Couldn't understand what they were saying, but loved watching this bike being taken apart and photographed. Single cylinder, duel spark plugs, no throttle cable. This is a very unique and nice bike. Just wish I knew how much the price is new in the US. Great video.
I love the Duke 690, theres something about a single cylinder bike that gets me going.. I think because it reminds me of a street version of a dirtbike. I zoned out the entire time they were disassembling that bike, how dope!
Wonder why people pay more for a KTM than for a Japanese motorcycle without as good reliability? Answer : go ride à duke 690 for one hour, you will understand.
I live in Japan. There are very few KTM bikes. I want one of these, for sure, but they cost a lot of money here. All the reviews are good so far though.
De man die er hier aan sleutelt heeft me goed geholpen afgelopen weekend bij de pinksterraces te Oss. Zeer vriendelijke man! nogmaals bedankt! Maarten J.
How can we get a print of the final layout? I appreciate the work and attention to detail in getting it just right. A print of the final shot would make a nice poster for my garage!
Dylan McElveen I know a Dylan that isn't you. A certain Duke Ellington also has call on the 'Duke' name because the Ellington estate still makes money from it, unlike Mr Duke of Duke Engines. And Mr Ford? I know a Mr Ford. It's a common enough name. He has a business with Ford in the title - but he's allowed to because he doesn't manufacture motor vehicles. Getting the idea yet?
+Dylan McElveen Would have been nice to see. I was hoping it was not the old as the hills single overhead cam, duel valve, single cylinder thumper. Darn, nothin new here.
i do need this kind of video how to reassembly a KTM 530 EXC-R engine because i just have a puzzle 1000 parts on my desk, as the KTM dealer around my place was unable to do it properly !!
You answered it two hours ago. Thanks. The engine is in good condition after 20 000 kilometres. Also, do you recommend buying one of these bikes for use in the long term?
It's really a shame that they had to change from the Duke 3. The new Dukes are so underwhelming in the looks department. The engine is a bit updated but literally every other part on the bike is made cheaper. The kickstand, the headlight, the controls, the brakes, the suspension, the wheels, also the exhaust is no longer the awesome underslung exhaust. I guess they really tried to appeal to the masses with the Duke4.
Nice vid: "no remarkable signs of wear" NONETHELESS, there is something that have intrigued me about the all-new LC4 engine of the Duke 690: The MEAN PISTON SPEED at max. POWER (69hp@ 7,500rpm) is 4158.5 feet per minute. THAT'S A LOT for a stock bike! What I mean is that it implies a lot wearing on the engine even if you are not revving in the redline @7,800rpm (user's manual p. 48). What does it makes the LC4 engine reliable? Or is it just that the people wrecks their Dukes before 3-4 years?
love this bike but a lack of spare parts on ebay and if you have some of them is only for those who understand AUSTRIA language very bad may be this bike is not for worldwide guys before you buy a motorcycle it is very important to have a look of their parts first thank.
Thanks for the video. Maybe you could help me with a problem? My 2014 690 Enduro overheats within 4 miles & goes into "limp" mode or "failsafe" & has no power & sounds like the timing is retarded. It then gets hot quickly but no warning lights come on. I have checked the cooling system & it is functioning properly. Oddly the oil sight glass is empty & I am sure there is near 2 liters of oil in the motor. Could this be an oil pump failure? Any ideas would be appreciated.
+rockitboy8 First, you need to get more oil in it if it needs it. You need to be holding the bike straighten, not on the kickstand. Make sure the oil is between those two lines on the sight glass. Next, check your coolant level to make sure its topped off. Also make sure your thermostat and fan connections a properly plugged. Then remove your seat to get to the fuses. Firmly press ALL of your fuses down. This bike tends to vibrate the fuses out, I basically removed ALL of the original fuses and replaced with new because my brand new bike kept cutting off due to fuse issues. Basically, go through the entire bike to make sure all wires are properly fastened. Also, the original thermostat switch kicks on WAY too late. You will find that most folks change out the original thermostat to one that kicks on at a lower and SAFER temp. These are the first steps I would take before going to the dealer.
+Handy Man Thanks. I have had the thermostat out to check & it opens at 150F. Also had the impeller cover off & all looked good there. 1.7 liters is the stated oil capacity & usually puts the level half way up the sight glass. I have about 2 liters in it & it wont show with the bike level. That's what makes me think it may be an oil pump issue. From what I understand it has 2 pumps. One to lube the engine & one to lube the trans. I will reseat the fuses but I did test them already & they were all good.
+rockitboy8 I had two of the original fuses that appeared to be good, but were not functioning so I replaces all of them. I don't know if they had a hair line crack I could not see, but it did not show a blown/melted. I never tested them with a meter as I was on the road and swapping them did the trick. Fuses are cheap, it wouldn't hurt to replace them as silly as it may seem. As far as your oil level issue is concerned, I see where the pump MIGHT have gone bad, but I really don't see how a bad pump would hold oil somewhere to the point where it would change the level. My guess is that the pump is mechanical in these bikes so if it was bad you might see metal shavings in your oil. I know that when I change my oil and it all drains, if I tilt the bike from side to side (about 45 degrees) I always get an additional 6 to 8 ounces of oil out of it so it might be holding oil somewhere. The reason I changed all fuses is because the bike cut off on me 3 times on different days as I was on the highway. Good luck resolving this, let me know what you find out.
xaxaxa if KTM sell bikes only for mud, then it would be a closed company. ktm duke 2015 and other models are not for mud. just like the new rc390 which i have tested in real street on full throtle.
Couldn't understand what they were saying, but loved watching this bike being taken apart and photographed. Single cylinder, duel spark plugs, no throttle cable. This is a very unique and nice bike. Just wish I knew how much the price is new in the US. Great video.

