children he led astrayed. It makes me sad listening to the Pope say this too, because he was so quick to dismiss the apparitions as fake. He even says it himself that he is "more negative"..why? But the peace and joy, when all of those souls stood around me and you could just feel love, peace. What a world this could be if only everyone could experience such unity…..all love for GOD. The stories of conversion are impressive to me. I did feel the presence of God and the love of Our Lady, but it was the people standing together singing Ave MARIA! So sweetly. Nothing like it.

It would seem only natural for him to have been inclined towards Medugorje. I don't get the impression that our current Pope has quite the same understanding of the Holy Mother.
Pope Francis is still waiting for the report of the commission he sent to investigate further on Medjugorje apparitions. If the apparitions are authentic, surely sooner it will be authenticated. As far as I remember before the Church finally recognized a vision or apparition to be true, it ha to pass through rigid process of authentication. This is good for the church and her people. Personally, i believe the Medjugorje apparitions, based on the behavior of the visionaries, during and even after the visions. The Blessed Mother really knows how to treat her children to her son.

Our Blessed Mother is appearing in Medjugorje, it is true, too many conversions, that's the fruits. I personally saw a doubter's rosary beads turn to gold. My friend was a heroin addict, he saw the sun spinning after mass, he confessed to me that night with all humility whilst asking me not to think him crazy. When Christ arrived on earth, the Apostles and their followers had to some extent ,to go with their heart, to go what was in front of them! I am going to have to study more about Pope Francis. I am very cautious of him. The reason being is because he seems to be accommodating to the press. He seems to want to be more pleasing to the public than to state issues of our faith. He is beloved and Holy but I am not following how he thinks.

Why do Catholics require someone from the afterlife to get them to pray the Rosary and read the bible. That tells you afew things are lacking in the clergy, church heirarchy, laity. If you are deoendent on the modern church to save you, you may be damned. You should pray the Rosary, read the bible, love God and one another, put God first in your life and persevere to the end and you will get to Heaven.
