    Yup. I have an LT4. I flew to Florida to buy it,drove it 850 miles back home. What a road trip. They made 504 white ones. Fall in ,crawl out...but hey,nothings perfect.You can bypass the VATS and the skip shift easily.Performance rear axle was a dana 44 3.45 posi. Use correct plus and wires,they were red. And don't freak at the temp gauge. Reverse flow coolant,and are designed to run hotter. No heel and toe for us though,without a block. Watch that ASR button! Have you found the secret hidey holes?

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  4 года назад +1

      You mean the secret hidey holes in the door panels? Those were a creative trick the GM engineers pulled to add more storage space. I used to love showing those off when I was selling new ones during 95-96. It never ceased to impress the customers😎

      @VetteSource  4 года назад +2

      Thats awesome! There are so few of these out there I have never met anybody else that had one. This one was the 1st Competition Yellow LT4 coupe built on December 4th, the last month they produced this color. Your car sounds like this one, a 1SB optioned car, with the sport seat option. You would be amazed how many of the 103 coupes were LT4 "strippers" that didn't even have power seats or CD player. A couple of them even were Japan exports. How long have you had yours? Do you know what month it was produced?

    Great video and information on the LT4 engine. I have a 1992 with the LT4 engine and 6 speed trans. The original owner was an employee of GM and had this engine and trans installed in the 92, I am the 3rd owner. It's brite red with red int and a white convertible roof. It has 53K on the clock but I don't know how many miles of that were put on after the engine swap. The person I bought it from wasn't able to provide the original owners info to find out the specifics. I ordered the build sheet and window sticker from the Corvette Museum and this car was originally an auto with the LT1 at a price of $43,XXX. Also he didn't change out the tach. it has the original 6K tach. I wrote to Lyle at C&S corvettes and questioned the tach and he said not to worry about changing out the tach if I don't intend to rev to those high RPM's. It's a wonderful, wonderful car.

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  3 года назад +1

      Exactly, it is one of those colors that leaves a lasting impression, and complements the C4 body style perfectly. In fact the first year it was produced in 1990, they had to halt production because the pigment in the paint turned out to be photosensitive to UV light and would change color between body panels. Only 278 of them made it out of the factory, and they didn't bring it back until 1993. Total production of Competition Yellow Corvettes from 1993-1996 is under 3000 cars, so they are fairly uncommon to come across. Thanks for the comments 👍.

    A fountain of knowledge, thanks for sharing.. Heed this gentleman’s advice to RESPECT these cars and do not underestimate their ability to bite!(3rd gear especially in my experience) Mine is a 91 and produces considerably less; however, within 45 minutes of purchasing mine, I felt it was a little lazier than expected… I got on it hard in a corner in 3rd… It came alive in a hurry!! I managed to hang on to it, but on 2 occasions I’ve loaned it to 2 different guys I trust implicitly as “drivers” and despite my warnings both of these guys put it off the road(My daughter and I had front row seats to watch from the used Cummins I had just purchased… “Oh no daddy he’s going to crash our Corvette!”… “yes he is honey”. Slow motion ( fortunately just into the grass next to the on ramp) mine seems to be a completely different animal a half hour or so after start up, It really wakes up!.. thanks again for all the great info. Stay safe folks!

      Shane, thanks for the kind words. Like you I have seen several "experienced" drivers get into trouble very quickly in a C4. The best description for them is an overpowered go-kart. They'll loaf along like a grocery getter at 1/4 throttle, then when you put your foot into respond like a horse out of the gate. Very fun if you can keep it under control😁.

The silver lining is it just makes it more affordable for the people that know better😁

The last one built in the 9000 VIN range rolled off the line on Dec 19, 1995 a few days before Christmas break. Hey Mike, the C4's are exceptionally capable road and track cars, so much so that they were banned from SCCA racing because they dominated the competition in the series so consistently.
      With your stature, you should be just able to squeeze into the drivers seat on most of the C4 years. The 94-96 cars with the updated seats are the best of the series and have the most powerful engines. so I would suggest looking into those first.

    How does the LT4 compare to the LT5? Similar performance?

