    One big reason so many other wood turners don't make it on Social Media is they don't have any showmanship. You do. You make wood turning exciting to watch.

    Great series. I learned so much and not just generally speaking, you helped me notice the details also. I really do enjoy the way you teach, instruct and guide as you go. Thank you. I am looking forward to seeing more. I am definitely saving this series to refer back to as I turn my own creations. The instructions apply to so much more than this single project.

    Tip; have a lot of experience with such burls, when they've been sitting around for years like this one it's like trying to turn a brick so I put them in a plastic bag and soak them in mineral oil for several days or even weeks which soften the fibers making them much easier on the tools not to mention the turner.

    I notice you have a small stop collar on the shank of your tool just above your quick release (love your quick release collars!). What is the purpose of that?

    Jimmy I love your work and have been a fan since seeing one of your DVDs.
    My only criticism would be on the camera work which was rather jittery... but then again, we get what we pay for.
    Cheers

    Mr. Clewes, I noticed you have multiple lathes, do you have a favorite or a preferred lathe? I am planning on getting a Laguna Revo 24/36 which is what I think you are using in this video.

    • @jimmyclewes
      @jimmyclewes  4 года назад +1

      The Laguna is good choice , and good price , considering what we had 30 yrs ago it’s like a Rolls Royce.
      You won’t go far wrong with this lathe mate.

    First thank you for the great vids. I watch over and over trying to learn as I am a rookie with a capitol R. I notice in this vid the tip of your tool is a purplish color...due to the heat?? Would it do any good to dip your tools in water while working to cool it and possibly help protect the edge and maybe even harden it a bit?

    Jimmy. On a piece of wood like this, would it make sense to RE-saw the burl off the top so it’s turning flat?

    • @jimmyclewes
      @jimmyclewes  4 года назад

      Yes mate , that would work.
      Whatever it takes to make you feel safe and confident.
      If you are ever unsure , where a face-shield. It’s not worth the risk !!! Jimmy
