I’m absolutely SHOCKED at how much I’m loving Fourth Wing right now! I’m filming a reading blog as I read it and I was so sure it’s gonna turn into a rant but I’m so engaged 😂 I firmly think it’s bringing back Eragon vibes to me, I just love dragons it seems! Need to watch your rant from June haha A 50:50 split aim in fiction and non fiction is impressive! How did I miss there’s a second The Maid coming out!? 😮
Loved watching your vlog on Fourth Wing (even if we overall disagreed). I do need to try Eragonn! I’ve never read it if you can believe. I just got Mystery Guest approved on NetGalley so hope to read it soon and share my thoughts.
@@GloriaZThompson thanks ☺️ I cannot guarantee that Eragon is a hit, I read it over 10 years ago and I don’t know if it holds up! Palomino was 15 when he started writing it!
I’ve been feeling the same about my reading-that the books have been less enjoyable since I’ve been giving into Booktube hype the last few years and reading more newer releases. I used to read a lot more classics and also focused on backlist stuff I thought I would enjoy. I also read The Snow Child this year. I think I read it in January or February and it has stayed in my mind all year so far and remained a favorite. It was memorable and atmospheric which was helped by reading it in winter. I don’t normally enjoy folktales or fairy tales and their retellings. I didn’t know Angie Kim had a new book. I have Miracle Creek checked out from the library right now and haven’t gotten to it yet.
Yes totally agree with your thoughts! I need to stop being influenced by newer books (which is difficult because I love being part of this community and hearing all the buzz around books). But I’d love to experiment with reading older books and see how those work for me. And I too don’t love fairy tale type books but Snow Child worked so well for me. I really want to give their other book a try (also set in Winter in Alaska I believe). Maybe I’ll love that one too! ❄️
Loved hearing your answers, Gloria! I must try Katherine Center and Amy Harmon at some point! I would also like to attempt more historical romances! 💜 I hope your pregnancy is going well! 🥰📚
I gotta get to Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier! I'm not a horror girl but your description of 11/22/63 actually sounds pretty good?!? I also loveeed The Snow Child - totally agree that it was super atmospheric! The only Amy Harmon book on my TBR is Where the Wander Lost. Hope you're doing well!
Yes, I can say 11/22/63 didn’t give off any horror vibes. There was some gore and detailed descriptions of body harm, but not overly gratuitous. Where the Lost Wander has my heart. I may need to reread that one!
My reading is so eclectic as well! I find that after I read a REALLY GOOD book, it is so hard to find a book that I'll enjoy reading! It's like the book set such a high standard that everything else is mediocre! Currently reading: Atomic Habits and Holy Hygge. I got both of these from the library but couldn't read them fast enough while I had them and they both had a long hold list. So I actually broke down and purchased both of them. Historical fiction that I've absolutely enjoyed in the last few months: Emily's House (fictional novel about Emily Dickinson's maid), Over the Plain Houses (set in the Appalachian mountains before WW2), and All the Forgivenesses (set in Appalachian mountains, then Missouri, then Kansas, before the Depression). The last two were not "fun" reads, some really hard stuff was addressed. Over the Plain Houses should have a few trigger warnings. But both were so masterfully written that they really drew me in and gave me a lot of things to think about.
I’m with you sister. It’s been an “okay” reading year but not too many standouts. I guess Demon Copperhead was my favorite. Although it couldn’t match the pleasure I had of reading a project Hail Mary, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue or Razorblade Tears. I’m totally with you on Emily Henry. Her characters are adults acting like teens to me. I love Katherine Center too and can’t wait for her new release Hello Stranger. Get lots of rest!!
ughh the pregnancy insomnia!! I did not have this the first time around! I loved A Girl Called Samson! I haven't had the best reading year this year either.. I think I need to do a better job of just picking up what sounds good instead of trying to read along with all the different books that are going around as fun as that is 😛
There are so many symptoms that I had never heard about before experiencing them during pregnancy and insomnia is one of them. It's wild! Others for me include vertigo, and the most gnarly charlie horses (calf cramps) during the night. What is that all about!? Haha. And yes same, I'm with you... I'm thinking I just need to stop everything and only read Amy Harmon because at least I've never been disappointed by her books before.
@@GloriaZThompson ohh I have vertigo w/ Sam.. first symptom! Thankfully it only hung around for a couple of weeks! Yes I have one more Amy Harmon on my shelf (there are others I haven't read of hers too)!
I agree with you Matilda is amazing and fantastic book 📕 love this video and your amazing channel prayers and thoughts to you and your family love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤
I’m sorry you didn’t like Enchanted April…I LOVE that book. 😂♥️ And I love the movie, too. It’s funny, but my friends that love it tend to be older and those that dislike it are younger?! Not sure if it’s that way across the board but?!
Some of my favourite reads this year have been, ‘Other Women’ by Emma Flint, ‘The Walled Garden’ by Sarah Hardy and ‘Go as a river’ by Shelley Read. Thanks for the video!
Hi Gloria! I just ready a book by Amanda Cox and really enjoyed it. I was looking at her other books to add to my list and she has one coming out in Aug - “He Should Have Told The Bees” The cover and title made me think of you so I thought I’d share!
Thanks for book reviews
Matilda is a favorite!!
It was so fun! I can’t believe I’ve only now read it.
I hope you find your 5 star read!
Thank you, me too!

@@Nixreads True... it might not have the nostalgia for me. But I hope to be pleasantly surprised and love it.

Oo yes! I think you'd definitely get along with a Katherine Center book. So far so good with pregnancy, in the home stretch now! Eek! 😬
Added I'd Rather Be Reading to my TBR, thank you!
Hope you enjoy it!
I agree about Happy Place. 🗑️ 🔥
I couldn't stand "Fourth Wing" either. If I only had a dollar for every "f' bomb. P.S. I LOVE Port Townsend.
It was soooo bad! It’s shocking to me how many are singing it’s praises.
I’m putting Matilda on my list! 😄♥️
I'm shocked to hear you haven't read it yet!?

Thank you for the historical fiction recommendations! I have never heard of them and I love that.
I really need to get to The Snow Child. I don’t think I’ve heard a negative review of it.
We, The Drowned really is beautiful 🤩
The perfect winter read; I would pick it up then!

I haven't read the Enchanted April book but I saw the movie. The movie is great, too bad the book is terrible
