    Oregon is great as long as a person avoids Portland which has become rampant with crime and high taxation.

      Taxes are definitely high, and property crime has increased. However, Portland's violent crime rate is much less than that of most American cities.

    Well I don't know about anybody else, but I've lived in many States mostly in the South especially Florida as it's where I grew up! I am currently in the Boston area and it's not at all cracked up to what many people claims about how great it is when it actually sucks in every way! I've been to Portland twice and Washington once back in 2011, but just a short few minutes for work to drop a trailer off then head back on to a different State! I liked it out there just never moved there although my mom lived in Oregon for a couple years and many in Washington! I love the alligators, snakes, and different animals, but I also like snow and that sorta thing and can't live in both places at the same time! Oh well! I do here people talk a lot about homeless people and that situation, but truthfully that's everywhere really in every State just varies on how many! I hear others say they like it on the other hand! Guess it just depends on the person! Maybe I am wrong, you let me know!

      Awww I really appreciate that! Do you have any tips for making friends in Oregon? I heard that people are more introverted and I am an extrovert so not sure if this is true. I am in my early 20s for some context!!@@oregonhomeswithmariahcrawford

    • @oregonhomeswithmariahcrawford
      @oregonhomeswithmariahcrawford  10 месяцев назад +1

      ooh that is a good question!! I definitely see and know a good mix of introvert/extrovert personality types here which is refreshing. It could be said that there are more introverts here because when it is cold and gets dark out so early during the winter months a lot of people don't feel like leaving their homes haha. I would suggest checking out our local salem events on google and on Facebook! We have events going on every week at bars, restaurants, and businesses if you seek that out. Taproot for example is a restaurant and bar downtown that has trivia nights, live music, and other events on a frequent basis. Also joining some type of group, church, or community in the area based off of your own hobbies and interests could be helpful! There are things like that in our area based on different hobbies, values and interests you really just have to look for them. I hope that that helps! I would love to help you find a house when you get to the area :)

    We moved to Brookings in the end of 2022 from Upcountry Maui, sold my house and 150 acres of ranch land. I grew up there but my fiance was a pharmacist and they tried to force her to take a experimental drug ordered by biden admin that has since been SHOT down by the Supreme Court. And the state started charging people to go to the beach. No important roads ever got fixed. Homeless problem is exploding, my friend owns a bicycle shop in Makawao and druggie homeless burned his business to the ground. So we have an Estate here in Brookings and a ranch in the Redwoods for half the money and ten times the land. We Love Oregon.

    Facts:
    1. People who move from poor unsanitary conditions from out of state, have brought cochroaches with them and they spread quick.
    2. Certain states that are sunny and warm year round, aren't nearly as humid as Oregon, so you won't sweat as easy in dryer conditions.
    3. The air quality does get poor sometimes in the Valley areas of Oregon, especially during fire season, which has progressively gotten worse over the past 20 years.
    4. Oregon has had some category 3 to 4 tornadoes rip roofs completely off and flip over small cars. It's a rare occurrence but it happens.
    Also there has been plenty enough flooding along major and mid level rivers that have swallowed entire homes large and small. Anyone who builds or buys a home nearby any river, are foolish.
    5. Oregon has become far more crowded in the past 10 years, mostly from transplants from other states, causing major increase in rent, car registration, and other costs to keep up with the extra demand and maintainence.

    Southern Missouri has better weather, no bugs and cheaper to live in. It is just as beautiful in its own way. Still I may be moving back to PDX/Vancouver due to the political climate and west coast culture. Oh and tornado warnings in Branson are there every year ... Better to bet on not having a volcano go off (again) or ice storm (rare). Summer in oregon is like being in heaven.

    Looking into moving to Salem from Texas, wondering what the best areas for families are based on school and activities for littles? I'm being recommended south or west salem. We love outdoors, this is the main reason for moving.

    • @oregonhomeswithmariahcrawford
      @oregonhomeswithmariahcrawford  Год назад +1

      Hi there!! Aw that is awesome, very exciting. There are many great outdoor things to do in the area in all different directions surrounding Salem. As far as the best areas to live with littles goes, I would say South Salem definitely has the most amount of parks with many nice parks and playground all over. There are highly rated schools in South Salem also. We do see families moving to West Salem specifically for the schools as they have top rated schools as well. You’ll be able to get a little more home for your money in West Salem than in South Salem (South Salem has the highest average price point out of all of Salem but is also very desirable) but the biggest downside with West Salem is that you have to go over a bridge to get to the rest of Salem. Keizer is also a great family friendly town with many great neighborhoods (just north of Salem, super close & they share a school district). If you have any more questions I’m always happy to hop on a call! Feel free to reach out anytime! :) hope that helps.

      @@avancalledrupert5130 Look along coastal towns like Coos Bay, Florence or Newport if you are an independent contractor/handyman. There are a lot of retirement towns and people are hard set to find qualified reliable tradesmen. If you want to work for a construction company then you'd probably do better in Bend which is a little more populated and expanding.