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  3 года назад

      Its not that far off from a seat of the pants feel. However the dual overhead cams of the LT5 allow it to pull like a freight train all the way up to the upper RPM range, while the LT4 starts to breathe a little harder above 6K. Quarter mile speeds are a few tenths slower with the LT4, and the LT5 definitely wins in the top speed category.
      Although I am definitely a fan of the LT5, unless you just have to have the ZR-1 experience, you'll have just as much fun with the LT4 and alot less up front expense.

      Fredriche, thanks for the sub and comments. LT4's can be tricky to find in higher mileage condition as many of them were bought as secondary cars and not driven much.
      With that being said I would lurk around the usual online classifieds sites and talk to people at the local cruise ins and shows to find one.
      Expect to pay anywhere from $8500 to North of $10000 depending on overall condition.
      For comparison purposes, I just acquired this LT4 with 133K miles for under $5000, but that is an anomaly and not the norm -

I can only imagine how difficult it would be to find one 25 years later. Low mileage cars like this will run well North of 15,000 USD upwards to close to the original sticker price depending on configuration and options. Collectors are starting to seek them out so it hasn't helped keep the prices down.

      I've had both, and while it isn't faster it definitely holds it own against its big brother up to 100 MPH. It's when you get to the higher RPM ranges above 6500 that the LT-5 engine really shines. It keep pulling like a freight train all the way up to 170-180 MPH. Of course, who's going to go that fast on a regular basis😁?

      @@VetteSource I've seen videos on RUclips of the LT1 and Lt4 also reaching speeds around and above 180 miles an hour I go to the Corvette forum and a lot of them brag about taking their cars well over two hundred miles an hour I don't think that's possible. After a hundred and seventy miles an hour the car slowly increases speed🤔🤔🤓🤓

      Yea, in all the years I have been doing this north of 200 MPH is an urban legend unless the car is highly modified. I think under optimum conditions both the LT-1 and LT-4 could get into the high 160's low 170's range, but again were talking perfect road, perfect weather, good driver. Unless you're out running across Montana or Wyoming you will never get much of a chance to explore that upper end.

      @@VetteSource there's a video where Corvette owners can go to a 2-mile Runway and get their cars up to a hundred and seventy-seven possible 180 each vet was different some were modified some were stock it's still a fast car🇺🇸🇺🇸🤓🤓. Were you working on cars when the C4 was banned from all racing events so Corvette started their own forum

      Sounds cool, I will have to see if I can find it. Corvettes have been a life long obsession for me and I managed to find a way to start working on them from a very early age when I was in junior high. I do remember when they were banned from SCCA because they so thoroughly dominated the competition it was considered unfair. Of course people have forgotten it was the lowlly C4 that got them banned. It make me laugh when I hear so called enthusiasts talking them down. They don't know what they're missing.

      These are the 1SA base non-sport seats. The upgraded seats are wider with the Corvette logo embroidered into the headgear and inflatable bolsters.

    I'm 71 and I still love driving crazy fast. Scare the heck out of my passengers, that is, when I let them in my car.
    What's the top speed on these?
    That is a beautiful car and I now just love yellow!

      It is definitely a captivating shade of yellow. Something about the tint makes it pop more than other yellows. I guess that's why they call it Competition Yellow😁.
      I know what you mean about driving fast. When I am in the family cars I tend to drive like a grandma, but when I am in the Corvettes it's back to teenage driving😂. This car should be able to hit between 155-160 MPH, although I haven't pushed it that far... Yet👍

      As a matter of fact, it does. Fans come on at 227 and off at 215. It will stay in that range for hours at idle. I will probably make a video soon going into more detail about this.

      @@VetteSource do you think that these cars will survive a long drive like 500 miles ? Because I am fixing to buy a 96 corvette with 87k miles on it, and I will be driving it back home which is about 500 miles

      For sure, these are road cars that love long trips. Years ago I bought an 84 out of a gentleman's backyard that had been sitting long enough for the red paint to turn pink in the Las Vegas sun. I put a new battery in it, checked the fluids, loaded up a tool bag and proceeded to drive 1700 miles all the way back to South East Texas. The only trouble I had was receiving a ticket from a Texas State Trooper for driving 89 in a 75🤣.

      For sure, the LT1 is a strong engine with plenty of power through the entire torque band. The LT4 just manages to up the game with the factory hot rod parts they installed on it.
