I was a vinyl hip hop/dancehall dj in the 90s, getting back in the game...bought 2 Audio Technica LP120s and the scratch, with Serato DJ Pro...I love the features and the lineup on the Scratch...easy to use and spin with! Only belly-ache that I have, as an old-schooler would be that it doesn't have the old "rack mount" design the old mixers do...I have to put 2 hardcover books under my mixer to line up with my turntables in cases. A small drawback, but I still highly recommend it!!

I honestly agree with you on the name. I almost didn't check out the video because judging by the name I was honestly just expecting a very simple 2 channel battle mixer with no effects or anything like that.

Indeed. They also rocked the direct drive turntable market with the release of the NTX1000. For the price and the options available on the deck itself, the NUMARK is where it's at.
I have DXMPRO w 24bit & 48k spdif for 10 years and I love it SOO much!!! NO issues (except soldering litle phono switch and loosing feets) under heavy usage. Stock crossfader still perfect, but the line faders are the same parts! Despite its low price it sounds fine in a club. Now my dream of Z2 could change.. hmm..

At first glance, I only have one wish for this mixer - I wish the phono/line switch was on top, not on the back, because I currently use that on my vestax mixer to swtich between a turntable and a drum machine plugged into the line input on the left side, and on the right side it switches between the turntable and an iphone input. It's probably not that big of a deal, but that would be the first thing to get me annoyed with it. Otherwise, I want it now.

Numark are a brand I've had a good relationship with in terms of the hardware that I have bought from them,however the rest of the scope of their lineup has been pretty confusing for me as a consumer. They seem to have positioned themselves after a few years of trying to cover almost every financial point of beginner DJing to semi pro DJing , however without much focus on any of the major stops in between. I think your criticism of the branding is spot-on: I think that they are trying to directly reach a target audience, rather than building a brand identity for themselves within said audience, which in terms of consumer confidence can be just as important, in my opinion.

Upgraded to an Innofader PNP2 bus was disappointed to find out that the faceplate hole for the fader stem was not wide enough to accommodate a full size fader. My fader stem is now hitting metal on the sides and cut in adjustments pretty much have to be tuned for more dead space...I hate it!

Excellent review, this mixer is a nice alternative to the Rane 72 or the Pioneer S9. I'm liking this Numark 'Scratch' even more than my Traktor Kontrol Z2 and the price is sweet.
I wanted a Reloop Elite, but for like $400 less than the price of one of those I just picked up a Reloop RP8000 MK2 + one of these. These are a hellova deal.
This and the mixars duo is now the same price. Which one would you go with? I'm thinking the mixars the only minus I see is no post fader effects on the crossfader

I was rooting for a Mixars Duo but I really like this mixer and was thinking in using it together with a Reloop Neon instead but I have an issue with the fact that there's only one switchable entrance for Line In and Phono. I really like your reviews and find them really honest and to the point so I was wondering what you would say about that. I know it's been a year now but maybe you have 5 minutes to share your thoughts on that, it would be extremely helpful. Still looking for a Duo with the Innofader in second hand though. Cheers!

Post Crossfader Serato effects for under $500?! This mixer is in a league of its own with the S3 and Mixars Duo only having post fader effects on the upfaders. would have loved to see a usb hub on it but this is already a bargain and the go to Serato mixer on a budget
Is there a button you can press while pressing the pads that will make them trigger cue's 5-8? This + 2 PT01 Scratch's would be an awesome way for me to jump into vinyl without dropping too much $$$$. Would love if it can somehow access all 8 pads in Serato.
I would look into the audio technica lp1240. That's the best bang for buck. Reloop Rp-8000's, Reloop RP-7000's, Pioneer PLX-1000, Stanton ST-150's, Mixars, Audio Technica LP1240's, all have the same hanpin motors. The Denon turntable was engineered from the ground up so that turntable doesn't have a hanpin motor and also the new technics turntables. I see a lot of DJs that could get down on those 7" portables but give them a 12" record and some of them can't scratch as well with a 12" record. I been scratching on and off since 1994. I worked at a burger King and saved all my money to get my first kit.

