I think carl92 made this snippet of a “song” (either through a software or with actual instruments and drum machines, literally no one knows) and recorded it off of an old crt tv, using an old camcorder. I think it’s a deliberate experiment to test how gullible people can be online and how chaotic the lost media community is. The 1999 dvd file and all the other specifics he provided are just bait for people to dig deeper. I used to think there was a happy ending to this case but there are some people out there who despise what the community is doing to try and preserve media. It sucks so much time has been wasted on it if this is the reality. I am hoping for someone to prove my theory wrong

I know exactly where it is. And PROMISE you will search for it as hard as you do this song and NEVER come across it. It is very much real. I could even record a small snippet of this song and upload it and can almost guarantee nobody would know where it is or what film it’s from. My motive isn’t to start a new search for it. My motive here is to, again, reiterate this search is limited to the same few people doing the same few things. Thinking it’s a band, thinking they have an album, thinking it’s from a record and the words are just not being written right. I’m relatively confident in saying this is stock music from an 80s production that is not steaming or has been sparingly digitized. THAT is why you’ve not found it. Not because it’s a hoax. And that’s where this search is failing, in my eyes. People are missing very obvious clues left by Carl92. The song was recorded off a TV. And there are very few mediums that would have been able to get audio on a TV in 1998-1999. And let me say-DVD was VERY new then. Leaving you a television station OR-my best guess-A VHS. Find VHS tapes produced from 1984-1999ish (key in about 1987ish) and start looking. Again, I only mildly follow this search, but so many people are missing massive clues to where this came from and, more importantly, why it’s not on the internet. Start looking in microfilmed newspapers from 1999 in Spain. See what TV stations were playing 80s films. They used to list the stations daily, I’m sure. There can’t be that many stations in Spain that showed that many movies from the 80s from 1998-1999. I even suggest looking into the fact USA Up All Night played 80s films galore-and had a Spanish language version. I honestly wish I cared enough to do it myself. But someone might. All I can do is hope someone realizes this isn’t necessarily a hoax. It’s simply tucked away somewhere and Carl, like myself, isn’t that concerned with the solution. Happy hunting.

Really well made video, and an actually good theory. Not sure if I believe it but it’s certainly plausible. All I do know is that even though the subreddit is at almost 35k members we won’t get anything out of it. Half the people there are blatantly ignorant, and the other half act like pretentious 14 year olds.
This makes me think about the legitimacy of some of these lost song posts. Not necessarily that the OP created the song, but that they may have simply posted an unreleased song they had access to. As someone who has spent time in the Vaporwave, Eccojams, New Retro Wave, and Future Funk scene for over a decade, my guess is Carl92 made the sample. You hear this type of stuff all the time and much of it is original works.
Adding one final note: Carl distinctly said he was backing up files to DVD. Not MP3 or audio. But DVD. As to why he would be doing that? Obviously, he would be moving movie files onto a disc. And, it’s very possible, he had recorded the ending credits or a snippet of a film with a camcorder. Or other device. Perhaps a pirated copy which might be why he doesn’t want to implicate himself. Bear in mind: the NTSC signal would ALSO be present on NA VHS from that time. Even if the tape was a rescored PAL tape, playing on a PAL device, if the TV was NTSC, the signal would be present.

Really well made video, and an actually good theory. Not sure if I believe it but it’s certainly plausible. All I do know is that even though the subreddit is at almost 35k members we won’t get anything out of it. This makes me think about the legitimacy of some of these lost song posts. Not necessarily that the OP created the song, but that they may have simply posted an unreleased song they had access to. For example, my parents have CDs of my late uncle's gospel songs that i think he wrote for the church (he was a pastor). Now i could very easily post a snippet of one and send people on a wild goose chase for a song only i have

watzatsong has been hacked multiple times (due to the sites crappy security) and carls post was no exception to that. some troll most likely jst wanted to mess with people changing carls post to think that he’d returned or smtg. i doubt carl made it, due to all the 80s instruments. (lin drum and others) i doubt he could’ve known that the song would spike in popularity so why go through all the trouble? the “other” version of the song (which for the life of me i cannot find) is most likely some remaster added by someone when watzatsong got hacked. good video tho!!

Carl distinctly said he was backing up files to DVD. Not MP3 or audio. But DVD. As to why he would be doing that? Obviously, he would be moving movie files onto a disc.
And, it’s very possible, he had recorded the ending credits or a snippet of a film with a camcorder. Or other device. Perhaps a pirated copy which might be why he doesn’t want to implicate himself.
Bear in mind: the NTSC signal would ALSO be present on NA VHS from that time. Even if the tape was a rescored PAL tape, playing on a PAL device, if the TV was NTSC, the signal would be present.