i love my 2014 ktm Duke 690. had it for around three years now and thid video is something i have loved for far longer than i have had my bike.
Moving pieces of art, beautiful and good treatment
no! lot of moving parts means a lot of wear and tear
2 stroke ftw!
Wonder why people pay more for a KTM than for a Japanese motorcycle without as good reliability? Answer : go ride à duke 690 for one hour, you will understand.
Steel do better than Aluminium 😎

Such a lazer expertise in work....nobody can attain this kind of expertise ever in this world....like the germans do❤❤❤hats off to germans
i can't wait for this bike back to brazil in this year!
Where do you upload these awesome photos so we can steal them :D ?
Maybe write that the video is not in English in the title for next time?
I shall do that with this video when I have time. Thanks all for your great reactions! Marcus Kingma/Zeist/NL marcus@reismotor.nl
Marcus Kingma Really great video though! Why were you taking photos like this?
Lorin Pearce He works for Moto73, a Dutch motorcycle magazine where they do these kinds of tests frequently
Next time someone posts a video I'm English they should state that its in English.
How can we get a print of the final layout? I appreciate the work and attention to detail in getting it just right. A print of the final shot would make a nice poster for my garage!
Look at the size of that cylinder head.
A minha moto duke 690 em andamento privou pisto paritiu cilidro mais tinha oileo suficiente o k devo fazer para adquirr peças
It doesn't use a duke engine, why is it called a duke?

What do you want to do with this bike? For Fun? or going use it for big trips?
Mmmmmmmm! I just want one! Wait! There's one in my garage next to the 620. WooHoo! Seeya!
Eng subs would have been nice
Greve Comedian Yes
true that
So there was no problem with the motor that required teardown?
What type of cylinders bores, does the motor have, are they plated, or just liners ?
@bobby juraimi Omar
I think it would be very comlicated to get the Engine into the smaller 390. way Too expansive and very complex..
É o que há de melhor !!

The engine is in good condition after 20 000 kilometres.
Also, do you recommend buying one of these bikes for use in the long term?
20,000 km is barely broken-in for such a simple engine, it shouldn't look much different at 50,000 either.
It would be excellent if you include the vid with subtitle!!!!! All in all 👍
Amir Haris Mohd Azrin up
thank you for your show it is very interesting
So... good or bad?
4:51Warum zwei Zündkerzen? Why two spark plugs?
+gnezchen faster egnition. it would be to slow with one. too much fuel to egnite for one spark plug
I have a duke 390, how hard would it be to swap a 690 engine into it???
+Tom Worrall The 390 frame is too narrow for the 690 engine.
where is the link to the photo shoot?
i dont understand nl language!
is the engine in good shape after 20.000km or not?
hey guys! can i slot those engine into duke 390? sorry for English as i don't know to speak your language :)
i´m no mechanic, but i think its not possible
Too big.
Buy a 690?

memang 1 silinder je ke bro ktm ni...
Honda Africa Twin have done 450 000 km and still strong, without disasembling. I have a KTM and it's it the most problematical bike on the world.
5 KTM's so far, 0 issues. So to hear you have troubles. But the new african twin isn't without issues either.
And this how they service every bike
Здорово
For the money, it would want to have zero to minimal wear at 100k kilometres. I have a Duke 3, great bike but spares are astronomical in price.
i want 1290 Duke R :)
Motorbike engineering looks so easy for a quater an hour
What do you want to know?
Mooi Ducati shirt onder de sweater
love this bike but a lack of spare parts on ebay and if you have some of them is only for those who understand AUSTRIA language very bad may be this bike is not for worldwide guys before you buy a motorcycle it is very important to have a look of their parts first thank.
why did you demontage the bike?
Because they do Always with a longdistance tesbike
Marcus Kingma oh i thought it was broken because i got the 690 smcr 2013 with the same engine and was thinking you need a rebuild then
Nice

Kronreif-Trunkenpolz-Mattighofen short KTM is an austrian company, so learn German for it! xD

Что значит Duke? Обычный двигатель, напоминает китайский 139FMB , только с водяным охлаждением. А стоит, наверно, как 10 штук китайских мотыков...
