This is the 2nd album I ever owned (Rise and Fall being the first). At age 11, I thought One Better Day was a bit slow, but as I've matured into middle age, it gets more and more beautiful. I love that as I got older, and the remasterings (and my headphones) improved, I was hearing subtle sounds, I missed first time around. I don't think there is any skippable tracks on this one. Love it!
I could listen to Stripey Ramble (see what i did there?) all day. I love listening to him talk and his enthusiasm is infectious. Its great people speaking with passion about the things they love.
Cheers Stripy , yet another well done video " AS USUAL, I HOPE YOU'RE DOING WELL" Just when I was thinking 🤔 hmmm what Platter to Spin tonight... Ahhhh Stripy recommends Madness, Keep Moving! That it is 😎🎶🎧
This album to me marked the end of the golden era of the band. Looking back now Keep Moving should have been their farewell album. By the time this was released in February 1984 Mike had all but left the band, their contract at Stiff was ending and the band had reached the end of their popularity cycle, as all bands do. I agree with what you say about the cover, this was mainly down to the band and stiff records at the time putting very little creative effort into the artwork as both parties were going their separate ways. The cover was going to be a shot of them in a black jaguar, similar to the Michael Caine cover. However Dave Robinson came up with the rather crap idea of having them running around Crystal Palace athletics track in the weird belief it would capture the sprit of the forthcoming 1984 Olympics. If you would care to search, Manfred Mann’s Earth band released a single the previous year called ‘Runner,’ the cover is almost exactly the same as that of Keep Moving. For all of this I have loved KM since it’s original release, fantastic album!
I know what you mean, but if they'd ended after KM, we wouldn't have had, Yesterday's Man, Uncle Sam, (Waiting for a) Ghost Train & Falgate + a bunch of other classics. I think it was Lee’s Jag on the cover to Michael Caine (great cover, btw) I've always loved this record, but I'm getting a new appreciation lately. It's a classic 👌 Cheers Zelda
Thanks for this. Not underrated at all in my book. From the minute I heard it in New Jersey in 1984 I knew it would be my favorite album of all time and still is. I even managed to have all seven band members autograph the CD cover in Philadelphia in 1999. I’d say it’s a perfect album but “Samantha,” ugh, lose it.
I listened to this album on a walk tonight and it was fun sounding. Although I wasn't into Samantha and Victoria Gardens but they weren't bad by any sense of the phrase. One Better Day and Prospects were my favorites but all the tracks were amazing.
Another top review mate. We are the same age and I agree we all did those things in the 70s, how times change. Got to agree I never brought this in the 80s. But I’ve got the extended cd I’ve had for a few years now. It really is becoming my favourite album of theirs.
Thanks, Andy. Growing up when we did, it seemed like we had so much freedom (I miss those days) Keep Moving is a fantastic album (underrated) cheers mate 👍
Nice one Stripey for reviewing KM. Absolutely is my favourite Madness album and KM is my 2nd. Have some wonderful memories of listening to this when I was a teen, played it constantly on my Walkman. I had the US Geffen version of the tape, back in the day, with Sun and the Rain and Wings Of a Dove as extra tracks. Great review as ever.
Nice one, another great review Stripey! Love this album and the picture disc - I have to agree with the lazy label on the new release. They quality of the vinyl is great. Definitely one of the albums that grow on you more as you get older. Like The Rise and Fall, I’ve enjoyed these LPs more as I’ve aged. Cheers.
Thanks, Tone. It is a great album & like you, my appreciation for Keep Moving has grown with age. The reissues are fantastic (apart from the labeling), the sound great & I'm loving the liner notes too. Cheers Pal
Great video my old mate stripey ..... I remember buying this album back in 1984 I was 12 years old..... Always been a madness fan and this is a great album 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Stripey, been looking forward to this one. Bought KM the day it came out (yes, I'm that old) and I still love it. I always thought Victoria Gardens would have made a great single. Nice one mate.
Victoria Gardens was almost a single then they went with the also magnificent One Better Day. The artwork on the One Better Day single was intended for Victoria Gardens. Great video as always Stripey! 👍
Another excellent and very informative vid Stripey👍 I love this underrated album! I do love the rather funny questionnaire on the back sleeve. My original copy just has the plain black Stiff records label with a black card inner sleeve & a fan club sheet where you can buy Keep Moving T shirts etc. Would it be possible for you to do a review of my all-time favourite Movie Ken Russell's interpretation of Tommy please? There's not many reviews of this movie on here. Keep up the great work my friend 👍👍
Thanks, Tony. It is indeed an underrated album. I love Ken Russell's Tommy (have the soundtrack on record) as well as The Who's, album obviously. Leave this with me, mate, I'll put it on my list of projects, this will be fun to review (not seen it in ages) Cheers fella
Hi mate Everything okay? I never heard this album. But I'll try to download it. Looks quite interesting with songs about some society issues. Around 1984 Madness hadn't any more hits in the top40 over here, so they were quite fast forgotten in the Netherlands. But I'll give it a try. Something else. ......... I know you're a big Pink Floyd fan. Lately I'm listening to Floyd quite a bit, but ..... is it crazy when I say that I like Meddle and Atom Heart Mother the most? Take care, mate and enjoy listening to whatever you're into.
Hi Mate, Keep Moving is definatley worth a listen or Ten 😉 I do love a little Floyd my friend & Meddle and Atom Heart Mother are amazing albums, Echoes & the title track Atom Heart Mother are amazing & you can really get lost in them. Talking of Floyd, I'm off to the cinema Thursday to watch Roger Waters This is Not a Drill concert live from Prauge. Should be a cool show & very much looking forward to it. Keep an eye out mate (I may do a wee review) cheers Pe Ke
The fact that the album cover was used as a 'cash in' on the forthcoming '84 Olympics was a bit disappointing..... gone were the baggy trousers and Fred Perry's .....potentially alienating some fans who didn't recognise the 'athletes' on the cover.... great review... all best JT
I was 10 in 1984 when I got Keep Moving. I thought the cover wasn't good then. I'd been getting Madness records since I was six, which seems incredibly young now. They lost me here though, not much for a ten year old to get into! I loved Michael Caine. Of course, I now think Keep Moving is a very good album but it's not one I go to often. I need to play it more.
@James Taylor Six, wow, that was young. I was 14 when Baggy Trousers came out. That's the tune that got me hooked on Madness. Keep Moving is such an underrated album by fans. But I've played it a lot lately and grown a new appreciation for it. I've always liked it, but I'm loving it nowadays. Bit of a crap cover, tho. Cheers, mate 👍

I was about 13 when I had this album in 86 and to this day stands out as one of my all time favourites.

@@JamesTaylor-yg7ow Thanks, James.
The cover to One Better Day makes more sense now. Victoria Gardens is a classic song.
Cheers pal 👍
Good stuff bud. Its a great Madness album, agree on the sleeve ✊
I miss the 80s. So much great music! And so diverse.
Me too, Steve. It was a great decade with some awesome music.
Cheers mate 👍
Excellent review stripey, going off to listen to this now, keep up your good work
Thanks, mate.
I'm glad you liked the video. Enjoy listening to Keep Moving. It's an excellent album.

Enjoy Roger Waters
Love the Fred perry ❤
Cheers, Kevin.
You can't beat a Fred Perry mate 👍
If done in 1984 how come the song keep moving was done live on top of the pops in 1983
The fact that the album cover was used as a 'cash in' on the forthcoming '84 Olympics was a bit disappointing..... gone were the baggy trousers and Fred Perry's .....potentially alienating some fans who didn't recognise the 'athletes' on the cover.... great review... all best JT
