    First time in my life i hear that the mycelium need so much fresh air to expand. i thought that until the pining, you require more CO2 than the rest of the fruiting process. Even if you see how nature does it, first the mycelium that is inside the ground under a fat layer of dead materials it builds co2 and the pins form. The reason that they grow and get taller is that they want to reach oxygen, so they can spread their spores.

    Last night I grated down some brf cakes and added it to some hydrated coco. Instead of using a plastic tub, I'm trying a 10 gallon terrarium. I'm gonna play by ear to see how well it holds humidity and make it up as I go from there. I have a few other tubs goin. I just thought I'd try the glass terrarium with the mesh top and see how that does, ya know? For science

      It's neither "faster" nor "slower" in the dark, as mycelium doesn't use light to grow, and (indirect) light won't hurt it. So there's no impact in that regard. Fanning may, however, by altering molecular concentrations in the air (O2, CO2, %RH).

    This seems like a neglect type of tek, Fyi I am not trying to come off rude at all just informative, I’m just wondering why your sub hight is so low, that would cause fast dehydration of your grow it should be around at least 3-4 inches in hight, there should also be a casing layer to better prevent contamination, as well as pasteurizing your coir to help with that as well, one last thing is using a liner would prevent side pinning by all means I am no expert but I have been growing mushrooms for the past 5 years so I hope this helps!

      To keep it simple indirect natural light is good for most mushroom varieties. Depending on the variety you may need to fan more or less than twice per day. Some varieties like oysters need lots of fresh air so it can be good to drill holes in your fruiting container for those varieties. Thanks for watching! I would not recommend using liquid culture in place of grain spawn. There are many reasons grain spawn is typically used to inoculate bulk substrates. The grain acts as a nutritional reservoir for the mycelium to thrive in it's new substrate. Each grain also acts as an individual inoculation point which will help the mycelium colonize the substrate faster and avoid contamination.

    • @MotherMycelium
      @MotherMycelium  Месяц назад +1

      I typically go with 1:1 or 2:1 sub to grain (by weight). For example, 1000g substrate and 1000g grain spawn or 1000g sub and 500g grain spawn.
      It doesn't have to be perfect, if you get somewhere in that ballpark you'll be set. If you want faster colonization you can use a higher inoculation rate. Thanks for watching! 🍄🌍

    • @ColMustard513
      @ColMustard513 Месяц назад +1

      2:1 is the MINIMUM from almost all literature. Most will recommend 3:1.

      @@ColMustard513 Thanks for the info! Some of the recommendations on incoualtion can be confusing because many people use volume instead of weight. I prefer to use weight so a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio by weight is typically a good starting point. But as you say it depends on the variety you are growing as well.

      @Erik James agreed, you can get away with no fanning or misting if your tub is proper. It depends on what kind of mushrooms you're growing, but the main thing to keep in mind is that you really want to avoid letting it go anaerobic if you're using an unmodified tub.

    I see alcohol being sprayed religiously in pretty much every single mushroom video.
    You don't need to do that constantly and on everything. Spraying the jar is next to useless if it hasn't left the workbench/room. If the glass itself is contaminated, you've got problems no amount of alcohol will solve.
    2:05 What's happening right now is the primary source of contamination, if it becomes contaminated. Breathing right on top of it. This should be done in a laminar box or a makeshift one if you find a good enough air filter.

      In fact there is virtually no need for sterile technique once the mycelium has fully colonized the grain. The mycelium at this point, if it's clean, has it's own inbuilt defense against contaminants. You can mix the substrate and spawn with your bare hands and it's likely fine as long you've washed them. Using ISO and gloves is still good but really the chances of contamination at this stage are minimal, so long as the substrate and spawn are not already contaminated. Check out the recommended teks on the shroomery website for why this is the case.

    Hi thanks for the video. I would like to confirm something in relation to what you mentioned in the video.
    You mentioned that once you have added your colonised grain spawn to the cococoir, to then place the monotub in a place with indirect sunlight, and then wait for that to colonise?
    So from what you are saying the monotub doesn’t need to be in a dark place once you have mixed in the grain spawn with cococoir in order to colonise the substrate and then go straight into fruiting ?
    Also, question what do you believe is the optimal RH for cubensis ?
    Thanks

    Is it possible to freeze grain spawn for future use?

    • @MotherMycelium
      @MotherMycelium  2 года назад +2

      It is always best to use grain spawn when it is just fully colonized. The longer it sits fully colonized, the less vigorous it will become. I have heard of people freezing spawn and grow blocks. I'm sure it works with some species, but that is very risky. I usually just put my spawn in a cool room or the refrigerator if I'm not ready to use it yet. Just be careful with Pink Oyster because it will die if refrigerated.
