Hi Kyle. Thanks for sharing this. Although you shared this in 2015, what you did have helped me now in 2020. You deserved more than a million views because you been so helpful to us now that we are in lockdown state, now that I need to record my sermon so to reach other people through radio. The way you share it was very good. Thank you so much.
Up and coming rapper here, got tired of paying for studio time and wanted to learn how to record on my own , this video was very helpful bro! Thanks a lot
Kyle Stedman YOU are a man who has a talent to teach people the easy way about a subject that can baffle most of us, great job mate. Regards, A boy from Brisbane Australia.
Thank you so much! I really appreciated how quickly you moved and the way you covered all the basics in one video rather than having to search a million places!
This is honestly one of the most entertaining, actually good tutorials I've seen. Even though it was 13 minutes I didnt get bored or want to do something else. Thank you
Amazing... I didn't know you'd made this, Kyle, so I was just searching RUclips for a decent Audacity starter tutorial to share with my students. I saw the title and thumbnail and thought this looked promising, but I didn't see your name/headshot. Imagine my surprise when I heard YOUR VOICE in my headphones! This is really excellent. Thanks for making the time and effort to put it up!
This is a very well done tutorial. Most tutorials on youtube are ruined by tacky BLASTING loud music in the background. Thank you for focusing on the actual how-to. Well done.
This is sooooo helpful, I’ve watched other videos on this topic and this is the no 1 most helpful vid I’ve watched on this. I’m looking to start a small podcast and I want to find a good place to put voice audio and music together in one place and edit it and it’s easy to do and I don’t have to pay for. Audacity is amazing
Just started my own podcast and really needed this to make sure my sound is good and the music. Thanks for a simple and quick way to play around with Audacity.
Kyle thinking I was smart, thinking how hard can it be. Audacity Kicked my butt. Short and to the point, Love it and thank you, your newest subscriber.
Love this video because I'm used to working in video editors and the basics are so similar. Select, split, move. Three things you're going to be doing constantly when editing just about anything. Bonus for the envelope tool, because linear control of volume in also important. Audacity has auto ducking now for anyone who knows what that is (it makes it easy to narrate something and have the background volume fade when you speak, and come back up when you're quiet).
Thank you for the amazing tutorial! I recently started a podcast, and am switching from Garageband to Audacity. This really helped me out, so thank you!
Thank so much! This was exactly what I needed to watch! I have done video editing but am just getting into audio and had to learn what my 'new' buttons look like... Why they can't all use the same lingo is beyond me! Cheers!
Audacity allows me to use my DigiTech Rp150 processor as an input. As long as it's the last pedal on my chain while recording with it still records the changes of everything else like chorus pedal, wah pedal, distortion, yada, yada. I love it.
You are awesome! Thank you for the step-by-step demonstrations and your talk during the work. I am using Audacity for research recording interviews and observations and your video has truly reduced my anxiety dramatically. It all worked until it got to saving. I couldn't save as an MP3 but when you said you save as Ogg Vorbis Files, I did that and it worked magically.
This is great! The only thing I would add for people using Audacity for the first time is the step about installing the lame file. Audacity 2.2.1 makes it really easy to install the Lame file, but still adding that step to the demo would enhance your video. Even so - I am adding your video to my assignment! My students will appreciate your great tutorial *as is*! THANKS!
After I edit a song, I export it to MP3. Then when I try to exit Audacity, it gives me a box with the message "Save Changes before Exiting?" So I called a priest, he sprinkled some holy water, it didn't work. Then I called a Baptist preacher, he preached Jesus and the message of the Cross, it worked - Changes got saved.
I’ve literally just downloaded the app and I’ve been searching for somebody who can explain everything in simple terms and bravo 👏🏻 you’re killing it brother, I’d be happy to pay to contact you when I have specific questions on how to use the app etc if you’d be interested?
Just started playing around in Audacity last week for the first time. Literally no idea what I am doing, but slowly figuring stuff out. How to split tracks is going to help me tremendously. Also, had no idea what the envelope tool was. Now I dont have to create separate tracks and fade in/fade out each one lol.
Very nicely done Kyle! Bookmarked this for later viewing as some of it was too quickly done & a little bit over my head. Thanks for posting.............
Morning Kyle, just wondering if you can advise on editing with the music side of things. I am trying to locate this information on what happens if you have your voice recording, you add your music, only to realize that it is 60 seconds short at the end. Can you add music to cover the last 60 seconds where it has run out or would you recommend taking the music out of your recording and adding a longer version? Would greatly appreciate your advice. Thankyou
Hi Karen, I really think it depends on what you're making--it's all context-dependent, you know? I'll say that when that happens to me, I'm most likely to try to artificially make my music longer by simply highlighting part of it, copying it, and and pasting it. Of course, doing so without the listener noticing can be tricky--depends on the style of music and where exactly you cut/paste. But it can totally be done, especially if the main thing listeners' attention is on is your voice. Does that help?
Yes thank you the last one didn't teach me how to split and it was making it so much harder so now I'm gonna fix the thing I am doing and make it much better thanks to you!
everyone kees saying it, i'll say it too - thanks so much!! you know how to move at a good tempo and explain things in a way that sticks, using this is 2019 and there's still so much good info! thanks for the content again
Very nice video. Helps fill in some more tips and tricks. There's so many, it's always exciting to find someone teaching me another one (using the envelopes in this instance). Thanks.
that's good, audacity is the most simplest software i have encountered to mix music though it lacks many things. Given the fact that a free one and very user friendly makes it worth it but i was hoping that you would be showing the difference after you add the effect. I learned new thing about envelop tool today, others thing were know to me.
2:35 - Adding Compression
3:53 - Adding audio to a new track. Highlight and delete audio within track.
5:39 - Clip Boundaries-> Split
6:16 - Time Shift Tool to drag audio
7:29 - Envelope Tool (F2) to adjust volume
10:13 - Saving Project vs. Exporting Audio
Hey, thanks!
