Windows comes with a very slow content search. You can try Docfetcher or Anytxt, they are both free and you will get search results just in 1 second, good luck.

Ok for setting up search (but not enough details if you want to specify WHERE to build the index so as to have enough space and use fast SSD), but didn't really address the title "How to Search..." Not even 1 example of finding, say, pdf files with "art" in their name on D: drive, but NOT E; drive modified between date1 and date2.

Because those idiots at Microsoft needs jobs, so they busy themselves with making things "powerful" instead of making things "intuitive." Cuz they had the "intuitive" thing down in XP, so to make things more intuitive would be either staying the same or going backwards. This would lose them jobs.
exactly!! lol....they always make shit more complicated, but then the next system will be easier so then people will have to download it...but the one after that will be shitty...and on it goes,,,this keeps their name out there and them in business. i wish i can go back to windows 7

Ahh finally, thank you so much. I don't know if the default indexed locations for searching in file explorer on Windows are really dumb or if I just somehow unknowingly unchecked all local disks and instead checked only internet explorer history and some random directory on C:\. This was very helpful. You've earned a like from me.

Those first Control Panel options don't exist in my updated Win 10 version 1909 system.
I got the Folder Options window by going to File Explorer -> View -> Options -> Change folder and search options.
All good with Indexing Options on the Control Panel.

Microsoft really re-invented the wheel when it comes to searching files on your PC

Maybe they're saving that for Win11
It really depends on whether you do a lot of searching in particular folders. This method of indexing makes it more efficient. The Win XP method was ok for folders that you'll only ever search once - although it couldn't find text in a PDF file (Win 10 can). Why doesn't Microsloth provide both methods?
Overall, the File Explorer in Win 10 is a big downgrade from Windows Explorer in XP.

Waaaaay too complex. How do I do it like I did in Windows 7? Just enter a document name in the search box.
always. right click on file, search option, write a name you seek and search. Why the fckers changed this ideal method, idk. fckrs must fck things up
maybe it work if you forgot the file name, like me :(
Be careful with this method, it may cause unexpected problems if you're not aware of what you're doing😢.
But if you use it in the right way, it'll save you tones of time and efforts 😁, it's worth trying.

how can I find lets say: I want w10 to search all filenames, that are .pdf files (well, pdf extention)for the word "sales", so it would find for examp. "sales managment.pdf" and "sales and money.pdf" but it would not show me "sales for all.doc". Any ideas?
+ValmisFilm From index options go to advance settings and let only pdf files to be searched. after you finish your job you can restore the default index settings.

this method did nothing for my search. I would like to delete all files with "(1)" this is impossible because it will find all the files and put a yellow color on every instance off 1 on my computer. why does it not search for what I am looking for? can the system not tell the difference between numbers? "(1)" 1, 11, 111, 1111, 01, 10,1000. these are all different why do they show up? If you ask someone what did they look like and they say they had arms and legs and a face with mouth. its not help!!@!

Windows 10 and still not a simple search method, i dont think they ever will have a good searcher wtf is file explorer? its worse than windows xp hahaha, why can mac make things so easy but windows has to make it so ridiculously hard to find.
While I appreciate that you have tried, I cannot understand the words used because of the broadness of the accent. In Windows XP and previous Windows versions there was a simple search facility from the start menu... Search> find files and folders> and it was done!
Should there not be something similar in Windows 10? I used this do this dozens of times each day, but I have been unable to find files without laborious searching for the past four years!