Not sure if this is a dumb question... but does fx like echo and delay work with traditional vinyl. I just had a Pioneer DJM 250 stolen from my car and this may be the replacement.
The Filter knob works on with or without Serato but the echo, delay, flanger, reverb, version echo, and phaser effects are all software effects and require Serato to work.
@@MrAlpunx Yes, they are linked to Serato's cue, sample, and roll functions. They won't work with vinyl. The Filter knob is the only FX that will work with vinyl (and no Serato).
I would probably look at Numark's M6 (it's 4 channel) since you're more vinyl over digital. I have that mixer for when I do all vinyl sets and don't want a million buttons on the mixer I can't use. I used the Numark Scratch for digital stuff but recently upgraded to the S7 for the bigger paddles and 16 pads.
Does serato get fully unlocked or is it only for use with scratch? If I buy this, can I take this serato version to a venue that has an s9 and be compatible? Just making sure it's not proprietary to numark scratch only mixer

I run mine on an HP laptop (Win 10 Pro) and Macbook Pro and have had no problems with neither. Make sure the PC/Mac is purely for DJ'ing and uninstall any unneeded programs to keep things running smooth.

Numark faders are terrible in my experience. Nice to see it comes with an Inno for the xfader. I certainly hope the channel faders are Inno as well. If not, they will fail after a few months like every Numark device I have owned. That being said, big ups to Numark for trying to make turntablism more affordable for the bedroom DJ's.

DJ Keo they have LINE/PHONO and a PC switch. Looks like of you want to switch between a turntable and CDJ you would have to disconnect one for the other. I guess its ideal for someone who only uses one or the other.
The DUO is quite a bit more expensive, as is the Kontrol Z2 (at its regular selling price), although obviously they were on my mind when doing the review still.
That Mixars is a tight copy of the Z2, Which im use too... But Mapping a Z2 for Serato, takes WORK.... AND You have to Open, Load, and Keep open, the Controller editor for the Z2, while using Serato..... This thing here (The Numark)... Plug and Play.... and Under $1000.... Um.... Yes, Please!
exactly what jai said. plug and play, all buttons and knob are totally remapable so easily and it saves all your settings for your custom midi mapping.

Z2 is the daddy but it was discontinued, meaning no real support from now on from NI. Z2 really is the daddy tho

Can you scroll Serato Library on mixer?
Yes by holding shift on the mixer and then use the loop encoder to scrool through your library. Click the loop encoder to load the track to your deck.

All the effects (except filter) are software. No analog echo. Part of why they can charge so little.

Hold the Shift button and double-press the Loop knob. The selected track in your library will be loaded to both decks.
So could I buy the mixer, install the free pro software on laptop and plug USB in without using an interface box?
Late reply but yes plug and play via USB unlocks SDJ Pro and DVS license.

The line-faders are no innofaders. I have mine for at least and and a half years now and have zero technical issues with the line faders so far.

How do you start play of a track?
its not a controller, is a dvs ready mixer. although you can use the cue buttons.
@@billygrctv6698 I know, I use a DDJ SX3 and have a Numark M6 as a emergency line mixer, just wondering if you hooked up a laptop how one could play the track. I guess launch with mouse.
Did I miss something there is no aux channel? Otherwise this is an amazing value great review as usual.
DJ Keo they have LINE/PHONO and a PC switch. Looks like of you want to switch between a turntable and CDJ you would have to disconnect one for the other. I guess its ideal for someone who only uses one or the other.

You totally forgot about the mixars duo which is way more comparable to this^^ The pioneer djm s3 is cool and all... but yeah....
The DUO is quite a bit more expensive, as is the Kontrol Z2 (at its regular selling price), although obviously they were on my mind when doing the review still.
I dont know about uk prices... but where Im from its the same price as a z2 and its only a little bit cheaper than a mixars duo mk2 :)
The real question: Numark Scratch or Mixars Duo Mk2?

That Mixars is a tight copy of the Z2, Which im use too... But Mapping a Z2 for Serato, takes WORK.... AND You have to Open, Load, and Keep open, the Controller editor for the Z2, while using Serato..... This thing here (The Numark)... Plug and Play.... and Under $1000.... Um.... Yes, Please!
exactly what jai said. plug and play, all buttons and knob are totally remapable so easily and it saves all your settings for your custom midi mapping.
