Same. I thought that any sand, like sandy beaches or paths, was quicksand. So I was scared of anything with sand. I wouldn't even play in playground sandboxes. I soon got over my fear. Now I love sand, especially warm sand next to some waves from the ocean.

There is a huge problem with the acetone theory: the concentration. Acetone is almost never in high enough amounts to actually catch fire like this. It’s only ever noticeable when the patient is going through keto-acidosis, a severe medical condition often found in diabetics, but I’ve never heard of a person producing enough acetone to ignite.

The wick effect was reproduced in an laboratory experiment to have the same results as the victims of the “spontaneous human combustion” so I don’t know why this video is so dismissive of it.

My theory is that it's a combination of gases in a human body and some partical that we haven't discovered yet that passes thru the body creating very fast energy burst . Also It makes sense that it happens in a split seconds ,that's why the house doesn't set on fire. We have particals passing thru our bodies all the time . Some can go thru solid rocks with ease. You know how some gloves made for extremely hot surfaces shrink from the heat? Maybe that happened with her skull. The fire was so hot, instead of exploding, the head shrunk.

Exactly, SHC: Time x Heat (Fuel source), the shrunken skull is quite a telling clue. Scientifically one could experiment and determine what it would take to cause such a thing to happen.
I know im 2yrs late but has anyone who knows about ball lighting looked at these cases? Did the ashes have any signs that they could have been caused by lighting? I've heard that people have seen ball lighting in their houses.

The last theory seems plausible but I guess the wicker one could too. I think I heard about the last one with the static electricity people moving around in their beds, chairs couches could cause a spark. I didn't know about the acetone occurring in our bodies naturally but thinking about it I think that could be the solution.

I remember seeing a man in a documentary where a man caught fire spontaneously in front of a friend who helped put him out. Then it happened AGAIN the next day and his friend again put him out. He has no idea. I think it’s God’s wrath.

I watched a documentary on this. Every single "spontaneous combustion" case had an alternate means of happening. One very similar to the woman one was an old man who was in a rocking chair burned up exactly like the woman just his feet left. His son admitted he had a a habit of falling asleep with a cigarette in his mouth.
As to the temps and speed: basically it's called the "wick affect" and because your body is layered in fat, under the right circumstances it can act as fuel for the fire.
The strangest one that I've heard about is a man and his wife walking along the beach and he had a tissue paper and a seashell in his pocket that he had collected. It caught fire and burned his leg and ruined the jeans he was wearing. Apparently the tissue, and seashell had chemicals to act as fuel and just needed a heat source which turned out to be the friction and the sun. Crazy but still not spontaneous combustion.
Also, back in Victorian times some of the earliest synthetic cloth and plastics were made out of highly combustible nitrocellulose, which also could be a factor.
