Respectfully I think the reason why more white players get opportunities is because for years the face of the team has always been the quarterback which predominantly has been white I think we'll see a shift in that over the years now that they're a lot more black quarterbacks that are the ones facing the media because they get a chance to explain the X's and o's and break the game down during interviews when you look at Shannon Sharp and deion Sanders and Michael Strahan they were so great that they were the faces that spoke to the media because the media wanted to hear them Don't be surprised if Pat mahomes and Russell Wilson and others start getting those same opportunities hopefully at least

"All right, I’ll tell you why you don’t have your ten million dollars. Right now, you are a PAYCHECK PLAYER. You play with your head, not your heart. In your personal life, heart. But when you get on the field it’s ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU DIDN'T GET. WHO'S TO BLAmE. Who won through the pass. WHO'S GOT THE CONTRACT YOU DONT. WHO'S NOT GIVING YOU YOUR LOVE. You know what, that is not what inspires people. That is not what inspires people! Shut up! Play the game, play it from your heart. And you know what, I’ll show you the kwan."

My honest perception is that this does vary broadcaster to broadcaster. Ngl, Fox is whiter. Generally I think in the studio it’s racially an ok representation of the league. Not in the booths. I think that today black ex pros do get opportunities but I think they struggle to get paid because the networks don’t think they bring eyeballs themselves. The only way to get paid really is to do what Unc, RC and Kelce have done and have your own platform as that changes the negotiations completely.

  • @InvestBetter.

Maybe Matt Ryan, and Tony Romo, made the connections they needed to make in media, before leaving the game, so that they had the inside track when it was time to make the transition? Maybe Cam didn't let it be known he wanted to be in the booth for NFL games?
SAS is right. Romo probably has an inside track, being the Cowboys QB for over a decade. That is an asset in negotiations
Being a Cowboys is valuable, on and off the field. I think Cam Newton, being a former NFL MVP/#1 player in the league, adds value

Well he's mainly talking about successful white QBs. Yes the white part is important but its the QB part that is more important in those guys getting opportunities. I suspect now that we are seeing more black QBs succeed, they'll get more opportunities in future...like when Pat Mahomes retires in hopefully 12+ years with a few more SBs to his name, I bet he'll be getting opportunities(even with his Kermit the Frog voice lmao).

@jefferykincey3907 why should he shut up when he's spitting straight facts. That's the problem none of y'all wanna hear the truth. Older white men run these networks and no matter what any of you think about that it's reality. They will go with the ethnic styles to a point if they are well groomed but they are not putting someone like Newton on tv and certainly not in a booth as a color analyst. That also is reality. He can continue to bitch, moan and hate on other people or get his act together.

Tony Romo’s first TV contract was for 3 million dollars a year. Then he was hit at broadcasting because he was calling the plays before they happen. Then he got that mega deal! He earned that deal. He wasn’t given it.

If romo has the talent in the booth does it even matter how he got there. I’m sure they had to do skits or practice auditions. And I’m sure he showed up and stood on business. I enjoy listening to him and I haven’t known a person yet who doesn’t like him.

To be fair, Tony Romo's performance has slipped some. Look at the 2023 Patriots/Raiders game and Super Bowl LVIII for examples of that. I agree that he has a point about Matt Ryan, though. However, there are prominent black NFL analysts out there such as Michael Strahan, Charles Davis and Louis Riddick just to name 3.

Being professional and looking professional is required for most jobs. Intentionally being controversial, talking bad about everyone and playing a victim is frowned upon in every industry up-and-down. Those with the power to higher are concerned with viewership and making money….Cam managed to turn the only organization that ever adored him - The Panthers- against him and his last attempt at playing football… he was arrogant and delusional, right up until the end. He doesn’t have the skills and he certainly doesn’t have the money making marketability for prime time TV… the only people giving a damn about his RUclipss are people that love his drama and controversy and trashy guests… that’s a very small percentage of the football fan world.
