    This video gave me the confidence to change my rear shock on my 2012 nc700x today. I'm at 46,000 U.S. miles. On a recent ride it started feeling strange on bumpy roads. I'm assuming the damper gave out. Too grimy to tell if it was leaking. So I bought what looked to me a gently used oem shock off ebay. $60 U.S. (I'm on a real strict budget) Pulling up side panel etc to get at the top bolt is very similar to the 750. My test ride was positive. Thanks.

    Recently orderer my rear shock from YSS (not the one you're mounting here). I think I willl mount it by myself. Your voice transmits me calm and peace. When I am mounting something always some stuff go wrong or I dont have the correct tools and I have to use anything and starting to blaspheme. The nc700x is an excellent bike with a seat directly from hell and a stock rear shock from Lego. I think it' cannot handle the weight of the bike and a passenger near 1,80m and beyond 100kg for some years.

    Hi. First post for me on your channel. Fantastic content. I wish I had just a speck of your skills 😁. Love it when you make your own solutions or improvements. I just bought a 2021 dct. The original owner did a lot of good mods and one of them is a remote preload adjuster similar to the one you are installing on this video. This is the fiest time I don’t have to use a c spanner on my bike, so i was wondering if you could help me out please. The adjuster doesn’t click like others i’ve seen do. You measure the amount of preload with a 1 to 5 scale etched or printed on it. So my question is: it it normal that as you add preload it becomes considerably harder to turn the adjustment knob? It goes easy down to 2-2.5, but then it gets very hard and it stops between 3.5 and 4. I hope that made sense 😅. Thank you very much

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff
      @AfricaTwin-Stuff  Год назад +1

      Yes. It gets harder to turn as you increase preload. It’s easier to adjust with the bike on the centre stand to take the weight off the shock.
      The adjustment is just a screw that forces oil out of the reservoir into the top of the shock to push the spring down. So in makes sense that it gets harder as you screw it in.
      Click? The “clicks” on mine are almost inaudible. I just could turns.

      @@AfricaTwin-Stuff i sprayed wd40 onto the shock where it slides up and down and to the screw on the remote adjuster. Waited 30 minutes and it now works perfectly. I get the full range of adjustment, can feel the famous clicks as i turn and even though it gets a bit harder as i compress the spring, it’s manageable and what i would have expected it to be like. Thank you 🙏

    Many thanks for fun and usefull video! Qould you please consider my problem. I lowered the NC 750X and now I would like to upgrade the rear chock. I.e. I have a related tech question: Can the after market rear shock -suspension, like YSS MZ456-305TR-34, be fitted on a lowered NC 750, or does the bike has to be brought back to its factory height (by returning the shorter, orginal dog-link bones)? Also, pls do recommend a budget rear shock upgrade. Thank you!

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff
      @AfricaTwin-Stuff  6 месяцев назад +1

      Lowering the bike is done with longer dog bones. It doesn’t affect the shock length.
      So buy whatever shock brand that fits the standard bike.

    • @mladenmomcilovicnbg
      @mladenmomcilovicnbg 6 месяцев назад

      Good. So, YSS MZ 456 305 TRL 34, bit shorter than the OEM, will not bring the bike further down, as advised by some on FB NC750 forum? Also, do you recomend this or YSS MZ 506 310 TRL 43, they appear similar, the first appear 7mm shorter han the OEM while the second is the same or 2mm lower that the OEM. Or should I go for a third one? Why I am concerned- i am a bigbloke and my current OEM rear suspension is very bad, yet if my already lowered bike, for 25mm, goes further down due to a wrong choice of aftermarket shock I may end up having not usable bike. Thanks! @@AfricaTwin-Stuff

    If you have a moment I'd love to get your thoughts on the YSS shock in regards to touring. I've personally never done any touring however I recently loaded my NC with camping stuff and was concerned about the sag and different handling characteristics during my initial test ride. Since you seem to do a lot of touring I'd love to know if you find that the YSS upgrade makes a significant difference with the added weight of all your gear. I'd also be curious to know what sort of adjustments you are making on the shock in "touring mode". By the way I'm not planning on doing any off-road touring. In fact I'm fine with the performance with the stock shock, aside from adding a passenger or gear for overnight trips. Thanks in advance for your input! :)

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff
      @AfricaTwin-Stuff  4 года назад

      The biggest a benefit for touring is the ability of easily adjusting the spring preload to cope with the extra weight.
      I also notice the better damping (less pogo effect) when loaded up.

    • @Richard-dh8ny
      @Richard-dh8ny 4 года назад

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff
      @AfricaTwin-Stuff  4 года назад +1

      Yes. Still happy. But I suspect any brand name aftermarket shock will be an improvement.

      Cheap = poor results, when it comes to cameras. I use GoPro. The 7 upward has good stabilisation so if you film while riding you don’t get car sick watching the results.
      I’ve got no experience with other camera brands. Sorry.
      I only film a few seconds at a time so can make a battery last all day and a 64gb card last more than a 14 day trip (1080 at 60fps). But of course battery and card usage will depend how YOU decide to use it.

    IMO, a cartridge for 500$ is much better than valves +springs for 300$ because you can change rebound and compression on the fly. As we all know comp preload used only for sag setup but damping helps to fine tune the fork according to a surface quality.

    10:25 I'm sorry mate but I guess you left off the part where you took a sample of the old grease to a chemist and verified that the new grease was compatible - if not the two may soon cancel each other out causing the new shock to completely fail in a month or two. ;-)

      Oh. You are a chemist! Thanks.
      That grease I’ve been using for 30 years is about to fail. Thanks for the heads up.

    What tyres are you running ?

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff
      @AfricaTwin-Stuff  2 года назад

      Tyres? Currently it’s Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2. These are basically road tyres with a slightly stronger carcass to cope with the occasional gravel road.
      Not very long wearing but good grip.

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff

      Unfortunately diagnosing this problem is impossible without actually being on and with the bike.
      It could be many things from worn tires, wheel bearings, chain and sprockets, loose engine mounts .... the list goes on.

    • @PrimoStracciatella
      @PrimoStracciatella 4 месяца назад

      @@AfricaTwin-Stuff That was my first thought, loose engine mounts. Check all bolts, also on your frame.
