Hi, I bought the exact same engine and I am very happy with it. Since I have to replace the propeller, could you give me the right measurements: pitch and diameter? Thank you very much
I have the old Mercury too 83 model 90 hp electric start...they're great motors just a pain to cold start though but runs great and starts right up after it's warm
Someone dropped the leg to do the impeller and couldn’t align the shift rod. Rookies make for decent prices on these. Nice motor. I’ve got the 1995 9.9 and a ‘68 9.8
There should be some adjustment in the linkage, but for some reason the linkage on this motor was not lining up right, so I removed the neutral safety. I think the issue was that it had parts from different motors and there were some differences in the parts. The hood is from an electric start 9.8 and I’m assuming the other parts aren’t original too.
I believe it was around $100. I also addressed some other issues with it other than the carb and he had me asses another motor too. It probably would be more at a shop especially if it isn’t a simple idle mixture adjustment. If you aren’t comfortable working on it yourself, it’s best to find a smaller shop with a good reputation. Most normal shops/ dealerships won’t touch anything before 1990 and they are pretty reluctant to stock parts for smaller motors before the mid 2000’s.
That would worry me. Probably the best thing to do is to rent a compression tester from the auto parts store and check compression. 120 psi is a healthy motor, but if it’s below 80 or 90, the engine probably won’t run good. The fuel mix is 50:1 but I usually run them at 40:1.

I have 9.8 Getting ready to put in the shop
How did you fix the shifting lever? Got the same problem on the same motor that i just picked up with neutral being reverse

How to let it flee flow tilt
Do you mix gas and oil for this one? Can not find the instructions papers...
Yes. 50:1 tcw-3 oil.
@@tylerott9269 thank you. I've got it from a guy who never added the oil...
@@tylerott9269 the guy says he used it for 5 times only. Hope it is not so bad still.
@@Stan732 check compression on the motor
@@tylerott9269 the engine starts and works. I do not have the gauge to check the compression.
Do you order parts from Amazon?
This one did not need any parts. The carb was just really dirty. oldmercs.com is where I get most of my parts for Mercury’s.
2 stroke?
Yes
I just got the same one
They guy thought it was a 4 stoke
So I guess he hasn’t been mixing the gas 😬
