Hey, Tolkien wouldn't flip them off. He was one of those guys who never cursed. He used his command of English language to convey his displeasure. 100% straight-laced, devout Catholic.
Ya know what I think would be kind of fun? Absolutely do a movie about the hobbits' experience with Tom Bombadil. A side story. Lowish budget (and I don't mean cheap). Make a "small" story from a "small" incident in LotR, experienced and viewed through the eyes of "small" people. This would be a great choice because it could be (and should be) fun, whimsical, lighthearted and yet still tell us some interesting things about Middle Earth (the appearance in the far West of the Nazgul, the fear gripping The Shire, a desperate and rushed flight from danger, a more-than-slightly-fearful flight into a VERY scary forest, etc.) . It could also highlight the heroism of Fatty Bolger (and the other "conspirators"). Pick it up in Crickhollow and end coming into Bree. I think that could be a great movie. OH, if ONLY someone who loves LotR pulled the reins (the exact opposite of Amazon). They could make gripping, fun, exciting stories set in Middle Earth.

Shameful!!! I started reading Tolkien in the late '60s as a young kid. I read and re-read his books throughout the '70s and periodically right up until the Peter Jackson's movies and thereafter, as well. Frankly, I got treated like crap a bit for mentioning Tolkien back then. And now there's this bastardization. 👎👎👎
The people who used to tease others for liking this sort of thing, are now the writers/directors/actors controlling it.

Tolkien intentionally spent less time on the battles in his story to develop his characters and tell his epic, he didn't want to glorify violence... Yes the battles in the story were epic and Peter Jackson knocked them out of the park in his adaptation. That said:

Sadly, events for mediocre shows like RoP will never have no one show up. You'll always have folks who don't necessarily care for the show, but who want to try and get close or be introduced to the people with influence in the film/TV industry. It's basically a networking opportunity for most of the "fans".
They need to meet DEI requirements so they can up their ESG score to ensure they get operating capital from investment banking firms since they won't be making any money off this hot mess.
