Even if you see how nature does it, first the mycelium that is inside the ground under a fat layer of dead materials it builds co2 and the pins form. The reason that they grow and get taller is that they want to reach oxygen, so they can spread their spores.

Some varieties like oysters need lots of fresh air so it can be good to drill holes in your fruiting container for those varieties. Thanks for watching! You don't need to add anything to that mix. A less nutritious substrate helps against contaminants. When you add other ingredients, the chance of contamination increases. Mushrooms will grow just fine on plain coir, or a coir and vermiculite mix.
I typically will mist and fan 1-2 times per day. Depending on your climate and set up you may need to mist more or less. Just keep an eye on the moisture levels in the tub, if it is drying out then give it a mist.

Hi thanks for the video. I would like to confirm something in relation to what you mentioned in the video. You mentioned that once you have added your colonised grain spawn to the cococoir, to then place the monotub in a place with indirect sunlight, and then wait for that to colonise? So from what you are saying the monotub doesn’t need to be in a dark place once you have mixed in the grain spawn with cococoir in order to colonise the substrate and then go straight into fruiting ? Also, question what do you believe is the optimal RH for cubensis ? Thanks
Correct, no air holes are needed. If you find your specific strains need more air you can absolutely add holes or fan it more. Every species and strain will vary
It is always best to use grain spawn when it is just fully colonized. The longer it sits fully colonized, the less vigorous it will become. I have heard of people freezing spawn and grow blocks. I'm sure it works with some species, but that is very risky. I usually just put my spawn in a cool room or the refrigerator if I'm not ready to use it yet. Just be careful with Pink Oyster because it will die if refrigerated.

@@ObakuZenCenter True, but most mushroom growers are commercial and will do anything to maximize yield.
Hey there!!! Any advice for rehydrating after your first flush?
I find that it's not all the necessary to soak after each flush. If I do soak, I just fill the tub with water and let it sit for 12-24 hours.. it's just not worth the effort imo. In my experience it's hit or miss weather it actually helps the second flush weight
@@MotherMycelium thank you for your response. I just soaked mine in my tub and it’s making me so nervous..I regretted it instantly 😭😣
@@jessie0078 not to worry! It's good to try it out and experiment for yourself
@@jessie0078 what happened after the soak? Ive been contemplating how tf you do it when its lined and fuckin 3 ft long if its a 61 qt, lol
@@chrishudson4940 i soaked my first batch and it got contaminated. So this second one I didn’t mess with it just light sprays and I was able to harvest 4 times from it.
Thanks
It's good to incubate grain and bulk substrates in the dark but it's not completely necessary.
For most species we use an rh of 75-85%
@@MotherMycelium Thanks for getting back to me. Much Appreciated
Can I use sawdust spawn
You can use sawdust spawn with this method. Some mushrooms do better than others in monotubs, but it's always worth an experiment to see for yourself
Is this a no touch mono tub? How often do you mist the inside
Yes this is a very simple technique. Typically don't need to spray at all but if you notice it drying out then definitely mist it
@@MotherMycelium so no air holes cut into the tub ? You just flip
The top lid ?
Correct, no air holes are needed. If you find your specific strains need more air you can absolutely add holes or fan it more. Every species and strain will vary
Is it possible to freeze grain spawn for future use?
It is always best to use grain spawn when it is just fully colonized. The longer it sits fully colonized, the less vigorous it will become. I have heard of people freezing spawn and grow blocks. I'm sure it works with some species, but that is very risky. I usually just put my spawn in a cool room or the refrigerator if I'm not ready to use it yet. Just be careful with Pink Oyster because it will die if refrigerated.
You really shouldn't put boiling water directly in a plastic container it's leaching all sorts of chemicals into your stuff
doesnt look fully colonized or healthy
Thank you for your input. The mushrooms I harvested from the tub would beg to differ 🍄
how many times do i have to water spray and give air in a day?
