Brazil is a huge country, I'm from Brazil and I've never been in Rio de Janeiro, the city where I live is so different that you probably can't tell is the same country, only the language is the same (ok maybe I'm exaggerating a bit). But seriously Rio de Janeiro is a very special city that have the essence of the brazilian festivals but in day to day isn't all party and semi-naked women, at least isn't like that in the whole country.

Just a friendly piece of advice for Pete or whoever else is planning on visiting Brasil one day, from a guy who lives around here:
Brasil is not just about naked women, beaches, carnival and jungles. Most foreigners have this misconception, but the truth is that all cities are different. Traveling 2 hours anywyere by car, you may find yourself lost in a complete "new world". There is a lot of technology, culture and history to be explored, aside obvious touristic attractions centered only around Rio de Janeiro. I would honestly suggest you all to go to the north, and hit the beaches around Recife, Salvador, Angra dos Reis, Maceio and so on. Don´t just follow myths and hypes. Be creative, investigate first, and of course, have fun. :) Cheers from São Paulo.
