  • Westerborkfilm - complete 1986 film. In CC scenes : NL (nederlands) , EN (English) , FR (français). The Westerbork Film - a silent film - is unique...the only authentic documentary footage filmed in a Nazi camp - a waiting room for death in the Netherlands for more than 100,000 Jews, and Roma, Sinti, and resistance workers. A documentary filmed 75 years ago, spring 1944, in the Westerbork transit camp, by the German-Jewish camp prisoner Rudolf Werner Breslauer, who had been working already some 2 years as a photographer in the camp. A 'Kulturfilm' commissioned by camp commander, SS-Obersturmbannführer, Albert Konrad Gemmeker, to convince the Gestapo headquarters of Westerbork's vital production value.
The Westerbork camp had been set up by the Dutch government before the war in Holland, in 1939, as a central refugees camp for Jewish refugees from Nazi-Germany.
In 1942 , when the Nazi's decided to start 'Entjüdung' of the Netherlands, they took over the camp and named it Polizeiliches Judendurchgangslager Westerbork , for use as central transit camp for deportation of mainly Jews, and Roma, Sinti, and resistance people to eastern Europe.
Rudolf Breslauer started filming March 1944 - around the same time the camp status changed to 'Arbeitslager'.
This film on the daily life of the Westerbork prisoners was added in 2017 to the Memory of the World Register of Unesco.
Iconic is the image of Settela - the girl with the headscarf -between the wagon doors of the deportation train to Auschwitz.
These few seconds are shown in the 1 minute slow-motion film Settela at Settela.com.
Images of the deportation train have been used in many documentaries over the years - such as our 2012 documentary 'Transport XX to Auschwitz'.
Actually , however, the Westerbork film has as yet not been presented online or elsewhere as a full film - only in parts : as either Acte 1 , Acte 2 , Acte 3 , or Acte 4 for download or for streaming separately , either in low quality, small format (and generally just Acte 1) or with a rough overall edit (color-exposure grading) resulting in loss of details.
I therefore decided to first present the full film , all 4 episodes , unedited except for cropping black bars, as the : Westerbork Film ~ Full version RVD...and later focus on adaptations.

one has to keep in mind that this was commissioned by the camp commandant, so it is propaganda material likely attempting to show the "humane". productive and effective side of things, not terror, sickness and torture, even though it still reads when one studies the faces and the body language

There is a belief that Gemmeker was angry with Breslauer for filming the transport. If you watch part one you can see that Gemmeker walks straight past Breslauer as he is filming. There are other instances where Breslauer films officers including Gemmeker talking, from various angles. If Gemmeker objected he would have told Breslauer to stop filming!
    One-way ticket from Westerbork

    • @michelvanderburg
      @michelvanderburg  Год назад +2

Thank you @jonjamg for your comments on the film. Here a clip from my Westerborkfilm Introduction : "Gemmeker aware being filmed by Breslauer. Acting actually (?)." - ruclips.net/user/clipUgkxoDPVABLFLvwHL3gt7OdBo3f3IvNBfgrO . It is clear Gemmeker did not stop Breslauer from filming Gemmeker and Co next to the train. (However , he expected to be in control of what would end up in the planned Lagerfilm). In my opinion it rather looks like they are posing somehow in various group scenes when the camera is pointed at them. You are right , you can see 'Gemmeker walks straight past Breslauer as he is filming' .
I have highlighted this scene in my 12 min 'Westerborkfilm Introduction' (May 7, 2022) saying Gemmeker is confronted by the camera of Breslauer. Gemmeker not looking at the camera , is not interpreted by me as Gemmeker being angry. He and his company are passing along both sides - with Breslauer's camera in the middle. My impression is Gemmeker & Co are acting - acting 'professionally' by not looking in the camera , in a perhaps arranged scene. Very special shot. What do you think of this analysis ?

hi Noel. I have not put a watermark in this film - there is no watermark burned in this film. If you are referring to the 'm' watermark that may be showing : that is a floating logo shown on my channel .. that will float away to the side or out of view , eg. when you look full screen on a wide screen. Note that this film I made has a 4:3 format ratio (nearly identical to the original footage) - and any black bars showing on the sides are virtual (not the film).
By the way : I used public domain footage in this film - however this final film has been made by me, and I licensed this film for use by others with a Creative Commons Attribution CC BY 4.0 - as shown also in the film credits.

@@RadhadaniteBabylonian Hi. The Holocaust and how it was done is not a narrative. It is a historical fact, and one of the most well documented one‘s, as far as I know. But I‘m not a good source on that. I’m not an expert. Especially because of that, I am here going to share some sources with you (without links, as Y**T*** (just to make sure 😂) doesn’t generally allow that). Please share with everyone you know, who questions this „narrative“.
SOURCES: First of all, there are still some Holocaust witnesses alive, one example is Irene Hasenberg/Irene Butter, who even has her own homepage. You can just search for „Holocaust survivors“ and will find some examples. Secondly, there are many museums and memorials of the Holocaust and the concentration camps. They are well-visited in Germany, Berlin. I’ve only been to a few, so won’t make a further general statement about that.
Thirdly, many intern documents from the then Nazi-rule still exist (for example from the so-called “Wannsee-Konferenz“) And even though these documents often show the horrible propaganda and sometimes ridiculous wording of the Nazis, they cannot entirely hide what they actually wanted, aka „Die Endlösung der Judenfrage“ (search for that for info).Germany Even has its own national archive of this, as this dark chapter of history cannot be forgotten by the very country responsible. Alright, I’m going to change tactics in terms of referencing/giving sources now. As I write this, I’ve found an easier way.
If you Google „Hvordan ved vi, at Holocaust har fundet sted?“, you should be able to find an article titled just that on the website called „folkedrab{dot}dk“ (no links 😳). In that article there are many references and links, and you should be able to translate that article through some kind of translating Programme, for example Google Translate. Again, you can just use/follow the links.
In my opinion, denying the Holocaust, or even just presenting historical facts as some kind of „narrative“ is an insult to the many victims (so many they had to be estimated, also weird admitting what we don’t exactly know, if this was some kind of hoax, just as a side-note) and witnesses still alive, if not perceived by them as a direct threat. The whole existence of the UN and basically the entire geopolitical developments since WW2 are partly a consequence of the Holocaust and Nazi rule, an essential part of WW2. Denying such an essential element, is denying reality to me, and just ridiculous. You can question it if you like, and your comments as well as the existence of those other questioning comments (that apparently couldn’t be given a thumbs up) just go to further prove that. We can never now anything for sure, what if we live in the Matrix? But then why was such a movie allowed to be produced? We can try to live on reality and understand it as much as possible, and accept something that is very likely to be true, to be true. Or else we can all just go around being flat-Earthers or even deny that we need oxygen to survive.

this system was so incredibly evil - likely one of the most evil and disgusting things humans have ever done. And these were our own grandparents and great-grandparents who did this - I always try to wrap my head around it, and sometimes I find little details in our lifestyle that connect to this complete breakdown of compassion and social responsibility. For example, we are fine with others having to clean our toilets for money, or with people being homeless or starving to death.

All in all, not such a bad place to be...

Compared to Auschwitz? Sure. I personally prefer living a life without any slave labor involved, however. That’s just me.

imagine being forced from your home to live in a camp like this - a place that was only meant as an intermediate stay before your trip to one of the death camps. There is more to this than meets the eye.

I don’t believe you commented under a video showing original footage from the holocaust. You actually played the video, and then commented that. Read that a few times. I am so shocked.
