It was arguably the first game to utilise this method. Where you render 1 location at a time to avoid loading screens, but when you near the next load able stage it’ll start to load that one and stop running the one you are leaving. Similar to how they did Crash Bandicoot but on a larger scale. This game was really well made for its time, you are right.
I always found the world in Jak and Daxter to be incredibly interesting and mysterious at a young age. I remember looking down at the continent from the dark eco silo or snowy mountain and being impressed and intrigued by the mere scale of the world as a kid
Hahaha having Samos talk in Kira’s voice when none of the players would ever know(since the cutscenes are going on) is such a funny touch from the animating team
3:14 I always knew that the enemy could reach Jak before he could even react to it, and so he was backed off in the cutscene lol. I really enjoyed this video would love to see more.
It’s like having a drone in a movie set. Plus, it gives you a pretty cool sense of how game designers create cutscenes. It almost feels like stop-motion
This provides some valuable insight in CGI animation. They really implemented a lot of teleporting and even have the characters stand in areas with unstable footing. Still, with the kind of camera work employed, who would really know better?
May I ask how you do this during cutscenes while Jak is still there please? When you press L2+R2 and you turn on free cam, everytime you move the camera you move Jak too..
Thre is a camera lock offset in the memory. I will send it to you on discord when I arrive home. You need cheat engine and an older version pcsx2 (1.5)
Um hi I just discovered this video whe trying to find a specific off camera video. I was hoping if I could request grabbed by the ghoulies? I've been looking for years for a video on that but...luck...will you please do it?
@@DonkeyPlanet a few years ago I did something with cheat engine where I would enable the "first person look" camera (with triangle button I think) and then change my position by editing some addresses in memory. But that was pretty cumbersome. How did you manage to get such smooth free camera movement? Is there some script/trainer available that you used, or did you write some code yourself?
The fact that none of these games had any pre-rendered cutscenes in them is extremely impressive to me especially being on the PS2
This was one of the earlier games too.

Sooo impressive although they took alot of short cuts proven by this video its just unbelievable impressive
Thats ND for you. The character models in the second and third game have even more polygons than cutting edge PC games of their era like Half Life 2.

Dad, the logo is flying around the village again...
Zega_Exiron 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Quick, son, start the game!
Amazing
I know the comment is old but this made my night 🤣🤣🤣

Look at Jak's eyes at 3:57

Thank you!
Part 2 coming soon... :)
3:36 jak slowly sliding away before daxter panics is so funny
2:39 lol Jak was meant to fall in the dark eco not Daxter.
5:29 cracks me up.
I laughed my ass off when Samos imitated Keira talking. Maybe he was tired of having to listen to her stories haha
2:40 jak is doing the t-pose
Omg Samos 5:34 :D Thanks for making this video!!
6:35 dang samos is creepy
hes a demon help
OMG!!!😆
6:29 Samos would be right at home in an Exorcist movie. xD
Lol 3:38 jak slowly backs away.
The music works very well too. Lmao
4:00 Jak eyes tho XD
4:00 omg jaks eyes! LMAO
6:24 I guess Jak won the Mannequin challenge.
BIGFANOFEVERYTHING 04 Ikr 😂

4:00 Jak's eyes lol
5:33 samos is keira :P lol
What I thought all cinematics where pre rendered and just that, 15 years thinking that :c
Me too
When you think it's much cheaper and convient to do it this way than animate a cytscene for each moment
@Zachary Erickson
no since it's a PS2 game I think it would look worst, because of image compression
They didn't pre render them because they wanted the game to have no loading screens
Try 20 years for me😂😂
It's all about camera angles guys and gals...So much fun
2:40 Jak is asserting his dominance.
1:07 Jak's face xDDD
Dantering Lol and 6:34
Sadie Winterlord And 4:00 😂
Oh god this made me die of laughter!
This was so cool! I must watch more!
6:55 when the climax hits you
Samos mouthing Kiera's words was hilarious. I wonder if a shot of him doing that while leaning against a wall was originally going to be used
This provides some valuable insight in CGI animation. They really implemented a lot of teleporting and even have the characters stand in areas with unstable footing. Still, with the kind of camera work employed, who would really know better?
Can you walk anywhere you want with the camera ? I mean, could you explore all the world freely ?
OUR LORD HAS SPOKEN
Yes, you got it.
It's a great video!!
I played this game at the time of kindergarten. I am now a university student. Old memories have come back.
Same with me, I'm happy to hear this :D
2:36
Byeeee daxter
Damn, that was fun!
This is pretty cool
+ThaRixer OMG! Thank you Ricky, I love your Jak and Daxter and Ratchet & Clank speedruns! :-)
No problem man, you keep doing you :)
I love off camera secrets. Nice vid!
Thanks! :D
What?? Ever since I was 2 I always thought the fish were coming from the other side of the dock
ah good ol jak and dax, very first game i completed on the ps2 i miss it very much
4:56 Samos' movement looks creepy.
Seeing this makes me feel like 12 year old me took this for granted.
Thank you, finally someone making this video. These games were so ahead of their time
2:40 t pose
Samos is marik ishtar and his stick is the millenium rod. He controls Keira.
Thank you so much for doing this video, this will remain my favourite game forever 💕
That was interesting to say the least
1:06 Chameleon jak
thats really cool! can you do that with Jak 2? would be awesome!
Yes, I can with Jak and Daxter, Jak II and Jak 3.
Nice, was a really fresh video, I liked it :)
Its incredible that this is possible
Wow, this makes me nostalgic.
Quality video 👌 deserves way more views.
3:59 Jak’s eyes 😂
I love this.
Samos mocking Keira had me crying
At the start with the jak and daxter moving thing could u go have a look at the beach and jungle to see if its there
Why would Samos talk when Keira talks?
Xerota probably accidentally tied her audio to his model, he represents his own speech and hers

@@DonkeyPlanet Thanks a lot that would help a ton! I just would like to create one shot thats only possible with this mode.

Woow so thats how they did it weirdseeing it from that perspective nice 😀😀😀
👌 10/10 👌
2:40 THE T POSE!
This is so damn cool!
Where does Samos go at the end of the game?
3:59 😂😂😂😂 Jak
HERE COMES A BIG ONE
nice xD
Thank you
...Colab with boundary break? Pleease
I forgot about them having bigger eyes so imagine a Jak and Daxter anime.
6:35 when you watch to much scary videos
please tell me how to get that feature?!!!!
Um hi I just discovered this video whe trying to find a specific off camera video. I was hoping if I could request grabbed by the ghoulies? I've been looking for years for a video on that but...luck...will you please do it?
how did you do that is it a cheat code?
Did you use just emulator hacking or did you also make use of the developer build/mode of the game?
Just emulator with the retail game, and also cheat engine

@@DonkeyPlanet nevermind, I just realized you had an entire video on the topic. My bad
Ratchet and Clank had pre rendered cutsenes but most of it was in Game
Cette caméra est super
3:54 *squeak*
5:30 uhhh... Samos... why are you talking like Keira?
Its so weird seeing the text as 3d objects and not an aftereffect.
2:41 T-Pose.
subscriber #700 c':
How can I enable it? Any normie friendly guide? I want it to use it on the OpenGL.
Wtaf
how to you use off camera at all?
he's not answering
@@RainbowiaPS3 Yea i realised that by now :-D
Shame full plug. I did a part one video of the precursor legacy on my channel if anyone is interested
Kkkk fly
Seeing the way that the female characters are dressed in this game... There might be some argument for the whole sexism in video-games thing
Nonono in this universe they like to dress like that
