TETON SPORTS MOUNTAIN ULTRA 1 PERSON TENT
What it is : This is a 3 season 1 person tent from the company known as Teton Sports. This is a budget friendly shelter that I have high hopes that I can ultimately recommend.
Before I can, I need to take a close look at the shelter and then test it out. Coming soon!
Back in 2017 I reviewed this tent and ultimately recommended and with it being 2022, this tent has changed some and it is time to reevaluate this product.

How the 2022 version is different than the 2017 version.
Luckily I still have my notes to compare important details
The new 2022 version is smaller by 2” in all dimensions when setup.
Dimensions: 82" x 32" x 39.5"
Packed Dimensions are virtually the same.
The newest version is slightly less heavy - 4.4lbs compared to 4.7 of the older version.
Teton sports used to state the hydrostatic rating but no longer does so. The fly was rated at 3000mm but this is no longer stated.
The materials are different; the older version featured a high denier rain fly
The older version included a groundsheet whereas the new one does not.
The price of the old version was $130 retail, I paid $118 for it back then.

With these changes the only big con that I see is the change in size; cutting 2” from each dimension could translate to a tent that simply will not work for all individuals instead they will have to get either a 2 person tent or go with a different product entirely.
The change in materials isn’t that big of a deal as long as the overall performance is similar.
Coming up I will begin with my testing of this product and we will see how well it performs in the rain. That is a big question for me.
It is my hope that this tent performs well as I would love to be able to recommend this tent and even the larger sizes for those who are looking for budget options.

My experience with Teton has been great. I recently damaged my Teton XXL cot. 1000% my fault. I purchased it from Amazon in 2019. I contacted Teton to see if I could purchase a replacement piece and they asked for a picture of the tag, the damage, and my reciept. I received the replacement piece in 2 days with no charge. So nice to see such great service.

Just used my Ultra 3 this past weekend. We got hit by a strong thunderstorm with about an inch of rain in 45 mins and pea size hail, the tent took it like a champ and did not leak. Awesome product for the price!
When Luke says something is good you can rest assured that it's an honest review.
I feel like the quality of manufactured things, even relatively expensive things, goes down year by year. So, seeing a review like this just makes me happy. It's great to see.
I will definitely send them a message. They do have quality products and budget friendly. Because of Teton sports I can take adventures hiking and it didn't break the bank to do it. The weight of their products are a bit heavier than the more expensive products, but I would rather carry the extra weight than not be able to get out at all. Their backpacks are tough and good quality. Thanks always Luke for your continued testing of budget friendly products. Your videos saves people so much money and more people are able to get outdoors knowing the products you test are reliable.
I think that's true of some brands but there are a few gems that continue to uphold their quality
Not true for all companies to use big Agnes as an example Big Agnes always makes some high quality products
I've had a Teton Sports Canvas Tent and sleeping bag for a few years... so far, they have been fantastic! Glad to see that my experience wasn't a fluke.
Great review. Blessings. Did not match, in any way, my assumptions regarding this product. I remember, as a kid, saving up and paying more than $100 for a Coleman tent that leaked like a sieve, like a screen door!😄. Sub-$100 for a non-leaker is EPIC.
Nice to see an entry level priced tent that performs solidly.
As a non-camper that is crazy good for the price to me.

I have the vista one camp set for my luxury camping adventures and then I also have the 4 person version of this tent. I haven't had any issues with either of them and I have dealt with their customer service as well which is industry leading and top notch. Absolutely 0 complaints with this company.
I've purchased a few Teton products and been very pleased with performance. Especially the 0 temp bag.
I bought the 4 person version of this tent with the exact same results as you. Excellent quality, and no leaking at all. The 4 person version did not have the pooling issue on the rain fly either. Teton was the first tent and pack I ever bought. Got both off Amazon for less than $200. I highly recommend Teton to everyone who is interested in the outdoors but not sure if it's for them.
So nice to see a product actually do what it is supposed to do with a price that is fair. Reminds me of the good days when companies took pride in their products and built them to last!

