- How to install non steam games and repacks on steam deck the simple way.
Now you can install non steam games a few ways on the steam deck but i found this way very simple and not much can go wrong.
But if you do need help Join the ARG Guilded server today with this link : www.guilded.gg...
Sd card command : STEAM_COMPAT_MOUNTS=" YOUR PATH HERE " %command%
Make sure where it says YOUR PATH HERE you in pact copy and paste your sd card path.
I haven't done this yet(waiting for my sd card),but your walkthrough was definitely good to get me to make games run on steam deck! Please keep up on walkthroughs. You the man👍

Thanks for the guide, some setups cause problems on Steam, I found the solution as follows, I installed the game I was going to install on the window, copied the installed game to USB and copied it to Steamdeck, added the exe to steam and managed to run it that way.
I wonder if there is a way to use bottles to install it and then copy over the games files from there. I am having issues with some games. It goes through the install but then it doesn’t seem to save the install anywhere on the steam deck file system
Will it work if i copy using the C type connected to SD from pc ?

Great job.. some people just follow the steps blindly, which you should never do. You have to understand the steps, and you did great explaining that.

Great video. I been quite successful getting most pc games to work (GTA IV, Hitman, etc...) but was having trouble with Nier Automata repacked. Seen my errors first 5 minutes, can't wait to try your method tonight!

Did you get it to work? iirc Automata ran like ass on PC in general without a fix. I know I had a bad experience with hardware that was well beyond the recommended specs
@@EvidenceFragmentary i totally forgot about this 😑. I got sidetracked and started tinkering with Model 3 emulation, Kotor on Yuzu, etc...etc... short version: YES it launched! I followed Aliens method but with a .iso mounted.
Long version: never played or heard of this game ever before watching various RUclips list covering the game and I was interested. But im coming from being a regular console gamer, I don't know the level of what is trash to you, also never even dawned on me to look past the menu screen to see if it even ran til just now. But I fired it up just now and it was pretty sweet, my spaceship turned into a mech, and that blew me away! So give it a shot and maybe you'll know how to set it to your liking (and share them tips in case im running garbage)

Your steps still works for me. Steam needs a better approach, installing games like this is very sloppy. A keyboard is needed for sure. The onboard keyboard will cover the typing area.
This is not how you would install a game that you bought. This is piracy stuff, you either put up or shut up and buy the game from the steam store so that you dont have to do all of this.

Subscribed and success!!! I couldn't find that critical file setup.exe in my repack. Was weird because it launches on PC and the Steam OS recognize it but still required purchase... but I kept getting ERROR 1 launching the game. So after researching more, I found my .iso copy, mounted it and found that setup.exe file i needed to complete your method. And it worked flawlessly 👌

Hi. is there any downside to installing the repack on a Windows PC then just copying the installed folder with the .exe file over to the Steam Deck?
you can do that and i have seen loads of videos with people doing it and i can't see any downside to it.

Thanks for the guide. I have been trying to install Transformers: War For Cybertron on the Deck and it just won’t launch. I’ve tried to install using your method, installation via Lutris and the old drag and drop existing install (Steam and PC builds) and no dice.
Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I have the WFC games on PS3 but love handheld gaming too much.

try other versions of patreon when you get to the part force compatibility layer and keep trying till you find one that works but failing that not all games will run on the deck.

I have a problem, i installed a game on the internal ssd and i cant find the exe. Some other guides say it is somewhere in Compat. Can you help`?

1:30 actually their is a software out there that can create a FAT32 partition larger than 4 GB with some sort of software trickery. I can’t remember the name of the app, but I did use it in the past to format a 256GB SD card for a console I homebrewed. It was either the 3DS, DSi, or the Wii.

The game I tried installing was going for 4 hours with no change. No remaining time gets added, the loading bar stays at 0%. I have no idea what im doing wrong.

Great video. What happens if you only have 64gb Steam Deck? There wouldn't be enough room to drag it to the desktop would there?
Buy a new ssd or sd card
you will have to install the game on pc instead of the steam deck, after that transfer the game folder to your steam deck

Do I need to have the internet on all the time to start the game and play or is it enough to use the internet to enter steam and start the game and I can play without internet?
some games won't work with this. especially games that require Microsoft Visual C++ so please state which program requirements will not work with your future tutorials.
Any fix for the game will run at first but a couple hours later it will just crash and the properties folders will have the target completely changed
Hi thanks for the tutorial i have an issue though. I added a game and the cutscene doesnt work it forcibly skips it. Am i missing something or do i need a different proton to get it to work?
You dont really need to copy the installation files to steam deck. You can just setup the game from the external drive.
How did you do that? You just open the setup.exe, on the external SSD, from the desktop, or you put the exe on the steam library ?

Hello JP, hope you're able to respond to this, but I recently changed my SSD to 1TB. How do I install it directly to the SSD from the installer (as opposed to your installing on the micro SD)? I can't seem to find the location. I recently installed on C but I could not for the life of me locate the files at all.

I have several games working this way. A few working that I tried are Wild West, Gotham Knight, Ready or Not, Deep Space 2, Battlefield Hardline, Ao Tennis 2 and PGA 2K21 to name a few

Do NOT install directly to the SD card, my Sims 3 Complete Edition repack from fitgirl took 10 hours just to install 6% of the game files. It even said it would take another 150 HOURS to install said game. I then canceled the installation and installed it on my 1TB SSD instead. Now, the whole installation only took me about 40 minutes.
If it is the game file ios format, should I follow the same steps?

Dude, I'm so inexperienced. I've used a pc for years and bought a console for the first time. Steam Deck! Now I've started watching these kinds of videos. There's just one thing I'm curious about. There are many shapes and adaptations in many videos for non-Steam game setup. Those who do it with Lutris are other methods or something. Can I install all games with the method you showed? The Lutris thing was very confusing. Like I said, I'm very inexperienced. I have a good computer by the way. If there was a way to synchronize with my computer, it would be very useful.
Steam deck is not a console. For me, a "gaming console" is something with a closed OS, which doesn't require anything from its user apart of launching the game. Steam Deck is a handheld PC running Arch Linux based OS, which is not perfect for gaming. People need to understand that buying Steam Deck is basically going into Linux gaming. And that's not very fun.
I bought Steam Deck because I'm sort of an IT guy, and I like to mess with Linux etc. But I can't imagine some of my non-IT friends buying Steam Deck and having fun. You can do EVERYTHING on Steam Deck. But you need to understand that it's a PC, not a console.
@mehow3263 it's actually extremely fun you wacko, ive used windows my whole life and steam os is light-years better, especially for gaming, I natively torrent and setup games on my steam deck.
