    The mennonites can sing most beautifully. I was once in a church choir, as a child, but left religion behind as it didn’t resonate with everyday life and modern logical reasoning. But the longing is strong and hymns like these make me cry.

    Simple, but beautiful. From the simple small, plain homey church building, to the well dedicated church members and the voices of the church choir and church congregation. That's what worship really should be about. The smaller, simpler, and close knit is what it should be.

    I love RUclips and love this beautiful old song. I have played for church for over 50 years, starting at 14 and I am looking at 71 real soon. I know this one by heart and being in the military I have traveled around the world. I was never without a church to play for either the piano or organ (generally the organ as pianist were more abundant). I read music fine but I also play by ear as well. My grandmother passed her gift, with God's imparting knowledge to me. A huge problem we have today would be the lost of the "old hymns" of yesterday. I will say the church I attend at present has not left them behind. Yes, we do some of the newer songs and many are quite good. They are always laced with hymns from the pass. I also do arrangements and anthems bringing new and old together. I have subscribed and I want to follow.

      @davezimmerman4721 7 лет назад +8

      Basically where they would disagree is.
      1. Baptist believe in eternal security. Where once you are saved you are always saved. Mennonite s believe you can fall away from the faith and turn again to sin.
      2. Non conformity: Mennonites believe in a life style and dress that is not Iike
      the society around them
      3. Nonresistance: Mennonites believe it is wrong to serve in military service but would choose to serve in other ways rather than militarily.

    • @whisperingsage

      Most of the old hymns have two names, a line from the chorus and the first line. I found this confusing when I married an IFB(Independent Fundamental Baptist) Pastor and was responsible for preparing the music. I had come out of Pentacostal churches and they sang very different songs so it took me a long time to learn the old hymns.

    This lack of contemporary is what usually scares young people away from church. These lyrics are as great & truthful as any Christian song / hymn. But they can be put into a more modern style of song. I actually can't believe there are still churches (though do see this was 10 years ago) that still haven't gone contemporary (or not by 2013 @ least) I hope that 10 years later church music at that church was upgraded!

    • @charlesterrizzi8311

      Mennonites are usually a Capella....did you know that phrase means "in the chapel"? I personally prefer the human voice without accompaniment. We use a piano in our church because no one can sing...:)

    • @carolynfuller777
      @carolynfuller777 10 лет назад +2

      but I'm just curious as to whether the Mennonites think that instruments are not glorifying to God? Because I know that the Old Order Amish didn't believe in playing instruments. A Capella is beautiful, though, as the human voice is so endearing!
