Roiling vortex does not have any text on it that prevents players from casting from places other than their hands. The card that does that in standard is drannith magistrate Side note on the magistrate by the way: I think roiling vortex would be better. For one, magistrate does nothing extra if you draw multiples, and it also has a (IMO) worse failure condition if your opponent steals it. Imagine the case where you run out of cards, but you haven't drawn a magistrate to prevent the opponent from casting your allure spell. If you find a magistrate off that allure, then the opponent can cast it, creating a creature that can attack and it prevents you from casting kroxa from the graveyard. Because of this failure condition, you would want multiple magistrates in the deck (but we've already established that having multiple of them in your hand doesn't help you in any extra way). Meanwhile, if the opponent gets a vortex of your allure, then both of you will still take tick damage. The opponent can use the vortex's ability to stop lifegain from erebos' intervention, but of course, they need red mana open to actually use that ability. Perhaps the worst thing about vortex is simply the fact that both players take tick damage, which arguably hurts you more as the control deck
Loved watching your first Allure of the Unknown deck back when GRN was still in standard, and I'm happy to see your new take on it. These oddball control builds are the whole reason I love watching your videos every day :D
A few notes, as I've been playing a similar deck for a while. 1. Opponents should keep Kroxa in exile and not cast it. 2. Because of all the cheap interaction, a lot of spell lands are playable. 3. Skyclave shade as another recurring win con is pretty nice. 4. Run between 2 and 3 allures, you really don't need 4, and the opponent has less of a chance hitting an allure of his own. 5. I like running black lance paragon for flash speed pressure that can also act as removal and life gain, and isn't really problematic to remove if opponent hits it with the allure. The card advantage is still pretty nice. (My version is rakdos, but I'm sure the transition is possible.) That's all, folks!
After the Ultimatum Tour (waiting for the Sultai one, the trickiest to make use of) it would be nice to have a Tour of the Ikoria Rare enchantments as well. I know you already did the Sultai one, these days I messed around with the others and I made a somewhat functioning deck with each of them: -Whirlwind of Thought: tons of cheap instant and sorceries, Control, Wincon is Ominous Seas, Narset Ultimate or Dream Trawler (it has Magic Mirror so yeah) -Song of Creation: Historic, Draw/Ramp with Uro, Growth Spiral and Explore, wincon is Ominous Seas and Uro - Offspring's Revenge: apart from the usual suspect of Harmonious Archon and Kroxa I use Drana to attack and force the opponent into either Apparition, Ox or Armonious Archon, and have Polukranos as a finisher at it enters as a 7/7 with Haste - Death's Oasis: Lurrus, Fiend Artisan, bunch of token generators, Selfmill and Mutual Destruction, with some Enchantment synergy with Aphemia and Archon of Sun's Grace (Historic Version has Hidden Stockpile, Fatal Push and Ravenous Chupacabra), and it's a Yorion deck (a Friend also added Doom Foretold to the mix)

been playing my mono black devotion in standard featuring obosh and grey merchant. finding the time even to just play a few games each and every day is tough so my hat goes off to you sir, very nice streak!
So it just straight up loses to shadows verdict. Needs at least one other wincon, outlaws merriment would look good here if not for allure. Swapping intervention for feed the swarm would make that not as bad considering you also have ultimatum.
Honestly this is exactly the kind of content I love from CGB. It's a fun, interesting brew, and it's at least decently playable. Great way to shake up the usual hum drum.
The opponents that casted kroxa from you, missed a huge move that counters your play: not casting kroxa leaves it in exile, removing one of your few win cons

