it always amazed me how far ahead of its time tecmo super bowl was. it took developers years before they included basics like season modes, stat tracking and player licenses.
I was just playing TSB. It never gets old. I have even did multiple seasons and kept track of accumulative stats over multiple seasons. My best for sacks in a season is 96 by Philadelphias Reggie White. Beast
I have both. I have an affinity for Tecmo Super Bowl. It was the closest to actual football and a true multiplayer season mode. My Dad and I had many great games on that.
This guy forgot to mention that there is a huge community of gamers, fans and developers dedicated to updating Tecmo Super Bowl with updated rosters, team logos, names, stats, plays you name it keeping it alive plus online tournaments held all across the continental U.S.
Jason webb yeah I got stupidly lucky. At the time I didn’t even know Tecmo Bowl got a sequel and I mistook it for the original. Once I got home and did some research, thats when I found out that not only did I get the better game but I got it for an absolute steal.
Tecmo Bowl/Super Bowl are just the perfect games for when friends are around to have fun, they are easy to pick up and play and they just work no matter if you are a fan of the sport or not. A little while ago some friends were invited to host a video game tournament at a sports fair and they asked if they could borrow my copy of Tecmo Super Bowl for it, the tournament was the highlight of the sports fair.

Stats tracking, I love that when I'm playing with my brother and my cousin in the full season. I also love the half time show, specially the super bowl one, those flying... things hahahaha
Listen now, I like the video because I love Tecmo and Super Tecmo. You said they edited the playbooks but that just means you can change a play. One of the huge differences of the two was you could change the positions of your offensive starters in Super Tecmo Bowl. You could put your best wide receiver as your punt returner. You could switch the routes that your wide outs could run. This is a major omission. I actually consider myself an elite Super Tecmo Bowl player. I will switch the routes that Jerry Rice and John Taylor run on that ass.

I played in a tournament in Omaha earlier this year and I'm looking to do it again next spring, and maybe hit one up in Des Moines as well. Great game that takes on a whole different dimension if you have a good understanding of the teams and how defenses work.

Great memories! The only version of this game that I didn't LUST was the Playstation one. That's the one where they completely overhauled the gameplay and tried to "Maddenize" it, but kept the same perspective which didn't work when trying to judge whether receivers were open. That version single-handedly killed off the franchise. They should have just kept re-skinning Tecmo Super Bowl forever.
The one thing I didn’t like about tecmo super bowl was player two was at a big disadvantage because all the controls were inverted since you were going from right to left unlike player one and unlike playing against the cpu where you went from left to right. This game brings back a lot of memories.

2 greatest football games ever. I remember my friend got Madden on Sega Genesis and thinking how crappy it was and he was thinking how great it was. It's still as crappy now 25 years later. I thought another really good football game was the original Gamebreaker on PS1.
Its totally fine, the game is so simple you need little to no knowledge of the sport. I literally learned how football was played as a kid because of this game.
Always thought Dallas was the worst team since they were the ones coming off of a 3-13 season also the Minnesota Vikings had one of the best defense is on this game.
I never played Tecmo Bowl even though I think I may have it in my NES collection my brother handed down to me. Might have to go look and see if I've got it. It looks fun even though I'm not a big sports game fan.
EA has been trying for close to 30 years and they still haven't been able to make a football game as good as Tecmo Super Bowl

I managed to snag Tecmo Super Bowl for $1.00 4 or 5 years ago and it's been one of my favorite NES games ever since.
Damn I thought I got a steal when I found it for 12. Usually I see it for 25-30. I'm slowly buying back all the games I had as a kid. Haha.

The biggest difference between the two games is:
Tecmo Bowl = 9 players on the field
Tecmo Super Bowl = 11 players on the field
Tecmo Super Bowl had all 28 (at the time) teams too!

Tecmo Bowl/Super Bowl are just the perfect games for when friends are around to have fun, they are easy to pick up and play and they just work no matter if you are a fan of the sport or not.

Used to play TSB via emulator in school. We would crank the speed to the max so you could hardly have time to react. Good times!

Loved both but Super Tecmo Bowl was the best, you had season you could play and all the stars.
If you push select you can get another page of plays to pick from. It's more than 8 plays.

The only thing i didnt like about original tecmo was NO FUMBLES!! only INTs and turnover on downs. Players were bigger since it wasnt 11 on 11.