Just got home from my first hike/night with my new ultra1. The weather was great so not much of a test, but had a a perfect night. My only complaint is the colors, I was stealth camping out of site out of mind, with the whit tent it glows in the dark against the green pine, and the full moon lite it up like a UFO had landed in the woods
I messaged them on twitter, a week ago, I have one coming from Amazon that comes from the USA. I bought it based on the videos and some user reviews. One particularly where they sent the person a brand new backpack when all he wanted was a discount due to a house fire. That speaks volumes about the customer care. They got back to on twitter and where super nice and said any issues to get in touch. Its little things like this that make companies stand out these days.
I want to start by saying that I have enjoyed watching your review videos. I must say that you're extremely thorough to almost excess. Your channel gives the outdoor enthusiast critical information needed to make an informed purchase and I like that even though I am not in the woods every weekend. This video made me ask how often do you review a leaky tent? You seemed supremely pleased and shocked that an $80 tent didn't leak. My girls were in American Heritage Girls for almost ten years(similar to Girl Scouts but Christian based). We went on camping trips once or sometimes twice a year and used an Ozark Trial without a single problem and I can tell you it was family sized and didn't cost much over $100. We didn't camp during storms but it rained a couple times and it worked great. I was just amazed after watching some of your other videos especially the one that had standing puddles inside and the price you paid, that they leaked when my el cheapo did the job just fine. We are going camping this weekend, first time in awhile. It's supposed to get down into the 30's at night. Wish me luck. Thanks for the videos.

I have the 4 man version of this tent. I haven't put it through a rain test yet, but I have a few concerns. One of the nice differences between that and the tent you reviewed is there are small poles in the vent velcro and on the door velcro that allow you to hold those spots open.
Some of the not so nice things are these:
The guy line that hold the fly away from the body are elastic cord, as is the vestibule cords. This makes it hard to fully tighten. This is fixable but a bit annoying
If you aren't careful you can tighten the fly in such a way as the mesh from the inner tent comes in contact with the fly. Obviously not great.
The zippers are a bit difficult to manage with one hand
The setup is difficult for one person
UPDATE:
The tent has now been through several rain cycles, including the most rain I've ever seen fall in a single hour I've ever seen. I was pretty worried about our basement flooding. The tent was up at the time. After the rain finished? Completely bone dry. Amazing.

Kudos to Teton Sports for making such a high quality tent affordable for everyone! All the gear adds up cost wise, so it's nice to have a tent in that price range be such high quality! A tent is not where you want to sacrifice quality! Now everyone can have a reliable tent, even on a budget! Way to go, Teton Sports! I don't need a tent, but I will look at their other products just because I like the way they do things!
I ordered a Teton Ultra 3 a couple days ago on Amazon. I received in in less than 48 hours with prime. I'm ready for camping the checklist is getting smaller. Regardless of the tent, you should always put a tarp over your tent for many reasons like birdshit, rain, sun rays, etc... The Teton tent is ranked #2 in the world for it's price so it's a steal of a deal. Get one because they are starting to get backorder everywhere. Some colors are already backorder on Amazon and other sites... for a good reason. It's the best tent money can buy a smart camping investment for the long term. This tent is insane and i'm glad I secured one A+++

I’m pretty shocked. This tent is basically the same as the MSR Hubb Hubba but for under $100. I haven’t commented in a while, but I was so shocked I had to say something.
I have had Teton Sports products in the past and never had any real issues with their products. It didn't surprise me at all that it didn't leak. Although I really don't "need" another tent. I am seriously considering buying this very tent. A cheaper spare that I know I can count on. A spare if someone is going with me that doesn't have a tent. I do agree about this tent needing to have a pull out where you said for added ventilation. Would probably solve the ponding issue at the same time. If I do buy it, I think maybe I will take a couple of my tarp clips and stake those out. If my theory is correct I will have solved 2 problems at once. Dang! Now I have to go out and buy one just because I have to know.

Good stuff. Sounds like a great entry level tent for people looking to experience some hiking and camping without breaking the bank. Color looks really nice for hunting season in my area. For the price and warranty You can't go wrong.

I bought mine based on your reviews. GREAT tent! On the 3 and 4 man versions you can pull the fly away from the body and they come with the 360 ventilation system giving you a vent on each side. No condensation with all the vents open
I saw that pool of water on the fly and thought "oh no this is going to be a bad one", glad to see that the tent held up. you are right Luke, there is a lack of quality products out there at a decent price-point, it seems that companies have jumped on the popularity bandwagon over the past ten tears or so, quality has fallen to manufacturing output and marketing, brands who once were symbolic of quality have fallen on their swords in blatant cost reduction measures. Well done to the crew at Teton sports for reversing this trend. Just a suggestion for night shots, can you do some shots with the tent lit from inside by a lantern in your rain test videos (I think you do some of those in your stealth series)...Great work as always.
I had bought a similar economy tent for bike touring by nature hike...so wish I had bought this instead. I noticed more head room and loft storage. I like the color also... 😂
I love seeing a good tent for a good price. I was thinking about how you mentioned the fly could use more room. That's one of the reasons I like tarp clips. They are handy for so many things. Great review!
I recently purchased the Teton Sports Vista 1 with the cot and large rain fly, I sat on it a while but after watching the Emporium Outdoors channel putting the tent through its paces in Manitoba I figured it would work for me. Glad I did! Held up well on a two nighter so far, for the price I really think Teton has a good thing going.

