What bothers me about the defense is how easily they are blocked. They allow engagement and then only get off the block after the ball carrier is by them. They play sound positional football but do it very passively - waiting for someone else to make the play. This compounded by the safeties consistently taking poor angles, the result is the D being lit up with big strikes. Way too many third and longs being converted. Check out Ward and Hufanga on Kyler Murrary's 50 yard run - these are the two guys who should have made a play on him - Ward made a business decision, and Hufanga never located the ball and uselessly runs into the running back scrum. The D is poorly coached and under-motivated - after Seattle some coaches and players need to be fired. And building on that - I'm tired of seeing the O-Line showing little situational awareness when other teams overload a side. On the game ending interception - McKivits sticks with the outside rusher instead of pivoting to take the inside rusher - this is what created the three on two at the B gap. Foerster needs to go.
Campbell is a major problem on defense. Liability on run and pass defense. Winters and Graham should be playing. They are talented, fast, and aggressive LBs experienced in the 49ers defensive scheme. Another example of not playing their best players. George Odum and Isaac Yiadom should not have been starters. Jordan Mason sat for 2 seasons before getting an opportunity because of injury. McCaffrey might not have been injured if Mason was utilized cutting down McCaffrey's excessive carries per game.
For the CMC to the 49ers is like Cleveland Cavaliers to Lebron James, so dependent on a single player. Kyle didn't want to put money into better O-line players. Maybe it is like BA said that teams are playing receivers differently??
Dont let them make CMC the scapegoat. Kyle is offensive genius. They spent all that money on offensive weapon. They have a pro bowl qb. They had all offseason to come up with a back up plan for cmc they didnt practice with him. Mason is plenty good enough for a starter.

Larry, there is a basic philosophy I follow in my lifestyle as a cattle rancher that I feel is not observed by the 9ers in particular. At certain times of the year when there are days spent ahorseback doing the seasonal work it is imoirtant to take care of your horse so he can see you throughout the season. Yes we have 2-3 horses available to use. If you push your horse too hard on day 1 of a project w/o the proper recovery care thst animal doesn’t make day 3 thus the work isn’t completed. The team has overworked so many of their key players of course they can’t last. Now they’re just going to have to make the best of the situation & not cry over past injuries. Like I said I don’t know if this train of thought exists in football. Maybe it doesn’t but then again maybe it should?
There are a lot of problems, but the one that I don't understand is why Kyle has such a long leash with Ronnie Bell when he has been notoriously impatient with others who either turn the ball over or drop very catchable passes. He's waiting way too long to experiment with a receiving corps that isn't getting open in short areas. If he waits too long to plug in a receiver that can get separation, the 9ers are going to be up a creek without a paddle, unable to make up ground to salvage the season.
I also love how Larry thinks we can just plug some guy into this defense and without any time…. Just make an immediate improvement… it doesn’t work like that 😂

By the way pro football focus has both number three just a little bit lower than last year. Jed ain’t gonna fire Kyle…or Lynch…he learned his lesson after canning Harbaugh, and keeping ‘the football guy’ Baalke….so they fire Kyle, and promote an interim HC…and the 9ers go on to lose the majority of the games this season…did firing Kyle solve anything, other than appeasing Grant Cohn and some fans whose knowledge goes as far as what Grant broadcasts….?…then there’s the ‘hire Ben Johnson’ crowd…what if Johnson doesn’t wanna come here because of high taxes, political climate, the bums living and crapping on the street…maybe he just doesn’t wanna come the west coast…then what..?
