    Barret: Hey, how the hell do we fight this thing?
    Cloud: Observe.

    Nice! It's pretty cool to see how this demo fight is getting broken down and done with restriction challenges. I'm looking forward to see more videos like this for other fights in the whole game.

    Eyyy, great to see ya.
    Does this imply that you may make some guides for this game?
    Not to put you on the spot.
    Good stuff as usual.

      Every time I say that I'm going to make more videos, the end result is that I make at best 1-3 videos and then go on a 6 month hiatus :P
      That said, it largely depends on how much I'll end up liking the game. This demo shows promise, but I have some pretty substantial concerns about a number of things. They could nail it, but it could go wrong in so many ways...

      To be fair, I enjoy your guides so much that I'll take even a single video.
      The important thing is to not stress yourself out.
      I am interested in hearing what your impressions are on the core gameplay the demo presents here though.
      Thank you for the response,
      Good stuff as usual

      Asetoni FFXV what are some of your concerns?

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  4 года назад +5

      @@mpfree325 It's a tough subject because we've seen such a short slice of the game, but my biggest concerns are with the "defensive systems" being questionable (block only mitigates 50% damage, roll has no I-frames, even parry makes you take chip damage, little to no animation canceling) and a noticeable lack of interesting offensive move synergy (there is basically almost no combo potential worth considering from what we've seen in the demo).
      I am not the first one to say this: This game isn't really an action RPG, it's an RPG with action elements. Here it moreso becomes a question of preference, and I vastly prefer action gameplay over stat-reliant RPG systems. There's a reason why I've made dozens of moveset/mechanics guides, while the two "build guides" on my channel are meme videos.
      But disregarding my personal tastes because nobody cares, what bothers me on a more objective level is that I still don't know what this combat system is about. We have all these action game systems there and they are the most involved part of the gameplay, they just suck from an effectiveness standpoint. Did they neuter your combat options to force even skilled players to rely on RPG mechanics? Or is this an attempt to blend action combat and RPG systems more in a new gameplay style? Is it a bad action game with a shitty RPG band-aid, or an innovative new combat system? I don't know. You don't know. Random Reddit guy doesn't know (even tho he thinks he has it all figured out).
      Things like the garbage dodge roll and unnecessarily lengthy attack flourishes suggest the former. "Fuck you, you're not supposed to evade attacks. When the enemy attacks, you take damage, just like in 1997." "No comboing allowed, this is a game where you pick a single move from a list and watch a flashy animation!"
      But then we have stuff like the parry that, while it doesn't negate the attack and open them up to a massive counter, it builds a lot of stagger and give you almost a full ATB bar. Or how choosing from which direction to attack the boss has a huge impact on how they attack you and your limited ways to mitigate damage. These suggest a more well-made system where action mechanics are blended with the RPG mechanics in a way that encourages their use. In a traditional action game you block to mitigate attacks, in FFVII Remake you block to build up ATB. In a way, *block is an offensive move.* It sounds super backwards, but if both systems do an equally good job at encouraging the use of block, then there is no reason to think that FFVII Remake's system doesn't reward and encourage skillful action gameplay. Just because something is different doesn't make it bad.
      And we cannot tell which it is based on this demo. It's too short. It's too narrow of a slice. We do not know, and if you think you do, you're just having tunnel vision. All we can do is wait and see.
      In addition to all that I have a lot of minor gripes like the movement being unresponsive, the camera being kinda bad (even when you change it in the settings), too many particle effects, finicky lock on, but nothing worth pulling my hair out.

      Asetoni FFXV Really good to see you back and awesome to hear your take. Having just finished the demo myself, I came to this video right after cuz I couldn’t watch it when you first dropped it due to spoilers. I don’t know how I made it all the way to the end with all that blood rushing directly to my penis. To one of your points, they do mention in the instructions that some moves can’t be blocked, which will require you to dodge, so they do seem to expect you to utilize timing and technical skill as in a proper action game. But as you said, the roll is ass. I often found myself unable to avoid the aoe electrical attack even when I anticipated it. Though that could have been my fault. In any case, will you possibly cover Type-0? I enjoy that game immensely and imagine you could get absorbed in the challenging gameplay.

    After some plays I feel the stagger system will make playing optimally quite linear (mainly againts bosses), there's no point in using Braver & Limit while they are not staggered because they will do little damage and the most efficient way of building stagger is using Focused Thrust (and other high stagger moves) and then you can use your high damage attacks.

      Yeah, I'm hoping that with more materia there will be more varied offensive effects because right now, once you know what the abilities do, the decision makes itself.
      Though, rule #1 of unreleased SE games: Never expect something to be in the game that hasn't been explicitly shown in a trailer.

      Given how I've seen way too many posts online about how this boss is a complete damage sponge that takes too long to kill (despite that clearly not being the case) I don't know what to think honestly. Apparently the implementation of the systems is enough so there is already a noticeable skill difference in good players and bad players. I mean I tend to agree with ya'll but fuck I dunno.
      One thing I will say is the normal enemy design is better than I was expecting (especially after FF15 where so many enemies pissed me off as I know I've bitched about on Asetoni's videos way too many times lmao.) The enemies actually felt like they meshed well with the combat systems of the game and it didn't just boil down to stagger as fast as possible and then kill.

    I'm so glad you'll be coming back. Do you know if it's possible to take zero damage this fight or is it impossible?

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  4 года назад +3

      I thought it to be impossible when I did this, because the missile barrage is completely unavoidable. However, someone found a way to optimize stagger damage to the point where they could stagger the boss before it ever got the chance to use it: ruclips.net/video/UyzhkEGWCS0/видео.html
      I doubt this will be possible for most fights in the final game tho. Given that blocking and even parry make you take chip damage, the game clearly isn't designed for you to be able to avoid damage entirely.

      Barret has Cure though, which would actually probably make it easier. Though, maybe I'll try a no-Cure challenge...
