      Most of the marches military still have in the parade were originally used in the battles.
      They're no longer useful in modern battle, but they still useful in ground parade.
      Same thing goes for old military music.
      Would be great to hear this style of military music be play during the parade. Just with fifes and drums.

    Der Hohenfriedberger (AM I, 21 (Army March I, 1c and Army march III, 1b)), also called Hohenfriedberger Marsch or Der Hohenfriedberger Marsch, is one of the most classic and well known German military marches. It takes its name from the victory of the Prussians over the allied Austrians and Saxons on June 4th, 1745 during the Second Silesian War at the Battle of Hohenfriedberg, near Striegau.
    There are many legends surrounding the origins of the march. Supposedly, the Bayreuther dragoon regiment, which was crucial in securing a Prussian victory, reported to its quarters the day after the battle while the march was played. Whether the march was actually played then is just as questionable as the claim that Frederick II of Prussia was the composer of the piece. It is understood that the king issued to the Bayreuther dragoon regiment a "Gnadenbrief", or letter of grace, that authorized it to play both grenadier marches of the foot soldiers (with flutes and drums) and the cuirassier marches of the cavalry (with kettledrums and trumpet fanfare).
    The first outline (piano rendition) was written in 1795. For the first time in 1845, in celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the battle, the march was given lyrics, "Auf, Ansbach-Dragoner! Auf, Ansbach-Bayreuth!...." because the regiment by then had been renamed "Ansbach-Bayreuth". In the time of the German Kaiser the title "Hohenfriedberger" was symbolic both on the basis of its connection with the great military victories of Friedrich II and because of the authorship of the House of Hohenzollern.
    In the year 1866, in commemoration of the victories of Friedrich II against the Austrians, Johann Gottfried Piefke added Der Hohenfriedberger as a trio to his "Königgrätzer Marsch" written after the victorious Battle of Königgrätz.

      Wtf... Only the nothern part of east- Prussia, belongs to Russa! The very most part belongs to Poland... That means 5/6 of Pomerania, southern part of east Prussia, west Prussia, 9/10 of Silesia, the province of Posen (in polish Poznan) and the eastern part of Brandenburg. The last oddments of Brandenburg, the germ cell of the prussian state, are west of the Oder- River. It`s nowadays a federal state of the FRG. And of course Berlin, embedded in the center of Brandenburg. The former western provinces are all divided in several federal states, which were formed in the time after WWII, before the west german republic were formed in 1949... And of course by the order of the Allied High Commission.

    Imagine that you’re a commoner who’s been conscripted to fight for the inbreeding Habsburg crown. You’re standing in a battlefield in sacred Germany holding a rifle that was shoved into your arms and you’re standing in line formation overlooking a hill. You hear a noise in the distance but you can’t make it out. You’re wondering if you’ll ever see your farm again. In that moment you see rank after rank of glorious blue shirts appear on the hill top and make its way down to meet you in honorable combat. The music becomes clear. It’s this song and to it matches the proud sons of glorious Prussia, rifles resting majestically on their shoulders, their officers in powdered wigs. You can see a figure emerge in the hilltop, more gallant and stoic than all the rest. It’s the King of mighty Prussia, Frederick the Great, leading the attack. You feel silly for ever thinking that you had a chance. You say a prayer and let go of any hope you ever had of returning to that farm ever again. The day belongs to Prussia.

    • @JavikShepard
      @JavikShepard 8 лет назад +7

      +Illuminati 420Skeleton Fife and drums were used before radio to relay orders, keep troop morale high, and to set the pace of a march. Crafty officers often had their musicians play slightly faster to make the troops march faster. But mainly, the music element followed behind the colors, and relayed orders and commands up and down the line of battle. Of course, most often, musicians were children of officers and as such, stayed behind the main lines of battle. In fact, true story, nobility would enlist their children into the military when they were born, and the child would be educated by military officers. At age 18, they had 18 years of seniority over anybody else just joining. But yeah, Fife and Drum... morale, marching, orders.

    YEAHHH!!! MARCH TO THE SOUND OF THIS MUSIC!!
    It must've been AWESOME getting hit into the knee by a musketball and then dying slowly of infections due to no doctor bothering with privates!!
    It also must've been really cool dying due to exhaustion, disease and under-feeding! As long as u got to march to this awesome song :D
    or what about the good-ol fashioned getting slaughtered by cavalry when your unit breaks?? As long as you get to wear a cool uniform right?? ;)

      I love this version too. It's what was played on the battlefield.