I almost sh*t my pants when I read the title of your review. I thought for sure you would open it up and a swimming pool would be waiting. Yes, I just bought one and it came yesterday. Thankfully, your review proved that I didn't make a mistake. Perhaps you can change the title of the review something like "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays this tent from the swift completion of it's appointed rounds" . Kind of catchy, don't you think?
This makes me excited for this brand as I recently bought their Explorer 4000 Backpack and have been looking at their other gear too. Might pull the trigger and get this as a backup to my hammock set up.
yeh.... I bought that backpack last yr for my girl whom was getting into hiking n camping with me....Didn't want to spend high end on a pack/sleeping bag for her till I knew she enjoyed(she does). I am so impressed with that pack honestly and also how the frame comes out if you don't want that depending on ur hike/camp. Enjoy it. Love how he reviewed this. Gd to know thier tents are good too. I wonder if a larger tent by them would be the same.
Getting back to hiking/trekking,being on a fixed budget your video is extremely helpful in keeping myself from making mistakes

I just got the Mountain Ultra 2 and I am very impressed. I set it up yesterday expecting rain overnight. Not only did we get rain, but a 1/2" of snow overnight as well. I was a little nervous when I went outside to see snow standing on the tent, however it was completely dry!
Sooo.. Would you recommend the Teton mountain ultra over the nature hike mongar?? I know the weight difference is significant. I do mostly motorcycle/car camping so weight is not a huge issue.

I've got a teton sport backpack and a Teton sport sleeping bag and I'm quite pleased with both qualities excellent performances excellent and I had a zipper break with Teton backpack they sent me a brand new one when I sent them a picture of the broken zipper no problems

Teton Sports Mountain Ultra 1 Tent Is Great!
Im not surprised. Ive been using their Talus 2700 Backpack for ADK and NH White Mtns peak bagging and its freakin awesome pack. Its priced perfectly. They seem to build great gear.
I love my Teton Sports products. They are a little on the heavy side, but the quality of of the products and price point really are impressive. Rather than a email, comment on their twitter account. They love it. Great video Luke. As always.

We have a range in UK called OEX and they are great for the money. The bobcat is a pitch outer first, I love this as you can use as a quick pitch shelter if caught in a rain storm, one main pole and four pegs and out of rain. Great review as always. I am always shocked by how good the quality is versus the price.

Just shows you, that a good tent can be made for a much cheaper premium. This is £120 in the UK so around $160USD, but still even for that price not bad at all.

I always Nikwax my rainfly. Actually l Nikwax everything including my cat and dog, the only exception is my bath towels👍.
I don't like the color choices of the fly: RED, GOLD, or GREY... why no brown, olive or camo? Nobody wants bright colors unless they are trying to get rescued..so this is now not at the top of my list.

Hi Luke, i have a Tent buyed here in Germany arround 80 € Freetime Alpes 2 i remember me, and for not to expensive it gave us dry nights in heavy rain. Sometimes there is good stuff out there for small money. Thanks for your Video! S&H Kalli

Anyone know the minimum weight? Of tent fly and poles? Packed weight seems rediculously heavy for a backpacking tent.
I have the Teton Vista 1 on the way from Amazon UK via USA , the Elite Rainfly is unfortunately not on Amazon and Teton's website doesnt offer international shipping but i contacted Teton via web form and they emailed me with a response to send them my address and they will work out shipping one to me. I have an Extremus camp cot ( we call them camp beds here in Scotland) i also got imported as all the local 1's are small , i will mod it with some bungees to extend the width a few inches and add a little extension to the end via some Aluminum tube/bar/butterfly bolts. Unfortunately the Outfitter XXL cot is not available for import. It might be worth doing a video of the Outfitter XXL with the Vista 1 and Elite fly , its a nice Cot Tent combo
I watch many reviews on products and then take them all and make a judgement call on which would match my needs. But when it comes to ANYTHING waterproof, I only really check this channel because of how thorough the tests are done. Thank you for helping me make my decision in ordering one of these in grey and they're still on sale for $90