@@Ekair42 i made a deck with it when it came out had 55-60% win rate(some of that was because my opponents didn't know what to expect) except vs the biggest deck of the time fires of invention witch it had like 20%
Haha the moment where mono red messed up reminds me of the time where a mono white tried to exile my Kroxa on the field with an ECD and wondered why nothing had happened. Their cursor frantically switched betweem kroxa and ECD until they realized that kroxa is actually a 2 mana creature. Priceless.
The story of the fairy tail cards from eldrain are hilarious. The idea of putting a goblin in a special sleepy casket where they can only be saved by their true loves kiss. And then doing the same with a random rebel and a random giant like... Everybody needs a kiss.
I've been messing around with cards that can enable Scourge of the Skyclaves. One combo I stumbled upon is Roiling Vortex with Allure of the unknown. Roiling Vortex just seems like a useless card pinging for 1 damage each turn, but it's second effect can be a fun factor when you cast Allure and your opponent decides to cast a spell, taking 5 to the face. I haven't had succesful decks with it though, but it sure is fun to see people kill themselves when they dont realize it.
i just ran into this deck earlier, was a fairly fun game and several whiffs with the allure kept me alive longer than should have been expected, but eventually kroxbury kroxington showed up and ate my furor of the bitten enchanted fireblade charger
He is the most popular YT streamer for sure. And one of the best streamers. And builds some fun and competitive decks. But calling him the best player on YT without a doubt is a stretch.
The thing about the primal instinct is true. I can't count the times when my opponent plays a Fabled Passage and cracks it in response to a scry land. It defies every reason there is to not simply crack it on their turn. They are wasting time by having to click through priorities and gain nothing in return. For some weird reason that really bugs me.
The mono red netdecker has just enough IQ points to click on the cards in their hand when they are highlighted. Anything else and they have no clue what to do.
I have an aggressive brew that plays Allure of the Unknown as a way to refill your hand. It takes advantage of the oft-forgotten text in Roiling Vortex, doming your opponent for 5 if they decide to cast a card without paying mana. The rest of the deck is built to be poor for your opponent to hit, like X spells, creatures that can't block, etc. If you want to take a look at the deck let me know! i used a variation i have to add...i didn't have all the cards so i had to rig...but it worked well...almost too well but at five and zero im taking it...im taking a break...because it was about two hours of play...

The allure of the unknown confuses everyone. When the Absurd Heroine made her Allure deck for Halloween, two of her opponents ended up casting hagra maulings on their own creatures.
worth nothing: opponent can choose kroxa off the Allure, but then choose to NOT cast it, this way it will be exiled. Anyway, glad you are back with the Allure deck. I've been playing the rakdos, tuned to my preference, for a long time, it's still legit somehow. I did try to go mardu for the Ultimatum, but imo it's just better to keep it rakdos. Also Crawling Barrens is a must. Nice build tho!

Well, I thought I could suggest enigmatic etrata for the saulti ultimatum deck, but the best you could pull out with emergent ultimatum is Elder Gargeroth. Oh well, you could try ultimatum etrata. It's theoretically possible.
What a deck, didn't see this coming at all. I'm trying to imagine the mirror, it seems really stupid, too much about not decking while neither deck is proactive, but the image of three or more allures being cast off each other is funny as well. Edit: Any jank players out here who want to play a similar deck with 4 wishclaw talismans and some spicy oneoffs?
The stupid thing with ultimatum (and many other cards in mtga) are the stupid controls. Instead of waiting for the player to actively click it again it should just ask „do you want to play the selected card now? Yes or No). Loosing because of bad controls is just ridicilous and still and sadly happens way too often in the game. Whoever selects a card with ultimatum right now assumes it is automatically played especially when you see ist first time... they should fix or improve that. BTW great content as always CGB 😬👍

I think the Gruul was correct in not casting the Kroxa. If he did it would sacrifice and go into the graveyard, by not casting it it becomes exiled

I quit running ruinous ultimatum because my opponents always play ashaya which makes all their stuff lands
So basically, what I'm getting from this deck, is you got sick of ECD and built a deck that just doesn't care about it.

Mardu prison is one of my fav control builds, but I've yet to make a deck i can win with. I'll have to try this!
