Won't those DMs end up in spam though ? Filter is very tight nowadays. I've basically been putting my important links in highlights and sending people there

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I feel like people are gonna catch on and it's gonna become even more spammy than sending them to your profile to click the link in your bio
